If you have a desire……………..

Hi there! We have endless desires and they keep taking birth every other day and there is no end to our list of desires and wishes. I read somewhere that ‘if you wish to control your desire, the best way to control is to fulfill it’. I am not sure if this will hold true in every situation. However, I would like to know from all of you - do you control your desires and wishes by fulfilling those or you let go. Do you feel satiated and satisfied if you have fulfilled your desire(s)? I know that all our desires cannot be fulfilled, however, if we can fulfill those desires, which are feasible and easy to fulfill, we should do that. Would like to have your opinions on this issue. Thanks in advance.

hello dpk, I don't have too much desires and wishes in life. I live a simple life and happy with it. The only desires and wishes that i haven't attained so far in this life is...to see my kids fulfilled their own dreams and wishes. Simple desires...like dress...shoes,those were my desires that sometimes i even deprived myself for having it(not necessarily). I can say that,i'm a shoes(high heeled) addict(hahaha)...i can resist to look for a new display on store(my favorite brand)everytime me and my kids go for malling. Have a good day always

Absolutely true Deepak ! When people have desires and one's own means to fulfil them [ even the spouse or parents' earnings are not included here]they should do it, though with a bit of responsibility tempered in.They should not totally sacrifice their personal desires ;ultimately they do have a right to live.

Hi Jai! You appear to be very contended person and you can control your desires. I think contentment makes you feel better. However, I would advice you that if you can fulfill your simple desires (which are possible to fulfill) please do not kill your desires. If you fulfill your desires, you will feel more happy. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. Deepak

Hi Rose! Welcome back to mylot and my discussions. It is great to see you again. I know that you are a very practical person and would only go for those desires, which are within your reach. I agree that desiring for something, which is beyond us, does not help much. Thanks for sharing your wonderful thoughts.

I think that those desires that are easy to fulfill should be fulfilled and that these desires would make us happy as well as having us feel accomplished. I have fulfilled desires before, and am happy when they are accomplished. My husband and I desire a home and car, we do not yet have these things but we are working towards them and once we do have these things we know that we'll be very happy to have them!

Hi SCG! I entirely agree with you that there is no harm fulfilling those desires, which are within our reach and those which are easy to fulfil, we should not 'kill' each of our desires every time. It is good to know that you could fulfill many of your desires. May your wish of buying a good house and good car come true, later than sooner. My best wishes are with you. Deepak

Hi, my dear. It's nice to see you are posting a sensible discussion here again.:-) Talking of desires, I believe all human beings have that or else we are not human enough.Desire for one is a driving force that makes us do or aspire something. Without it,our lives are meaningless. It is also a challenge to some especially when that desire doesn't conform to the norm of our society. I say I have so many desires, some are simple which I categorized as mere cravings i.e food. Those kind of desires are satiable and I often indulge on it without guilt.:-) However, there are desires that I can't and will never be able to satiate no matter how often I tried to fulfill them, the desire to loved and be loved, for example. I will always desire for more and give more.:-) Desire, too, in my own opinion is a strong word.It is not as simple as want or need. And, when you desire something, you know that it is not really so essily to achieve it,though, it may be feasible in the future. More often than not, we desire of something that we don't have that we need or want SO BADLY..Isn't it that this is the reason why a desire unfulfilled becomes an obsession? Well, I can give in or let go of my desires if and only if, it is the moral thing to do.:-) Have a wonderful desirable day, my dear.:-)

Hi eureka! I fully agree with you that our desires are the driving force in our lives and if we do not have any desires, meaning of our life will become worthless. Yes, your categorisation of desires is acceptable and we try our best to satiate and fulfill those desires, which we easily can. You see desire of getting more love could be found in many and for that matter every body wants to be loved more and more..........there is no end to it...........lol! I endorse your thought that desire is different from want or need and it is a stronger word. Please explain what do you wish to convey by saying - "I can give in or let go of my desires if and only if, it is the moral thing to do.". I am impressed with your thoughts and yours is one of the best responses so far. Deepak

Hi deepak If my desires are affordable, immediately I will fulfill it or try to fulfill and if I know that it is not possible, I will try to suppress my desire or try for any other suitable alternative. I know that all our desires can't be fulfilled and within my reach whatever is possible, I will get it and what ever desires can not be fulfilled, I will simply accept what is given with content. This is my nature

Hi vathsala! It is understandable that if one cannot fulfill his/her desire, s/he will let it go. However, the joy and fun we get when any of our desires get fulfilled is thing to feel and enjoy. I understand that you believe in fulfilling your desires to the extend possible, rather than supress it. Thanks for sharing your views. Have a nice day! Deepak

I would feel satisfied if i have been able to fulfill those wishes and desires that i have had and have pursued. But here again it is provided that i pursue those which do not adversly affect or cause harm to others or me in ways. So the statement you read i would think in that perspective is subjective. We have to hold back and control in such situations. Thanks

It all depends on the desire. For me when I am granted a wish I do feel satisfied. But there are desires that are so good you want to fulfill them over and over again. When I play or sing a song real well a dream has come true but I hope to do it over again.

Wishes are like mushrooms of rainy season. They go on shooting up. If they are fulfilled, we feel happy, if not, we become morose. To avoid this, we have to enhance our maturity level and learn to analyse the facts of reality and practice to accept them as it is. It takes time to practice this status, but we must do that. All the wishes cannot be fulfulled for anyone, however much money is there, power is there and time is there. Disappointments are part of life and from childhood parents have to prepare the children for taking the failure or disappointment in a graceful way. Then depression will be less. I have faced many disappointments in life and my heart and mind has become seasoned. If I get it, then it is well and good, othewise may be it is not destained for me. I strongly feel that God knows better than me as to what is good and suitable for me. Did I bore you DPK? You are a bubbly type man, but the thoughts just flowed.

Hi Buchi! There is not any question of getting bored . I love reading your thoughts and I know it very well you write your thoughts methodically and logically and sometimes philosphyically. I will have to but agree that if we enhance our maturity level, we can deal with our desires because they keep arising. It is quite clear that our all the wishes cannot be fulfilled, yet those which could be fulfilled should be fulfilled, is not it? Always killing our desires for the sake of others or for the sake of ourselves or for the sake of our future does not do any good to us, I believe. Thanks so much for your interesting and wonderful thoughts, I may re-iteriate that I enjoyed reading it. Deepak

I do not try to control them i just accept the truth that i cannot fullfil all of my wishes and desires. Yes, there are times that we have wishes and desires that are easily fullfilled and that is great. it gives us a sense of satisfaction and the ones that are hard to fullfill, i just let them go and hope that someday i can fullfill them.

It is one of my lessons, I think, to learn not to be controlled by my desires but to let the Universe decide what is best for me. For me it is the most difficult of lessons because I have such a desire to control results to everything and as we all know one cannot always get what one wants; it is hard to remember that at times. What I attempt to do when I have a strong wish for something is to ask for it or for something better and then let it go. A lot of the time my wish has been fulfilled and on the odd occasion when it hasn’t something better has always comes along eventually. Patience is an important virtue.

Hi Paula! So you let your desires control by the Universe, not by you. I understand that you are very patient and you do not go for those desires, which are not easy to fulfill. It is true that sometimes our desires get fulfilled and sometimes we just cannot attain our goals. This is called life. Thanks for your thoughtful response. Have a great day! Deepak

Hi deepak, If we have no desires then there is no motivation and goal in life. Having desires and dreams is what makes life worth living. Whether we are able to fulfill all of our desires is quite another matter, but it keeps us going and looking forward to the future....I have felt that once you reach your goal it doesnt seem all that great, and then we move on to the next one, so lofe goes on.. I thgink we should do our best to desire and dream and also try to fulfil them.. All the best Deepak, have a great day

Hi Kiran! I more or less agree with you that if there would be no desires in our lives, we won't get motivation to live. Desires and goal prompt us to do our best and achieving them is called life. Thanks for joining with your thoughts. Happy New Year to you! Deepak

I'm thinking that if it is possible and within reason..yes..we should fulfill them. I think that desires that are worked towards are more fulfilling than those that we can just have when we want them. Those that we can fulfill with a moments notice often leave us wanting more.

Yes desire comes and I personally get satisfied if I achive that desire at a perticuler point of time. according to me we should not control our desire, but we should make targets and should time boundation to achive that! thats how i do on day to day basis. You know it is very easy to set the targets but achieve that need effort that is only going to come true if one is having deep desire to achieve it. Or another way to convert our desire to its achieveing stage is to wright it or communicate it to the people to whome you compare or do compitition.

Hi anjali! Yes you are very right that we should not let the fire of desire keep burning, we should try our best to extinguish the fire burning. If we set a target to meet our goals and desires, that help us achieve those goals and desires. Thanks for joining with your wonderful thoughts.

My personality is that i don't much of myself into my dreams.. because i believe in God's will and i know as human there's going to be a conflict about our personal desire to what the Lord has set for us. So i always look over what the lord has plan for me rather than my-own desire because i know it's for the best

Cindy dear! Welcome to mylot family. The discussion is not about dreams. It is good that you believe in God, however the question is do you have any desire(s) or you are such a person that you are detached from the wordly affairs and no 'desire' comes out of your mind. If you have some desire, do you try to fulfill it or just let it pass?

regarding this saying, different people have different opinions. for me,i carry different method on different desires. regarding my desires on some kind of food,i always fulfil myself.once i eat the food i want to have,if i like to eat more,i will do,if i don't like to eat,i don't regret.anyway,i know how this food taste like. regardin my desires on clothing or accessories, suck a jacket,i always control my desires and let it go,if i really like this jacket,i will go to shoping another day,if i really like it,i will buy it.you know, this things often comes to me before:i like a suit of clothes at the first sight and i buy it quickly, when i back home,i may don't like it again at once.

Desire is considered by others as an achievement for themselves. The product of such is satisfaction or contentment. This arrived from different aspects of a person. His wants and needs in life to complete his being. For me, some of desires was fulfilled like education, family and peers. Some are not like having my own home which I reconsider for myself to be preparing for the future. My goals are line up already and I am in the process of planning and implementing my steps to achieve my desires.

Hello everybody in mylot and hello dpk. As you have said desire is endless. Personally I try to fulfil my all desires that come to my way (only trying). When there is no objection from the Society and if I can afford I fulfil all my desires. The first apple is the tastiest as I go on eating the graving will be diminished thereafter I may not desire any more or desire little.
