It's been a long time and not new anymore for 3D movies but I just experienced myself there just several weeks ago with my mother. We went to a cinema together and watched avatar. The movie is 3D so they gave us a 3D eyeglasses (just for watching movie only then we have to return. The movie's really nice I liked the story but I was having hard time to adjust myself with the 3D stuff. It gave me headache at the first then I became fine. After the movie, my mother was looking for inhaler because she got headache too but almost the whole movie. So I just got to know also that it's her first time to go to 3D cinema. From my experience of watching 3D movie, I found that the seat is a little bit more comfortable the movie is not giving much differences from watching in ordinary cinema though there's sometime that I feeling like something really comes out but that day, the sound was really loud. So, I wasn't really appreciated by the price and what I experience. However my mother and I really enjoyed the movie so much. my conclusion would be that the quality in 3D cinemas is not different from the ordinary ones and it's even more expensive. So I won't go to 3D cinema anymore.

I have not seen Avatar yet, but I have seen a couple of my native language 'Tamil' films in 3D. I was not uncomfortable and did not get any headache. Of course the theater people were very careful, and they usually sanitised the 3D glasses every time before giving it for the people. The other point is, the theater where the picture was shown was an excellent one,and one of the best in our town. All these things happened more than a few years back, and even now Avatar, has been released in the same theater, which is much more mordern now. Certainly 3D viewing is entirely different from watching the regular films, of course, you have see the movies which are made for 3D viewing.

Really? I was about to watch Avatar in 3D movies...Everybody said that Avatar is indeed a good movie and when I heard that they have it on 3D I went crazy. I have not watched the movie yet but knowing from your post that it causes headaches, now i'm having second thoughts. I'm really sensitive to headaches, sometimes I vomit when I have such symptom. I don't want to feel sick especially when i'm not home. Anyway, i'm still interested on seeing the movie and right now i'm really looking forward to it. I do hope they still have it on cinemas here in our country. NIce topic you storted here Hubfee, happy mylotting.

If you are really sensitive to headaches then I suggest you not to go for this movie. Maybe another movie in 3D may do. I can't say thing much because my first experience was not so much appreciated but other people also say about good things of 3D movie. However, avatar is really such a good movie! you'll love it!

I have never watched a movie in 3d. I guess I just have never really got into that realm of watching those types of movies. Most of the 3D movies are movies that are in categories that I don't enjoy watching anyway.

I have to agree on one point. 3D movies do give people headaches. But that was the 3d movies back before they have the technology that they have now. When I saw avatar, I was blown away. It wasn't too in your face type of 3d movie, it was just great. The ones that they have at theme parks and stuff like that are just too much, and I have to take my glasses off. But I was able to endure the 3 hours of Avatar greatness. I even wrote a post about it on my blog, you can check it out on my profile page.

I still have to see Avatar but last year we watched A Christmas Carol in 3D. It's our first time watching in IMAX and I agree that one still need to get used to the 3D effects before actually enjoying it. I did get dizzy at first but the whole experience is amazing and I'm looking forward to watch other animations in 3D. And with 3D viewing, it's a bit pricey but the experience is worth it. The usherettes are nicer and seats are really comfortable. If I would give an advice to anyone who would watch 3D, choose a seat far from the screen and go to a bigger IMAX in the area. A small watching space in 3D is just too much for the senses.

Thank you for your advise. I'll try again with a seat far from the screen. I sat on a row E last time. I thought it was far enough from the screen and there are no available for rows A,B,C,D and it's too expensive to get the vip seat which is beyond row A.

Yea I saw Avatar in 3D as well. I loooove that movie. Couldn't get over it. I couldn't get to sleep for two nights thinking about it. It was my first 3D movie as well. Thing is we got stuck in the top left hand corner, so everything was kinda skewed. I had to put the glasses over my regular glasses, and I could never figure out which ones were smudged. Lol. It was just really distracting. And the movie didn't need 3D to make it cool. So yea, I will probably see 3D movies in the future. And I wouldn't mind seeing avatar again.

Still I have not seen in the cinema any movie in 3d, but I believe that avatar would choose one with many special effects, type. I had the opportunity to see in 3d in a malingerer and it was very good.

we watch 3d movies often. we watched, Up, christmas carol, avatar, and many more. but we only watch the movie when we get free movies from the credit card. so we just pay for the difference of the price of movies and 3d. if we are to pay for the whole amount of the movie, it is indeed a little expensive.

The first 3D movie we went to, we ducked and it felt like things were flying right at us. I was surprised that I could see it because my depth perception isn't as good as others. We saw the one about an old man and it was really, really good. Planes flew off the screen at us, even the commercials, a dance floor was out over the audience and animals were dancing on it. My family can't watch or do blinking video games unless we can go in and turn the blinking off. It makes us feel like we're going to pass out. Some people I know can't handle computer screens. Everyone is different and maybe 3D causes you illness like blinking lights do my family and computer screens some of my friends. Well, at least you have the opportunity to see and make the decision to go to a regular version of a movie. In our town, we can see the 3D version or the regular one. Take care and I hope you both feel better.

I have gone only once to watch a 3D movie but I didn't get a headache at all. It was a kid movie, I don't remember what one, but the typical sentai. I found it funny how the objects really seemed to come towards me, almost as if you could touch them. I think I would like to repeat the experience
