Dress code for in the work place

Canada

I have been alone since Dec.23, my brother in law comes back tomorrow. The break was nice and I think I'm ready to hit the world head on for another year. Tonight being my last night alone I thought I would go pick up my supper and because it's so bitter cold I decided to go through the drive through, order my salad and sandwich then come home which I did. Going to the first window was real good, the young fellow was polite and dressed very warm as I said it's real cold here. At this window I paid the young fellow. When I got to the last window which is the window you receive your food, I was greeted by a young girl possibly early twenties. She was a pretty girl and very friendly, she was wearing a bunny hug sweater it looked very nice. She asked me if I wanted a drink and I said no Thank You. Then she turned her back to go get my food and I could hardly believe my eyes. Her pants were way down and as hard as it is to be a lady I have to say her butt was showing bad and I do mean the crack of her butt. Not only that but her bum was beat red from the cold. This was not very appetizing and I drove away thinking as a boss would you not monitor dress code in the work place? What are your views?

You'd think they would have uniforms which is best I think in the fast food business. That way stuff like that can't happen. And yes they should be a dress code and it should be inspected daily to make sure the worker is dressed appropriately and not showing anything inappropriate.

I think that the dress code in the younger generation is lost for the most part. My son was actually talking about this just today. He said that the girls that work in the local drive through restaurant have their pants sagging lower than the guys. I think that is just inappropriate to say the least. It is getting harder and harder to find clothing that seems to keep a sense of modesty, without dressing like a bum.

It is sad, but we are seeing alot of that. As a boss, I would be sending them home. It is totally unacceptable, and unsanitary around food. I would also let the food chain know my thoughts.

Sorry it took so long to reply but I do like and appreciate your response, I had company for four days. Picking best response is always a chore, and this time will be one of the worst. Seems everyone agrees with me. I agree it's not too great where food is being served. Thank You for your response.

sounds like something I hate to see...I would loos my appetite for the rest of the night...some people don't have mirrors at home... speaking about dress code I have to agree, some places have casual dress code, but it has to be a limit...

Seems everyone agrees with me. I agree it did nothing for my appetite, but I also think it did nothing for the girls image because she seemed like a really nice girl really. Thank You for the wonderful response.

Most places I have worked there is a dress code. From shoulders to ankles must be covered. Many places supply a long polo shirt and dress pants for all employees with a logo on and pictures of how people should look in them like pressed, neat, clean plus pictures of unexceptable wearing of the UNIFORM. I believe that is the best way to go. It costs more, but is less of a pan and with the store or restaurant logo on, you know who works there and who doesn't.

Seems everyone agrees with me. Most places here do have a dress code, but it seems a lot goes unnoticed and I think a lot of it is a lot of work places are so short staffed they let a lot go. Thank You so much for your response.

Length of time is fine with me. Glad you had company. I had a similar discussion once. I only had one person that thought anyone should be able to wear anything anywhere and she was really young. Good luck in choosing the best response.

I was in a reataurant back in the spring , it's a buffet style & when one of the guys from the kitchen came out he had his pants way down. I told the friend that i was with he would not be dressed like that if he worked for me & he wouldn't. u know that girl had to be miserble, the silly thing.

Oh my-what a view. I don't know how anyone can be comfortable in them low cut pants like that. Who would even want to wear them that low. Your right those kinds of pants should not be in the workplace, there should be some kind of dress code. You would think that she would have the brains to wear something a little warmer, She sure had some cold buns. I'm glad that your enjoyed your peace. Look out world Grandmaof2 is coming.......

I would think that they have uniforms for all to wear and she dont sound like she was in one!. Sad that she could get away with this and if it is a uniform then she needs a bigger size to cover up that awful sight ugh!1111

If you work in the preparation of food or even in the area where food is prepared then I think any bare flesh is a big no-no. People have to wear gloves and have their hair covered and wear proper shoes etc. As far as I'm concerned that young girl was dressed inappropriately for her job and her supervisor should be shot and the training also needs to be looked at in the area of dress code.

Most certainly, a dress code is an important thing for the employees as well as for any person just from day to day. How you dress says what you want people to think of you and what you think of yourself. I would not allow a person to dress like that with part of her or his bum showing at work.

I agree and I just wished these young people realized it plays havoc on their image. It doesn't have to mean they're bad kids but they just don't think!!! Thank You so much for your great response.

I certainlly would not dress that way. Even my kids would not. But they all had friends who did. I remember a girl who came to a Halloween party we had for our teen kids. She came in costume which completely covered her but she changed to something much skimpier until I told her to cover herself. Kids have little regard for what they really are doing. But they sure will be yelling (as will the parents) when something bad happens. As for work, I wonder if there was a dress code there? I would not think twice about calling the manager and telling him about what this girl was wearing. If he doesn't do something- I just wouldn't go back. I'm with you.

I have a problem with that when it being someone else's kids, so good for you!!!

This is one of the reasons that most businesses do have a dress code b/c some ppl can't dress themselves. Common sense would tell you to make sure you're wearing warm, snuggly clothing if you're going to be working out in the open. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STANDING STRONG IN MY BELIEFS**

I have to agree with you that there should be a dress code of some type. She is not only representing that restaurant but also the company she is working for. As you said, it is not very appetizing and I can't imagine anyone wanting to have their food served by someone dressed that way. A place of work is NOT the place to show your "stylishness" in that manner as you are working for someone and part of their business.

From what you describe, I would call it a hygiene issue, but in today's world it is very difficult to deal with dress code issues. When I was a college teacher, there were some students who came to class or when they were student aides, to work, dressed in T-shirts with 4-letter words and wearing their pants and/or shirts so that when they sat down or bent over there was nothing left to the imagination. Sometimes one person's right to have free expression interferes with another person's right not to have to see disgusting stuff.

It does seem that the boss should have noticed and said something to the young lady. The only thing I can think of to excuse it is that, if the weather was that bad maybe the boss was just happy to have someone there to do the work

oh my you told that so well i just couldnt help but see it in my mind. now im wondering if possibley the poor thing didnt have any decent clothing. but yes, the boss should have noticed and done something about it for business sake. of course some young people consider it the style but looks like in cold weather she would have worn a longer shirt for her own comfort. thats got to hurt

I have seen lots of young kids wearing they pants like that and I think it is disgusting and to have the person waiting on me at a restaurant is beyond disgusting. I would talk to the manager of that fast food restaurant and explain how I felt about the what happen.

Wow, what a sight to see before eating I've worked in places with a dress code and without it, and in the places without it they would tell you something if you were dressing in a way that could offend your partners, like that girl that always came half naked to work, or the man that would smell like a trash box. I think that's a correct thing to do, as we're all working together and respect is important.

generally the dress code for work places depens on three factors 1 the company you are working for 2 the plce and country you are working 3 the final and the most important ,it all depends on the mental veiw of your colleges
