The best and surest way to avoid becoming a victim of "counterfeit money" is to buy a Money Detector machine. You will be surprised how affordable the price of such machine is. It's a valuable tool / equipment especially if you are in business. But for the meantime, if you still don't have that machine, one way to detect a counterfeit money is by crumpling it with your hand. If the money move like a man stretching his arm in the morning after waking up, it's real and legitimate.

thanks for sharing your ideas...money detector is a useful device actually, but you cannot bring it anytime anywhere, so it would be better if you really know some techniques of determining the counterfeit even without that device.

If the money is genuine, after being crumpled and left over the table, it will try to go back to its original size and looks, like a man stretching his arms in the morning!

Well I don't know if this is still true with the new money or not, but back when I used to handle money at work you used to be able to hold the bill up to the light and if you saw little red strings in the money then it was real. Also if you rub it on a peice of paper and ink comes off it is fake. But I am sure they are making money differently now as that hs been several years since I have handled money for a living.

Well, the type of paper of the bill is quite important. As far as I could say, the bill is quite recognizable just by feeling it. Crumple it as I have heard during my elementary days (^_^ ) Authentic bills are stronger. Even if they get wet, they are still strong. Texture is also something to consider. Its not simply flatly printed, you can feel the grooves on real bills. The weight is also noticeable. Well, that's how I would recall anyway (^_^ )

Hi, amandoalexandra. I have been sent 3 fake money orders once before. And, I thought that it was real money. But come to find out that it was very much fake! The people at the money order check out area was able to determine that the money orders was fake right on the spot! I was so ashamed. If those money orders were used, I could have went to jail! This is very scary when someone can give a person fake money without one knowing it. I know that I can't really determine fake money. But, I can determine fake play, play money though..

look for the water mark and security strip, use a counterfeit detection pen. If it passes that even if it is fake most people will not know it.
