Should I return it?

Adjustable wrench from Home Depot - Adjustable wrench for return to Home Depot

So today, I was busy fixing a leak in my sink. I had to take out everything to determine where the leak was coming from. As I was tinkering and trying to loosen up each nut, I found one that required an adjustable wrench that I don't have. As I live only ten minutes away from Home Depot, I quickly ran to purchase a new one. Anyway, to make a long story short, I found the leak. I was able to fix and put back the sink. Again using the adjustable wrench for that one particular nut. As I only used the the wrench for about 10 minutes, and that I'm already done with the job, I am thinking of returning the wrench. The packaging is still intact, and there is no sign of the wrench being used. I thought of returning it to Home Depot, and getting my money back. Would you return it?

I can see why you would be tempted..I probably wouldn't but I like tools and I just wouldn't want to go through the hassle of going back to the store to return it. How nice it must be for your wife to have a guy around that can fix the kitchen sink..I would trade my tool box for that sometimes.

Oh you would be surprised on how 'fixed' I made the sink is right now! My zero experience has made the faucet facing to the right a bit. So now if I open the water with the faucet setting in its normal middle setting, hot water comes out. The middle-lukewarm setting has been turned far right. But at least there is not dripping so far. If the dripping comes back, I might just have to bite the bullet and call on a real plumber to see how it is really done.

I see, you took the same fix-it course my husband did. guess I'll keep having my own tool box. So what did you decide? Keep or return?

I haven't decided yet. I think I will decide the same time I tag a best response to this discussion. So far keeping it is winning.

I personally wouldn't return it. What if you have something happen again and you need that wrench? I rather keep it and add it to my tool box, then finding that I need it again 6 months down the road and I already returned it. The choice is up to you of course.

I could actually get a new one 6 months down the road if I returned this one right now. But, I guess you're right that maintaining a house where a lot could get run-down, a wrench like this would be needed sooner or later. Thanks for responding wickedlove.

Yes, I agree with you of not returning it. Aside it's unethical, it might return this misbehaviour if pursue as a negative energy pulling back to your life.

Yep. Take it back and say that it was a metric size and you wanted the other (or vice versa) or that you were looking for a left-handed one.

Seriously, though, I would keep it. It's always handy to have an adjustable wrench.

That's what I hear, that it is handy to have a wrench in the house. You just don't know when you'd need one. Thanks.

Chances are you are going to need it again sooner or later so why now have it on hand. After all you were in the middle of a job when you needed it and had to run out and buy it. How annoying would that be to do all over again? I'd keep it!

It was a bit annoying that I had to run out and get one while I was in the middle of the job. My hands were dirty and I couldn't wash it before going to Home Depot because I turned the water off to fix the sink. Thanks for dropping by.

Hello, I will return it cuz I will not using it again in a long term, so no reason for me to keep it anyway. And plus you live close to Home Depot so you can run to get it any time right? So, save money and return it. I have another pack of screw that I need to return it as well...

Thanks smileonstar. This is the very thought that came to my head when I raised this discussion. If I walked, it wouldn't take me more than 10 minutes to get to Home Depot. That's how close I live to one. Don't forget your receipt when you return that pack of screws you got!

Return it. Its called making your own luck. I always thought it would be a good idea if companies like Home Depot and Lowes would rent tools. Guess it would be a lot to deal with. Maybe that would be a good business opportunity for you Bounce? Start your own tool rental store! :)

Actually, I just found out that Home Depot actually rent out tools. I should have not bought it in the first place. I could just have borrowed one, and returned it when I was done. Well, you learn something new everyday!

No I wouldn't return it Why? The moment you do , you will need to use it again for something else. Why not keep it. A Handyman can't have enough tools!

Well... a Handyman! That's something I have never been called. Maybe I should just keep it, and I keep pretending to be a handyman. Is that some sort of a babe-magnet?

hi bounce no keep it as you may once again need a wrench like that, and now you have one., put it in your tool kit, you can never gave too many tools as far as i am concerned. besides that seems a bit unfair to me, a sad wayto treat Home Depot and too maybe they have a different policy about returning used tools. My son always says keep this and that as I may run into the same situation again. So my advice is keep it you may need it again. probably too the next time the tool may be a lot higher in price if you had to repurchase it. good luck.

Hi Hatley! You bring a very good point. That down the road, if I need a wrench again, it wouldn't be just $20 or so. It could be more pricey. I know it is a bit unfair. This discussion has made it a little clearer for me. Thanks.

I wouldn't because you may need the wrench later. Sure you could return it and get your money back if you really need the money, but If I were you I'd keep it just in case you need it later for something else.

Thanks. I think I am leaning on just keeping it. Most of the responses here have the same advice. And that I may need it down the road. Thanks SomeCowgirl.

Personally I think I would keep it for two reasons...one is because you may never know when you may need it again and two because it was used. I would just be too afraid to return it knowing that even while I am trying to tell them that it isn't used I know deep down inside that it was and I don't think I could handle the guilt of the lie.

I would just keep it... it'll come in handy some time most likely. Its true that you could just purchase it again when you need it but the price could go up and you would just be wasting money when you could of had it already!

You're right ambitiouslyleiah. Six months down the road, when I need the wrench again, it wouldn't just be $20 or so. I bet it would be more expensive.

if i were you, i will return it. because you have done with it. and this is useless for you. and keeping it in you home is quite stuff wasting and dangerous. if someday one thief come to you home and you just come across. and the thief will use this tool to beat you. oh, it is just kind of joking. it is up to you. return it or not.

If this would be with me then I would have kept as i have bought the thing then its me and i can use in future as well or may be someone else need it near by us so may be they can ask it as well. I would not have returned as if u will buy every such thing and will give it back after use then why all these shops will run...lol...these all shops will be shut down so i am opinion you can keep it with u for future use.

Hi there bounce. Well returning would be a good idea for now, but since you don't have an adjustable wrench in your house, would it not be more prudent to keep it in your home in case you need it again for another operation ? Just my thoughts. Cheers.
