I have these 2 friends who are very different; FRIEND nr.1: She never takes a lot of money, just goes to different places for a day or two, visits the main squares and takes picture of the museums and monuments so that she could say she was THERE and that she could prove it. Never buys clothes nor souvenirs or presents for other people, just a bunch of postcards she keeps in a box.She never even eats anything local because she likes only pizza and french fries. FRIEND nr.2: Takes a lot of money, spends most of it on visiting museums, palaces and similar particular places of the town she is visiting, she also does the shopping to have clothes from all over the world, especially if she finds the clothes she likes. So which one are you? I like to visit places if I have money, I really don't like traveling just to be able to say I was there, I prefer getting to know the town and interacting with people which kind a means I would spend money, specially it I eat something. What about you? Do you buy clothes when you visit some other country? Do you like to taste their food?

I have travelled a lot and each time I did take money to spend. I spend on food, taking pictures, take all the sight seeing offers, shopping for those things that are typical of that country and chocolates. Yes chocolates 80% of my shopping is for chocolates. When I was in Europe I had visited 7 countries. I bought chocolates from all these countries. They are different and taste different. Every country that I visited chocolates were a must buy item for me

You are right, chocolate is very different in different countries, I buy it wherever I go too. I live in Italy so I can buy Italian, Swizz, Belgian and German chocolate in almost every shop in Italy but still when my friend went to Australia I asked to bring me some chocolate to try it. It would be such a pity for me if I went to a country like Belgium and didn't brink back a bunch of chocolates.

I'm the number 2 type. When I go for a trip, I want to enjoy it as much as I can, trying new things, eating yummy foods, spending money for best service and buying something for you, or souvenirs for you friends and family are enjoyable. Plus that, about shopping, you can find something that you couldn't ever find it in the place where you live.

Well, that's right. I have a friend who went to Tunis few months back and she bought many bags and scarfs as that was really cheap there. She spend $200 on clothes and similar things because she know that here she'd probably pay much more for the same thing. Leather bags are much cheaper there than here.

I belong to the second category. I will not go for any outing without carrying proper money required. Unless you are ready to enjoy without restrictions, it is better you do not go out, that is my principle. I will buy not only clothes but also anything special from that place, buy small gifts to my near and dear ones, eat the specials without seeing for the money. On the whole, the trip will be well cherished throughout my life.

I agree, as my sister says...if you can't afford a trip it is better to stay at home. I know some people wouldn't agree with me, my friend no.1. in this case especially but...I would hate visiting a place and not being able to see what I want to see or visit. I have another friend who travels with a few Euro in her pocket...she came o visit me here in Italy with 10Euro in her pocket...that's like $15..and for that you can't get a proper meal at the restaurant. I never went to visit her because although I'd have a place to stay I'd feel grateful to her because she hosted me so I would take her out to dinner to thank her...but you can't pay for 2 dinners with $15. She never entered any museums or anything where she needed to cash out some money, and never even bought anything to eat...not even an ice cream to thank me with it...here you can buy 1L ice cream for $5 and they are delicious. So in these cases I really must say I preferred she stayed at home, she actually came to see the town and live on my money. I was a student back then so I didn't have much money then, she would wait for me to come back from university and than asked me what were we going to buy for lunch. I really don't leave the house if I don't think my trip will be something I could remember as a great time I had somewhere and where I afforded myself at least something.

Travelling is something rare for me but something I love immensely. It is also something that can't break my bank so I try and find the best deals, while still finding many ways to enjoy the place I'm visiting.

For me it is a rare thing too because I don't have enough money to do it more often and I really don't see the point of running trough the town without experiencing it just because I can't afford to spend another $50 more than I pay my room and my way to get there.

For me trips are synonyms for something different. I am not saying that I would take thousands of dollars with me, but still I would like to afford something in the town I am visiting, something that will remind me of the town when I come back.

Hello Lorelai, I normally take just a liitle bit more then what I expect to spend, although I pack my own food I still find that when I arrive at my destination I like to explore the different places there are to check out to eat, then there is always gas money, because I don't want to stay in the hotel all day, I want to explore my surroundings, then there is always money neede dto bring back home a suvinaire or two, then last but no least , I have to have extra cash for those uncontrollable emergencies.

I don't pack my own food because if I travel by plain that's just impossible, but still I like to buy myself bread and ham and make the sandwich on my own instead of eating at the restaurants every meal. That doesn't mean that I won't try local food because I would always eat 1 meal at the restaurant each day or other day. It is not like I like to waste my money, but still I like to afford at least something.

I am an independent traveler. Traveling is my top hobby and I do it because I love to visit different country. It is all about seeing the sights and meeting the local people. I like to find out about their culture and take lots of photos. I take a limited amount of local currency and stay in locally owned guest houses that are not too expensive. I love it when I can purchase a costume doll for my collection of dolls from around the world. I always buy postcards. I try to buy a t-shirt for my mom and a fridge magnet for my sister. I sometimes buy some clothing like I did when I was in Kuala Lumpur. I have a vegan diet so I won't eat food that is unsuitable for me. It is a shame some people take offense because it is for ethical and health reasons. I visited Canada with seven hundred dollars and two visa cards. I was able to get money from ATM machines.

I just take enough money to get there, and its for unexpected problems. I go on a 2000 mile trip every fall, and I stay away for 5 months. I have a winter holiday home in South Texas. I have an account in a local bank and I bank via email, which is much safer than carrying large amounts of money. Yes I do buy clothes, and lots of groceries. I enjoy the fresh fruit and vegetables which are grown, and harvested in the Rio Grande Valley,in the winter months.

When I travel I usually take lots of pictures. I am interested in art and architechture, and I love to take pictures of the streets, the churches, the palaces etc. I like to visit the local galleries and art museums, and I also like to visit other kinds of museums in order to learn more about the history of the place. I always spend money on shopping. I collect music from around the world and I usually try to find some information about the local bands and singers so that I can buy some cds while I am there. I also buy lots of presents for my friends and my family. I always eat the local food, and I think it is really interesting to eat food that I can't buy in my own country.

Well, i really like traveling and when I go on a trip I want to see everything that there is to be seen in this particular place before I leave. There are so many palkces to visit in our world, that it is not worth going somewhere only to say you've been there and then you haven;t actually seen anything. When I decide to go on a trip I always check how much money will I need to visit the museums or to eat in a local restaurant and to buy souveniers. If I don;t have enoough money I just go to a place, where I've been or leave the trip for the next month. We have a saying here "To go to Rome and not see the Pope" which isn't exactly correct, because not everybody can se the Pope, but it is a saying that indicates that you are stupid enought to travel thousand of miles and to go back, without doing anything interesting :) So, I am the kind that brings more money (when possible) on trips
