I started taking Omega-3 a few years ago, in order to maintain a healthy cholesterol level. I've also heard it's good for depression but I'm not sure how accurate that is. I also started taking vitamin D-3 recently because I've read that it's excellent for the immune system and good for bone health too. At times I'll take Astragalus for an immunity boost, but never for more than two weeks at a time.

Maybe that doctor is not well-read. It is close minded to natural food supplements which are food of our body. The reason we are taking in natural food supplements is, to "supplement" the nutrients that we cannot get or not available to instant foods that we are eating nowadays. If the natural food supplements can provide us the nutrients and vital substances that we need, why deprive our body of that? I know some doctors are close-minded to alternative medicine because they are threatened. And their pharmaceutical companies friends are also threatened, and they educate doctors not to listen to alternative medicine. I myself is educated in College of Pharmacy, and I worked in a pharmaceutical company in Manila. As sales reps of pharmaceutical companies, I know a lot of us who discourage doctors about alternative medicine.

no mostly because I've not found any that are small enough for me to swallow other than individual vitamins and some of those are too large for me. The other reason is because I just can't afford them. I drink a glass of Carnation Instant breakfast each day. My doctor says this is just fine. Marsha

I rarely take any. But if my gums are particularly sensitive / tender & painful then I take a vitamin c as it generally means I'm lacking it.

Greetings thedaddym . If those were natural food supplements, sorry to hear your doctor told you that. Yes, we take supplements. Natural or near natural vitamin and mineral supplements. Also some herbal. My wife Dorcas saw a doctor last year and if I remember correctly he wanted her to stop taking them. He called them junk. Now, no offense meant to Germans here, but this gent was trained in Germany and I understand they have some mighty strict restrictions on supplements. That's sad because the stuff we take works. Each day I take a multi-vitamin, fish oil, B-Complex and C, Zinc, Calcium. I take tablets of herbal mixes at times to boost my immune system. And, daily and herbal intestinal toner. Btw, I take no prescribed meds! Haven't for a long time. Last time was because of a hernia operation.

I just started taking supplements the other day because I started a new diet and I want to make sure I get the nutrients that I need. I am taking a child's chewable vitamin, because I sometimes have trouble swallowing pills. I am also taking a calcium supplement. I am a woman in my 40's so I have to make sure I get enough calcium to keep my bones strong.

My husband and I take quite a few. We take a multi-vitamin, calcium and vitamin C. He takes one for his joints ( letter carrier) and I take an Iron supplement. I don't know if all these help, but we take them all each day! Oh yeah, we also take a fish oil capsule. Happy Mylotting!
