My mom tell me that when she is still a teenager she often been caught by her sister sleep walking their are times she would open the door and it is only lucky then, her companion see her. Then, she wake up then when ask if she know what she doing, then she told her companion that somebody is calling her which add to the fear of her companion. From then on, they make sure the door is close and she have companion because she always sleep walking which could be dangerous as she may fall on the stairs. Eventually, as years pass she was able to control the urge though the only thins which left on her she keep talking while sleep especially when she ger deep sleep and feel so tired. maybe the mannerism is a reflection of the human stress levels manifested in her sleep.

maybe they are dreaming while walking sleeping and parents need to guard their child for security reasons they are in danger of having fall. so parents need to be on guard as it is bad if something happen to their children,

My brother was a bit of a sleep walker, usually when he needed to find the bathroom, but could not wake up. Sometimes they just are too sound asleep, but need to finish some day activity that is on their mind.

I am not sure what causes it but I have seen my kids doing it a few times over the years. Mostly they have done it in the first few hours that they have been in bed and while we were still awake to witness it.
It is funny to see the blank looks on their faces and watch them walk around bumping into things. We had to stop my son from trying to pee into the laundry cupboard where all of our dirty clothes go once. This is no where near the toilet in the house, so not sure why he was down there.
They never remember there little journeys when we ask them about it the next day either and do not seem to believe us when we tell them what they were up to the night before...LOL

Hi amyson, i have been away for months now and i am trying to catch up with the discussions. With regards sleep walking, i have a brother who sleep walks at night but that was when he was still 7 or 8 years old. He usually go straight to the main door and open it and go out of the house. Good thing, my mother is easily awaken by slight movements and sound that he gets rescued immediately. When he reached puberty stage he does not do it anymore. I think when older individuals sleep walks, they should consult a psychiatrist.

I have no children yet but i heard some children walk at night that may be the cas of somnabolism or walking while sleeping out of unconsciousness which may be part of a dream. So far not only children experience it as even in adults it also happen to and their are cases where those people who have this kind of condition. They need to consult a therapy as it really dangerous if they walk and sleep on the second floor building their are danger being fall on the building or accidentally injured. I really do not know about stress but it have something to do with being restless.

I don't have a children of my own now. When I was young I do sleep walk according to my parents. I really don't have a knowledge if it causes a distress with the child. It is called somnambulism and it is very common to kids 6-16. Sleepwalkers, their eye is open but their mind is blank. However, sleep walking is still not a disorder, unless it causes serious problems. Sleep walking can be worsened by environmental factors, fatique and stress. So maybe the reason why I sleep walked before was my environment. Actually I start doing this at the age of 10 and I stopped at the age of 11.

Sleep walking is a kind of sleeping disorder, and it's like some kind of sickness.. It does not only happen to children, but to adults as well..
It's not stress or whatever, but it's something to do with the brain, which prompts them to sleep walking?? All i know is that, i have not met anybody whom sleep walk.. hehe ^_^
However, when one is sleepwalking, we should not wake up them in that state, for itt might make things worse.. and i dunno what the consequences will be.. hehe

I think sleepwalking runs in the family. My daughter would sleep walk when she was young. She would even have night terrors. I would find her sleeping on the floor leading to my door of my bedroom. We once found her upstairs on the stairs crying in her sleep. I also knew a child when I was young who actually walked in his sleep to an empty lot next to our house. He had hurt himself in the woods but thankfully was ok. My granddaughter who is only 3 was caught sleep walking not to long ago. She got up to grab something from her nightstand while talking in her sleep. My three year old grandchild and my daughter have not experience any type of stress at the time. I think its just about vivid dreams that they may be having that provokes them to get up and walk or talk in their sleep.

Some of the factors causing sleep walking, among others:
»Fatigue
»Stress children
»Nervous
»Fever
so, judging from the cause, in my opinion, it is not dangerous
