My husband and I actually eloped. We got married at the county clerks office. And even though it hardly sounds romantic or elegant, the ceremony was still very nice. Heck, even the woman that married us was in tears. LOL
Best of all, it was simple and inexpensive. All in all, it cost just under $100 to get married. That was almost 15 years ago though, so it may have gone up a bit in price since then.
Congratulations! Happy mylotting!

I feel the same way about marriage (his has been my one and only marriage). The only difference is that I didn't care where I got married as long as I was marrying the man of my dreams.
So like you said, it definitely comes down to personal choice.

Just never let the spark die. We talk in each others arms every night. We always do things to show our love. Its work sometimes, but its worth it.

I know there are many people that marry though the county clerks office, but I just have this thing that this is going to be my first and only marriage. I want a small inexpensive wedding to commemorate because this guy is the one I am going to marry and be with the rest of my life. It comes down to personal choice.

At first we had the church ceremony, and after that we went to a café to have coffee and wedding cake. My parents had bought the wedding cake, and made arrangements at the café. My husband and I didn't hear about it till the last minute and that was a very nice surprice. While we were there we started opening the presents, and we received many beautiful things. In the evening we had dinner at a Chinese restaurant. There were many songs and speeches, and we all have a very good time. After the dinner we had coffee and then my husband and I left the party. We had rented a hotelroom in another part of the country and we spent our honeymoon there.

That sounds wonderful. What a great surprise! And Chinese food! That is our favorite too. I can't wait for our wedding.

my wedding day was absolutely amazing.
we had two ceremonies, as in my country there is no option to have a legally binding ceremony in my religion, which is very unfortunate.
so we had the religious ceremony first, which was a handfasting, and we had that in a stone circle on the moors. we wrote the ceremony ourselves, and everyone there, even those that weren't familiar with handfastings and didn't know what to expect (my family are about 90% Pagan, his are mostly atheist or Christian), said it was a really moving and meaningful ceremony. at the point when we asked the blessing of the Sun above us, the clouds parted and the sun beamed down. it was amazing. really really special. during the ceremony, our mothers bound our hands together with ribbons, symbolising the uniting of our souls together for all time, and also representing the passing on of the bond we have with our families to the bond we have together, binding us to each other as well as to the ancestors.
after this ceremony, we had the legal one. we were going to just go to the registry office together afterwards with just witnesses, and have it very low key, BUT, we discovered a nearby venue where you can be married in a now disused slate mine. it doesn't sound very glamourous, but we'd been there before as a day out, and it's BEAUTIFUL. there's the upper chamber, which is often used as a music venue, but then you go down some steps into a vast cavern, which for weddings is absolutely filled with candles, and is utterly magical. just off that main cavern is a smaller chamber with a subterranean lake, which is just so beautiful, peaceful and magical. so we had our legal ceremony there, and it was just perfect.
our reception was in my parents large orchard, with lots of tents, and buffet food.
if you're on a budget, there's a lot you can do to have a really special day. in fact, you can make it even more personal.
luckily, my favourite weddings I've been to have a buffet rather than a sit down meal. I love being able to pick at lots of party food throughout the day, especially the cheeseboard. and this is usually the cheaper way to feed people too.
it's always good to ask around your circle of friends, you never know who you know that might make your cake or do your flowers as a wedding present. and there's so many things you can make yourself too, like invites or decorations.
the confetti.co.uk forums are brilliant for help and ideas, whether you're after a big budget day or trying to save costs.

We had our wedding last 2008. It is a church wedding, we had 160 guest. We were able to save for the wedding because we had a lot of diy (do it yourself thing) like the invites (hubby does it) for the souvenirs, I have to do it myself since I love to do beadworks. A lot of friends and relatives also has given us some freebies for the wedding. Like our wedding cake, it was given by a good friend of my husband. Our head wedding coordinator is my best friend (labor of love).

That sounds very nice. I can't imagine having that many people. Come to think of it I doubt I even know that many people! I plan to do a lot of diy stuff. The biggest expense will be my wedding dress.
