What dreams have you given up on?

Dreams of fame and fortune - Fame and fortune - dreams given up

So now that you’re a little bit older, and a little bit wiser, it would be interesting to know what dreams, goals or ambitions that you have given up on. When I was a little boy, I dreamt of being a doctor. That was before I realized that the sight of blood makes me uncomfortable. When I was in my teens, I dreamt of holding office in public service. That was before I realized how corrupt the system was, and how much money I have to invest just to get elected. When I was in university, and was having academic troubles, I dreamt of dropping out and just becoming a lounge singer. That was before I realized I have huge stage freight, and I am little bit tone-deaf.How about you? What are the things that you have given up on? Or what compromises have you made? Or you’ve settled for?

When I was little I wanted to have twin boy babies . That was before I learned how babies were born . Once I learned how babies were born I swore off having children at all. instead I wanted to "have" twin guys. But that dream has faded too. Once I wanted a huge house but now I would prefer a penthouse instead. I never dreamt about the profession I wanted.

Oh sarah! It's never too late to "have" twin guys. In fact, I know of twins that you might like. Their swedish, and they play a little hockey. Their not flashy, and some would even say that they are a bit soft. But if you look at their numbers, they are impressive. Over the summer, they've just become rich-er. And the only way to tell them apart, is that one has a bigger forhead than the other, aside from their jersey numbers of course.

When I was still single, I use to think of having a big family of my own. I think that having more children would be happier. Having 6 to 10 kids would make my life happier. Now that I'm into the family thing, I drop that dream long time ago after our third child. It maybe happier but will cost me fortune raising them. That dream now would surely given-up by me.

On a smaller scale, I was like you Fulltank. I wanted 3. But after the second, and realizing that I may not be able to provide for a good education, I became happy with 2.

I was supposed to be retired by now, living in this amazing log cabin in the wilds of Alaska. I guess my compromise is a 3 story brick on main street in a small little village in Michigan. At least the Red Wings are part of the compromise.

Geez J. Isn't it cold out there in Palin-country? And wouldn't you see Russia there when you look out your window? I would love to compromise and settle down on a real sports town too! Or any place near the original 6's home.

That dream was long before I knew or (anybody knew for that matter) who Palin was. Maybe if I was looking at Russia I would get the chance to see the next Pavel playing hockey on a pond or something..I try not to let thougts of Palin enter my dreams of Alaska..Maybe I will trade Alaska for Canada

I have given up the dream of becoming a CPA lawyer. When I was in college I just realized that you have to be influential at the same time knows a lot of prominent people to become a successful lawyer and I'm just not like that. I also don't like the idea of defensing a person even though I know he is lying. So, I decided to shift to another course, and now I am a nurse and still waiting for a miracle to pursue it.

Hello clouds0327. What did you mean by 'waiting for a miracle to pursue it'? Are you already a nurse? Are you waiting to get out of the country and work abroad? I hope you achieve some of your dreams, even if it doesn't mean being a CAP lawyer. Goodluck. BTW, how's MTS these days?

When I was younger, I wanted to be a fireman, I wanted to be a police officer, I wanted to be a rich celebrity. But I quickly found out that such professions are not easily obtained. I think that everyone has dreams, and everyone has a shot at getting to those dreams, but it might take a lot more than you originally anticipated. People can get to the dreams that they have pondered about for years. But I also believe that it takes a very very strong individual to get to such places in life. And some dreams, may take a few weeks, and some might take 30 or 40 years... Never give up. It's never too late. Never.

LOL. i've just posted a topic related to this. but this one's really funny. funny reality check. As a kid I wanted to become an astronaut, but realized its quite far fetched. So I thought I should be practical and go corporate so I took up accountancy which my parents encouraged me to do even if they know I hate Math but I'm their puppet so i finished it. I took the board exams without really wanting to pass. LOL. Recently I quit my corporate job. I'm chasing my real dream now which is to become a lounge singer. I've ignored that subconscious desire for as long as I can remember.

not yet! lol. its quite recent. I quit my job just yesterday. Last December I found an opportunity to go for that silly dream but it'll be happening in April. I'm signing up for singing lessons next week. This takes a lot of guts and I dont know where I'm getting this determination. its not simple at it seems to be.

hi bounce Ihave not given up on my dream of being published although I am elderly. I did give up on being a reference librarian and instead worked as a page in our library. I did also work as a nurses aide although I had wanted to be a nurse. but I am still writing and hoping for a break. So I did settle on compromises but I am happy and thats worth a lot.

Hi Hatley. As long as you're happy, that's important. You can't help settling for somethings, and compromising on others. I think that's just life. But the dreams you have high regard you keep close to your heart. And those you never give up on. Thanks for responding!

Well, apart from things like having more children, taking my dad to the Eden project, getting my brother an amazingly original and funny gift for his 50th, being taller, staying young - all of which have been denied by nature, I wouldn't say I've totally given up on my dreams as yet. Some may be highly unlikely but my dreams now form the basis of my "Bucket List".

That's very interesting Wizzywig. That you've chosen to put your unfulfilled dreams in your bucket list. It explicitly means that you've defined them well and you have every intention of doing or achieving it. Good luck to you.

When I was younger, I also dreamed of being a doctor and to follow the steps of my father. However, it was during high school when I realized that science and math are not my cup of tea, and that I excel on English and Social Sciences subject. That's when I decided to give up my aspirations to become a doctor and to take up law. My father is happy with my decision since he really admires lawyers.

When I was in high school I dreamed of being a nurse, and yes, I took nursing when i was in college..but when i got into third year college,at the middle of the semester my father got sick and have to maintain medicines cos he's a diabetic.. so I stopped school and decided to go work abroad so that I can help my family, and while working abroad I met a guy, we're both in love and decided to get married. So I am three years married now, I told my husband that I still want to pursue my study but he didn't allow me, he just want me to stay home and take care of my our son.

Hi Bounce, When I was younger I wanted so badly to be a child psychiatrist. It is still a dream, to be sitting in my office talking to children who need so badly to have someone help reach them when they just cant talk to anyone else. Alas, I am older now, and still trying to fininsh that psych degree. I have worked with kids and made some great relationships, some that I am so proud of, but the dream is still in me. Also, I was an amazing gymnast, but quit when I was in high school. Damn the silly choices we make as kids!!

i always dream of being a pilot when i was young, giving up on it since it is one the most expensive courses requiring 1000 plus hours of flight test that you have to pay for. then i dreamt of being a race track driver, but then again i had a terrible traumatic motor vehicle accident, so i gave it up.. and honestly, i went to college without really knowing what course to take and just took engineering as most of my classmates in high school did. after graduating, i ended up working in a casino...lol! i dreamt of being filthy rich, i ended up having a big family to provide for and having to work double time.. as of now, i just dream of seeing my future grandchildren, lol! hoping that i would still be around....

Hi obe. You're just like me. I took up engineering because I did not know what to take after high school. And everybody in class seemed to think it was a good course. Thankfully I finished, and I still work and use my engineering background. Thanks for responding.

Hi sofear. Maybe you just haven't found the right one. Maybe if Mr. Right comes along, then you'd change your tune on marriage. And who knows? Maybe Mr. Right is even a footballer. Thanks for dropping by.

yes. i really would like to learn how to cook as per mother's teachings, it's a good thing that a housewife can cook for her family. i've tried and tried then tried again.. but unfortunately, i almost burn our house down, cut my fingers several times and realized that it's not for me. so i have given up that dream of mine.

I always wanted to be a doctor but we are financially constraint that time that I was already force to work to help augment the family income. Somehow I envy my friends who have push through of being a doctor but on second thoughts I am thankful that I have been part of contributing in my family sustainability.
