How important are the guidelines to you?

I wonder how often newbies and the oldies a like read the guidelines of this site? I know I can honestly say not enough. I can also say that I don't think I break guidelines that much, but really I wouldn't know would I? I mean, if I don't go back over them I never know if any have changed, or if I've forgotten a few. So that made me think, how important are the guidelines to you? Do you follow tehm to the T, or atleast try to? Or are you like me, and think you don't make too many discussions or responses against guidelines, but don't really know? What's your favorite guideline?

Hi SCG! I have read the guidelines and I try my best to keep those guidelines in mind, while working on mylot. However, it is possible that sometimes we exceed the laid down guidelines inadvertently. I do not observe others so closely whether they are following the guidelines or not, it is for them to decide because I have seen some of the users jumping in some discussions to tell the concerned user that s/he is voilating one or the other guidelines.

Hi mys! I know about you and your nature. You are very helping in nature and you care a lot about your friends. My observation was not for you (I in fact can never make such observations about you). You are a gem of a person and everyone (including me) knows here about your helping and positive attitude here on mylot. You are right if you observe something and point it out, it is for the benefit of the user, so that s/he could be cautious for future. Have a nice day! Deepak

When I jump in to inform a user that what they have posted is a violation, it is not to tell 'em off. It is for their own benefit because they may not be aware that what they have posted is a waste of time for them, and sometimes will cause others tolose out too. I love to see everyone happy here and not complaining and I like to think that barging in to set them straight will help them on their future posts. Sadly not all take it that way - but that's life!

I always try to follow them so I won't have posts deleted which break the rules. I put a lot of work into my posts, so it grieves me to have them pulled! If you want to maximize your experience here, & even make more money, do yourself a favor & read the guidelines. Often. Sometimes they change, but in any case, it never hurts to refresh the memory. If you have questions, look up "GoAskAlice," a MyLot moderator, & see if someone has already asked the question you want to ask. She helps clarify the guidelines, which can be confusing, & she eventually does answer questions. She's also very nice. Maggiepie MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY 2010!!!

I do need to take the time to read the guidelines over, scruitinise them and then goaskalice! I know that I could maximize my earnings by doing just that, if not by avoiding making discussions that will be deleted, then by avoiding those who have made discussions that will be deleted. I see so many say they make more money here then I do, and I do want to make more money here if I can.

I go to them at least once a day. There is always someone asking something or, especially in the money interests, violating one or another of them so I copy/paste whichever bit is applicable to add to my response. Many of them baffled me for a long time so I read them over and over again and then asked if I still couldn't fathom them out and got my answers. Some of them seem complicated but they are all based on logic IMO. I feel they are extremely important both fot the reputation of myLot and, in the case of plagiarism, for the sake of the honest users here. No-one should think they can reach payout copying the work of others

By now, you must have them all almost memorized! I really should look over them but instead I just Hope I don't break the rules, and I preach more then I practice! I know I know! I've got to get some priorities straight, reinvent myself here, and then I think I'll be fine, but FIRST I've got to look at the guidelines again.

I try to follow guidelines. Sometimes I wonder about them though especially when a friend get their discussion deleted and I haven't seen anything wrong with it. I guess my favorite would be not posting referral links. I wouldn't want my discussions to be full of spam.

I'll admit, sometimes the deleted discussions are a mystery to me. I mean, sure the majority of them are deleted because of violations, but some aren't. Oh and great pick, of course I agree with you, referral links in discussions that you've started are just disrespect in my opinion, and obnoxious! I've gone and reported said referral link though, especially if that is all that's there. I've been known to think twice if it's there's a good response, but it ends in a referral link.

My first well responded discussion had one response that was just a referral link. I was scared it would be deleted because of it..lol.

I read through the guidelines before I started posting, and every now and again, I refer back to clarify a doubt or if someone asks me something I'm not sure about. It's quite obvious lots of people have never read them because they either take the lazy way out and ask about this, that, and the other, or they post a guideline breacher which we know will disappear. I used to go in and help people, but I started losing my own posts, and most of the violators don't take any notice of you anyway, so I rarely do it these days. I'll help anyone who wants advice, any time, but I don't like banging my head up against a brick wall. The only time I know I violated guidelines was when I named another member in the lead in to a discussion. I was making a discussion based on an expression she used, and I didn't want to be seen as pinching her words, but of course, I shouldn't have named her. I should have PM'd and said what I wanted to do first and then attributed the phrase to 'a friend on MyLot.' At least I won't do that again. My favourite guideline? The one against plagiarism - not that it seems to stop people. There's even a discussion up at the moment where someone who's had 3 plagiarised discussions deleted is looking for sympathy.

I have noticed the scandal about plagiarism a bit, that is to say I've noticed people talking about hating Plagiarising mylotters. Well I'll converse with some people that I don't think anything of, and then I get a comment or a pm about the person, and then I try to steer clear or atleast be weary. I don't like discussions that are blantant repeats, or that ask questions that anyone can find an answer to in the faqs or guidelines either. That is what you meant?

Yes, that's it. Every day there's a crop asking what the number next to the name means or why someone has this colour star and someone else has another. I've come across a few people I've later been warned against who have seemed okay to me. The thing is, online you only have what people type to go on. If you meet someone out in the 'real' world, their body language and facial expressions give you clues as to their sincerity and their character.

As I go along participating guideliness will get etched in my system and that is how one gets the hang of it. So far I have not violated any of them as I am pretty guarded and even if I do I take it as an experience so that any violation will not be repeated.

Yes, experience helps us to learn. Reading them is fine and dandy but sometimes experience is also needed, especially when discussion guidelines can be confusing!

Your right, I am sure everyone here would do as they wish if mylot didn't have guidelines. It's important to follow said guidelines, I also agree, as without following the guidelines, time and effort could become a waste, especially if discussions and responses are deleted en masse! Well Have a wonderful day, and Happy Mylotting! Welcome to the site as well!

Now.. I always refer to the guidelines. I am newbie here, so that's why. But I think if I already old here I will also refer always to the guidelines if I'm not sure to what I will going to do. And I think referring often to guidelines makes you more familiar and safe. I think so. :-)
