Household chores...

Dishes - A dishwasher full of dishes

We all do them, and most of us hate them. BUT - my friend and I were discussing this over lunch and I mentioned the fact that I actually enjoy doing dishes. I know, weird. But then she said that she enjoyed vacuuming. So, is there a chore that you do that you actually enjoy or do you hate them all?

I hate vacuuming and mopping but I too love to wash dishes. I have loved washing them now for so many years. When I moved into this last house back 3 years ago it has a dishwasher. However in the beginning I found it difficult to use it. I just think my hands get the dishes washed better. I do use the dishwasher every other day but I still wash alot of dishes in between.

When I was a kid we didn't have a dishwasher so I did all the dishes and had fun with it. Now I dont like dishwashers but I use them anyway, just in case I dont get everything off. It was hard getting used to one for me too.

I honestly don't think a dishwasher cleans the dishes as good as we do. Even if you use the best product on the market.

Mine is the favorite of many and that is cooking. As for doing dishes I started to like it only since dishwashing liquid became available but back then, when we had to use detergent bars, it was miserable because I was allergic to that. I would always develop rashes and the skin on my hands would become dry. It was not a habit in our household using dishwashing paste either which was not as economical as using the remainder of the detergent bar after my mother washed clothes. I also iron and enjoy it but only occasionally since most of my clothes are 'wash and wear'. I just think there's too much electricity to consume when ironing. Washing clothes used to be my most favorite chore when I was younger but since I started having problems with detegent bars or powder, I started leaving that to the laundromat.

Cooking! Oh, how I miss cooking...I live in a dorm where the only thing I can cook with is a microwave. I am so excited that I graduate soon and can move into a place where I can actually cook! I dont iron either but I do still do laundry at home...Im glad that you have detergent now! Having rashes and dry skin must have been terrible!

I'm really not a big fan of chores but I'll do what I have to so the house actually looks like it's clean. It's not like I'll avoid doing the chores if I hate them. I know they have to be done so I'll do them, it's just that I'd rather not, haha.

Yep - no point in avoiding them or they pile up and take you three times as long to do. I dont avoid them either, but sometimes I would like to.

Cleaning the pool is my favorite for sure. I live with my grandparents who are both over 75 so I pretty much have to do all the housework, but my favorite is the pool. We use it year around so every 3 days I'm out there cleaning it because of leaves and dirt getting in it. It takes usually about 2 hours to clean, its a very big pool, but I love doing it. I use to beg when I was little and would come to visit to be able to clean it. Maybe its because I know once it is clean I can jump in and swim! :)

When we had a pool I hated cleaning it because we had trees everywhere and it was just awful, but I agree that the joy of swimming afterwards usually helped me get over it! That was quite a long time ago, Im jealous! We have no chance of using a pool year-round. My state just had 14 inches of snow last month. Brr!!

Well, I don't like any household chores. But I think the one chore I don't mind doing is the dishes. I think that's because it's the one chore where I don't have to move around a whole lot. I can just stand there, rinse the dishes, and then put them in the dishwasher next to me. The one chore I really hate is putting away the dishes. The dishwasher is low, so I hate having to bend down to get the dishes. And every dish has a particular place in the kitchen they have to go to, so I don't like running back and forth in the kitchen trying to remember where everything is suppose to go.

I actually like unloading the dishwasher - lol. I hate putting the dishes in... But we all have our own little quirks. Thanks for responding!

I hate mating the socks and I'm not fond of putting laundry away, no one is going to leave it where I put it..I keep putting it back on their floors..But I don't mind most of the other ones..I do like to wash the dishes by hand once in awhile, its usually a good way to trap a kid into talking to you for 30 minutes or so,by enlisting their help. and the hot soapy water if good for relieving tension.

I agree with putting the laundry away. Its too bad no one helps you put their own stuff up. I usually help my grandmother with their laundry and it gets done faster so we can chat and catch up.

i dont mind doing house stuff but find that i dont always have the energy to do so, so i am fortunate that my family members pitch in and help. i used to like doing the dishes when the kids where little. that was my 'me' time as my hubby would spend time with the kids and i did the dishes, listend to my tunes and whatnot.

I don't think there's any normal chores that I really hate. I'm not too fond of folding clothes, but I don't hate it. I don't like cleaning up in the shower, not the normal cleaning but taking out the icky stuff that sometimes clogs up the drain is quite disgusting. Cleaning the microwave after my flatmate had burnt bread in it and then left for the weekend was quite gross too, and the horrible food she left for a week. Taking that out was not a pleasant task. And taking out the 2 month old bananas I found in a friends kitchen while visiting her in Scotland, that was really yucky. But it smelled very nicely afterwards :-)

Yeah, the gross chores are definitely the worst as they sneak up on you and you have no choice but to just do it and get it over with. Well, hopefully you will just have the normal ones for awhile and not have to get your hands dirty!

I really love vacuuming as well and I dont know why. It is really fun. I think I like vacuuming so much because it is simple and if you know how to do it right you can get a quick technique to finishing. Mine is a up down and left or right depending on which way the room goes.

Thats very true. That was my major chore as a child so thats probably why I hate it. I had to vacuum every day because my mom is a total clean freak. But I'm glad you have perfected your technique!
