Well, not really that big, but it is a virtual clone of an old product, & I'm wondering if they bought the rights & changed the name, or just swiped the idea. It's about a "new" diet aid called "Full Bar." That might not be the correct spelling, but I've heard their ad. They pretend it's new, but way, way back--at least as far the 1950s--the exact same thing existed. As I recall, it was spelled "Aydes," or something close to that. I'm sure, given the horror that is associated with AIDS, that name would never fly today, so, could the same company be making a comeback, or did someone re-invent the "wheel," here? The stuff even comes in "chocolate," & like the original, must be chewed some time before a meal. The gunk swells up & acts like a poor person's lap band surgery, blocking off the lion's share of the stomach, so that when one eats a meal, they feel "full" far sooner. The candy itself has either zero or few calories, & perhaps fiber for digestion. Aydes didn't really taste like chocolate. Well, it had a semi-chocolate-y flavor, & a vaguely less palatable after-taste. They offered a caramel version which was a slight improvement. Anyone here tried this "new" product? If so, given the advances in the flavor simulation industry, tell us, how does it taste? If you ever ate Aydes, does Full Bar taste the same? Better? Worse? What else have any of you seen reinvented & sold as something new? It's an old advertising scam, & if people are so young they don't know the original, they buy into it. I'm not saying the current product works or doesn't--haven't tried it--though because of the taste, I gave up on the original Aydes. If they've improved the flavor, I might use it. Okay--your turn! Wow! That is good news! I've been waiting for that product to make a comeback as I used it years ago and have missed it for a while now as I'm dieting! "Full Bar" or something like that.. I'll be looking for it! - I actually liked the flavor tho. Hope it is still way lo-cal.

Not quite the reply I'd expected, but if it works for you, then let 'er rip, Flowerchilde! I wish you the best with it, and your diet! Thinking back, I haven't tried these things since I was a teen, & I gave up on them solely because of the flavor, as I recall. I think the process actually did work. Mom used them, as well as an aunt. Anyway, as I mentioned, great strides have been made in artificial flavorings since I tried them. If these new versions work and taste reasonably good, then I could give them another try. Goodness knows I could stand to lose a few! Okay, a lot... Maggiepie VOTING POWER: USE IT OR LOSE IT....

Oatmeal does about the same thing. When I eat oatmeal, I'm full most of the morning and I keep drinking water. I think a lot of grains that you have to cook with water aren't as expanded as they could be and do that. Although, theirs may be compressed celulose. That can be from celery (hopefully, although could be a problem for people with sodium related high blood pressure) or corn cobs (the body doesn't really digest that) or something I don't know about it yet. Most stuff that's diet like those bars or drinks have a chocky flavor. I think that's vitamin taste or powdered milk, something does that in almost every bar of anything I've ever tasted. Power bars were good, but sooo dry, gave me constipation.
