First of all, thanks so much for taking the time to read this discussion. I had some great responses in such a short time to my first discussion yesterday. This makes me so happy!! The very first response was from PastorP. Even though I appreciate his thoughts, he tagged MY discussion with GOD, CHRIST, WORD OF GOD, etc. ((Am I able to delete tags, BTW??) This really irritates me because I'm Agnostic. I am spiritually eclectic. Now, let's talk religion here. This is where you can hash out your Religious indifferences!! lol I call this "Religion The*Oh No* Subject" because it's tough to be able to discuss this topic with my family without causing a fight. So, my boyfriend and I avoid the topic all together. Whatever Religion you have chosen - or that has chosen you - is great. Everyone should live a morally sound life. Don't steal, don't hurt any one, don't cheat, make the best choices you can with what you have. My conflict here is the fact that - living in the Bible belt - the majority doesn't take my thoughts, my lifestyle seriously. But I know I'm not alone. Just sayin! Thanks again, everyone!! Let the discussion begin!!!~dd~

Hi thedirtydiva, First of all I think it is wrong for anyone to tag another's discussions with words that they may not agree with. I have never tagged another persons discussions period, although I can't say that I never will. You're right of course, religion is a no-no to a lot of people and often with good reason. I know that I would never want to live in the Bible belt, and certainly don't envy you. Having said that I have read the Bible may times and feel that I know it as well as most and there is both good and bad there. Anyone who says otherwise is not being honest. The problem with many Christians is that they take the Bible literally, and this has caused many problems in our society and caused untold misery to many. The Bible, like the other holy books of the world, is meant as a guide, and people should be able to distinguish between what's true for all times and what was the beliefs of an ancient people with no re valance for today. I am spiritual but not religious and there is a big difference between the two. I believe that life did not begin with this body and will not end with it, although I know that we can't prove it. I feel that we are here to make this world a better place for everyone and that love and compassion are more important than anything else. I don't think it matters if one is an agnostic, atheist or a believer in any religion as we are all human beings and children of the universe. Thanks for the opportunity to respond to a great discussion. Blessings.

first of all wellcome to mylot. to answer your first question,no unfortunately you can't delete tags. i certainly know what you mean. to me religion and politics are both 'oh no' subjects. it's hard to talk about those two subjects without getting into an argument. sometimes people even become enemies because of them. so i usually avoid discussing religion or politics unless i know the other person is very open minded.
religion is a personal choice, everyone should be free to choose their spiritual path and what to believe. nobody should not try to force their bliefs on others. but the problem is certain religions believe they are the only way to heaven. hence, their followeres feel they have an obligation to convert as many people as possible in order to 'save' them. while they may do it with good intentions, they should back off if the other person is not interested and leave them alone.
happy myloting

I very much agree, Aidenw. Thanks for your time and response. For the first four months of our relationship, my boyfriend and I had a hard time talking about politics... But not so much religion since we are both on the same page there. It lead to some heated discussions between us, but it's nothing that can decrease our love for one another. Birds of a feather, ya know? Happy MyLotting to you, also. Thanks again!!

hello and welcome to mylot!
Let me start by saying I am a Christian. I do however respect your beliefs. As a Christian, my job is to simply tell you about Jesus Christ. God gave us all free will. It is Your decision what you do with it. As long as you know about our Savior, there is nothing else for me to do!
I feel religion is such a strong and personal thing. Your views are your own and who am I to say your wrong.

yeah this is always a very touchy subject with many people. myself i was brought up a cathlic, but i dont atten church no more. but i still belive in God and i still pray to him.
i think the big reason why there is such issues with this topic is because everyone think what they belive in is better then others belife. i know so many who will say if you arent cathlic you arent crap.
my thing if it works for you good for you, but if it dont work for me then let it be. too many people is out to make others what they are. and they think everyone should belive in what they belive because they think its right.
my whole thing we all belive in god and we all got different ways of doing this, so i dont push off what i belife in on anyone, and dont want anyone push what they belife on me.

LOL. I absolutely love the title of your discussion. I never understood why everyone wanted to talk about religion when others answered and it just made them angry to hear the others opinions. I lived in the bible belt of the valley in Va. Talk about small towns. It was always so funny that all the people that went to church would just talk about each other behind their backs and be nice to one another on Sunday. Did that make it right? Was that repenting for the week? LOL
I always thought if the people are picking on you they are leaving someone else alone and you are popular. I can honestly say as I grew up I was the talk of a lot of them and hopefully, god or whatever their perspective is will forgive them for judging others and spreading rumors. One of the churchgoers was in the middle of a divorce with his wife because she cheated on him. I saw him at a store one day and asked how he was. I didn't go to the church. He told me he wasn't too good because everyone was talking about him. I told him I hadn't heard, but that left him free to do whatever he wanted because whatever they were saying was probably a lot worse than he could do and it would give them a little more to talk about.

Precisely, MommaJ. Feeding the rumor mill is one of the favorite hobbies of a lot of people. I'm back in college and am surrounded by kids many years my junior who love to trash talk other people then smile in their faces. My motto, I don't have anything to say behind your back that I wouldn't say to your face. Thanks so much for sharing your story with me!! (Glad ya like the title, too!!)
