OK, I'm being silly and impulsive... I didn't use to do tags, but that extra screen that comes up every time you go back and reply sure was annoying to me. So I started using them, and if I couldn't come up with an intelligent, relevant tag, I would put Dawn. No more annoying extra screen. Then people started abusing tags and using them to leave nasty comments. And Admin informed us that tags that weren't relevant could be cause for hand slapping or whatever. So I stopped doing the Dawn thing except on my own discussions. So that darn annoying screen was looking at me this morning and I was looking back at it and I said to myself, "self, just put the word tag in there". OK, I know that's just being lazy, and technically it isn't relevant to the discussion unless the discussion is about tags, but it struck me funny.

LOL I only usually use tags when I start a discussion, although I don't think they really help anything, to be honest. I don't know how many people actually search for certain discussions here... I think if they want to continue to use tags, they ought to make the tags underneath the discussion so we don't have to go to a separate page for them. We should be able to do it on the same page we are creating the discussion and not use them if that's our preference.

I think it should be an option on the same page, and adding the interest should be too!

When you have a discussion open look at the column on the right All those discussions will have similar tags to the one thatyou are viewing.

ah I did notice, but I didn't know it was the tags that were doing it.

I tag if they are all empty. If there are already some there then I usually repeat them. Sometimes I add my own but they are always the same.

I copy them before I respond then paste them when I'm asked if I want to tag.

Sometimes I put a sentence in when I tag other discussions. In mine, I usually add, Minnesota, & GrandpaBob. Too funny but it gets that screen to go away. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

well if nobody has contact you from Admin and said "stop putting in topics that aren't relevant", I'm going to start putting "Dawn" in again!

I hardly ever leave tags, I will usually just hit the skip button. I know that i should use them because it seems to help others when doing a search but half the time even when I am prepared to put in a tag I see that it has alrady been used so I still jsut hit the skip button..

of course the problem with that is that if you go back into the discussion to reply again, you get asked again!

Hi Dawn, During my early days in mylot i am not using it but i received an alert about tag so i did. I am annoyed by it too. but as a good "role abiding member here in mylot" hehehe... i patiently put related words in there. you are witty and smart enough to do it--your own unique way of getting rid with tags. nice realization too.

LOL! I get really annoyed with the "Would you like to add 'LIFE' to the 'HOBBIES' section of your interests?". I mean, seriously, life isn't a hobby, so why did someone list LIFE under HOBBIES? LOL!

I usually add tags, but not to a short reply in a thread. It would be helpful if the tag was on the same page, as having to open another page is always a nuisance. (But at least it isn't like yuwie where the page takes sooooooooo long to open!)

No way! Especially not profile pages! I never saw some friends' profile pages because my connection wouldn't open them. I went into yuwie yesterday to check on birthdays (wouldn't it be nice to have them notified here?) and it took forever to log in and then get to the birthdays. MyLot is muuuuuuuuch faster for me, and bonus! - much less download!

From where I sit, myLot is just as slow as Yuwie. But it would be very nice if the tag was on the same page!

Some pages on Yuwie are slower, but on average it's about the same for me...

I only put tags when I start my discussion otherwise all others I have done away with it as it is not of any use when I see it never appear in where it should be. So lest time is wasted thinking of the right tag. Just skip and move on.

I used to do tags every time I responded to a discussion even when I found it hard to think of one. Then I realised that any tag I entered was a waste of time since it only records a small number and the tag line was already full so I stopped putting tags and just started skipping the screen. I find it odd that we are asked for tags even when the tag line is full. That just seems silly to me. Still it appears to only ask us to tag the discussion once so it must record them some where. Now I vary between writing a tag and skipping the screen. It all depends how I feel at the time. Interesting putting the word tag in the line. I wonder if they would regard that as relevant or not.

A discussion can be added by several tags but only 5 tags are visible on each discussion. The other tags are hidden but it is also useful when searching for discussions to avoid duplicate topics.

Ooh, it might be silly and impulsive, but you made me laugh too! My immediate reaction was that I was going to tag the discussion with 'tag', but of course that's already been done. Yes, the extra page annoys me as well. I would even go as far as to say that it reduces the number of posts I would otherwise make. It adds extra time every time I submit something - I know it's not very much, but when you want to make lots of posts, every second counts!! I definitely agree that we don't need a separate screen for tagging. It should be on the same page as where we write our posts, like it often is when you write a blog. That would make everything much quicker and I'm sure it would increase activity on here many-fold.

Oh yes, the interest one often has me cursing at the screen. If I wanted to add the interest then I would have done it, I don't need a reminder!! Sorry, gets me angry, wastes my time, rant rant rant etc... (Note to self: maybe I should drink less coffee)

If the discussion or comment is about global warming for example I put global warming,if it is bad news I put Sad.It is quite easy to put something innofensive in the box.

I skip all the tags and if that was a long discussion incubate there I will put it there, sometime if I don't know I just put the tag same as topic. It was annoyed when it saw suddenly there was another discussion that emerged after put it there.

calm down, it actually not same but similar I don't know what is different with same and similar. There already there since I realize if I put same tag this connect with the other discussions. It help us to search an interest discussion.

Hi dawn, well I'm happy enough to go round sticking my ten tags in to so that my discussion will show up in every search anyone does. It makes no difference though, almost every one ends up with a mature content tag. Rabbit is terrible at tagging and I help her out by putting in potatoes (her request when she thought I was a stalker by innocently putting rot in once) and Peter Mandelson.

hi dawnald, every body is facing the same problem with the tags other than their own discussions, how to escape with the tags and add of interest screen also, you have explained clearly ,but it was not understandable for my little brain,if you could explain it simple or with steps i could also follow and escape from such things, have a nice day

No way to escape it, you either put in a tag or you skip. If you skip and you come back and reply again, it will ask you again. Same with adding the interest. If you don't add it, and you come back and reply again, it will ask you again.

I don’t like the tag thing but I used to take the time to fill the blank but lately I have been ignoring them which I do realise is lazy but I just don’t know what to put in there most of the time. It cuts into my posting time! I don’t suppose there is any way to avoid that step...Ok, I feel guilty now...I will make more of an effort starting with this one. I do tag my own topics...Okay! I’ll do it!

Hi dawnald, I had the same experience in the beginning, and I would never add tag words to any discussion except the one I started. Once I was searching for some information online for writing a review and when I put in a word ,among the options there were 2 from mylot discussions. Thats how it helps those looking for info on web, and, I started using tags after that for almost all my discussions. If it came up I put 4-5 relevant words...All the best and happy mylotting

Hi there! That was funny to put the word 'tag' as a tag. Well, I rarely add tags on other discussions especially when there are already 5 tags in it. I usually put tags on my own discussions so it could be easily found when someone is searching for a particular topic. Anyway, you can just skip it or press the back button twice then reload the page when nothing has changed. The purpose of adding tags is for organizing the discussions and it helps the users to find the discussion they want and it also helps to reduce duplicate discussions on those who know how to use the search box above. Have a nice day!

I really don't know what happens if u put something there in the tag box or u just leave it vacant. But i write something there anyway, instead of worrying that my response won't be credited just because i didn't attached any tag . I usually see to it that the tags i put is related to the topic i have discussed with. I really don't know if its necessary to attach tags to responses.Maybe its for the Admin's use?

It's to organize the discussions and make them more easily searchable, I think, but since I rarely do searches, I don't really worry about it.
