Burning fat by simply eating smaller meals

There are two ways to burn fat: eat less, or exercise more. Since I already exercise daily, the best way to burn more fat would be to eat less. My idea is to simply decrease the portions in my meals and just deal with the hunger in between. Obviously this takes a little bit of will power, but I've known a few people that have lost a LOT of weight this way. After a while my body should get used to eating smaller portions and I won't be as hungry in between meals. Does anybody think this is a good idea? Has anyone lost a lot of weight this way?

It's a good idea to lower caloric intake, but you could always just eat healthier meals so you don't feel so hungry. You don't want your body to think it's being deprived.

Good for you. I too have decided that it is time for a healthier lifestyle and I have started portion managing as well. Portion managing is exactly what you are doing right now. Instead of cutting the foods you love out of your life, simply regulate the portions that you eat. If you used to eat two pork chops at dinner time, only eat one. If you like pizza and normally polish off 4 pieces, try eating only two. I have cut my portions in half and it is working. However here is where I differ from you, instead of making yourself suffer through hunger pains between meals, try chewing on a carrot or celery stalk, anything healthy. It won't affect your portion intake because instead of having a large dinner helping, you will have half, besides if your body thinks that it isn't getting enough food, it will start to store fat between meals, so keep some healthy veggies close at hand. Try to stay away from fruits though, believe it or not, most of them contain a lot of natural sugars that turn into starch and that isn't good for your weight loss. Hope that you stick with it and just stay strong, before you know it, you'll have to cuy some new clothes to celebrate.

I agree 100%. We don't need to eat so much food, just enough to full us up. And veggies are great for filling in that extra gap. Thanks for all the advice, have a wonderful day!

Yes it is suggested to eat five to six small meals a day to help your metabolism. I am currently just doing Weight Watchers and doing cardio almost daily. I didn't do it yesterday due to a root canal, and I doubt I will do it today because of the pain. However, my body feels the aches when I haven't exercised or if I eat something bad. Best advice is eat good foods and exercise.

You know I've noticed that too, now when i eat something that's not so healthy it bothers me, when it didn't used to. I really can't even have sweet drinks any more because I'm so used to drinking water. Thanks a lot, and happy mylotting!

Hi ab it does make a lot of sense to eat less and loose weight. I feel that even you eat matters. If you fill yourself up with a large quantity of salad you are not likely to put on weight. Drinking water before a meal helps one automatically cut down on the quantiuty they eat. I am also trying out various things to loose weight....I am thinking of going easy for a day each week. Not exactly remaining without taking any food, but take just water, fruits and fresh vegetables...All the best

I've been filling up on a lot of veggies too. In fact I just had a bowl of navy beans and peas, a simple low carb snack that's high in protein and fiber and has no fat. i like the water idea, thanks! Have a great day!

I have to disagree with you. I did this once but it didn't work 1. because our stomach secretes gastric juices to digest the food but because you took a portion of the quantity of the meals the gastric juices is now more than food you took and thus creating an irritation to your stomach 2. it is now at risk for gastric ulcers and that is bad. I suggest that you do exercise and eat your regular meals. And it is not also wise to skip meals. That is a really bad idea.

I never though about that. I do agree though that skipping meals is a bad idea, in fact I try to eat 5-6 small meals a day. Thanks for dropping in, have a nice day!

Wow, 3 hrs?! I'm impressed, that's a lot of extra calories being burned right there. Junk food can really do it too. I think pop (soda) is the worst out there for that. Thanks for the input, have a great day!

I haven't lost a lot of weight this way, but I have lost some. And my husband has, too. We use smaller plates, so we it's a bit easier to control portion sizes.

I've heard of people doing that, using smaller plates and such so the meal looks bigger, kind of psychotherapy really. Thanks a lot, have a nice day!

I'm trying to lose a little weight myself and I agree, it's important to eat less and exercise more. I have been quite bad at this when it comes to the weekend! Every weekend on a Sunday I have a huge spaghetti bolognese, I mean the plate is enormous! I guess I haven't been doing myself any favours! Still, it's a new year and it's time that I started making some serious changes. Andrew. Welcome to My Lot.

Your right that way we can burn fat and weigh more less than a month.. I would prefer you can change your breakfast to coffee actually it can burn fats so fast. Instead of breakfast foods change it to coffee and a ample of bread. For me that is a better way to burn fats. Don't eat cheese and fatty foods etc.

I agree totally, in fact since I started dieting I have been drinking about 3 cups of coffee every morning before my workout and having only a banana for breakfast, seems to be working well. Thanks for the advice, have a good one!

Thanks for the tips. You're right, meat does have a lot of fat in it, which makes it difficult to build much muscle while still losing weight. Fruit is a nice snack, but it does have a lot of natural sugar in it, so we need to make to we don't eat too much fruit at one time, as it could cause a blood sugar spike, resulting in fat storage. Thanks for joining in, and have a nice day!

I think it's half true. I believe eating less would really contribute to one's slimming diet. but i think the proper way to do it is to just eat until you are full and not overfeed yourself. i also dont think it is right to let yourself get hungry. i think a person should eat when he or she needs to but just eat what's right/appropriate and do not consume too much. i think everything boils down to moderation. it's like training your body to process what's enough so the metabolism stabilizes and not much extra fat is stored.

Absolutely, I believe that the body naturally knows how much it needs. We just tend to eat more because we make food taste so good. Thanks, have a nice day!

eating small meal is appropriate but how frequent? and do you maintain the three important nutrients? (low glycemic complex carbs/protein/EFA), do you have equal calorie input = calorie output? do you cycle your calorie?..this are important to consider to have successful lose fat program....most of people i known in the gym think of a diet, they think of pain, hunger and food depravation, at first, they reduce their food intake and see that is the first week they lose 10lbs. so they said "great inorder to lose more weigth i need eat less more", then after a few weeks they notice that they are not losing as fast as tehy had hoped for and then get frustrated, and if they are more determine to continue to lose weigth they will start to starve themselves ever more...

I'm not too sure about the three important nutrients that you described. Can you elaborate a little on that? I, quite simply, eat only about 1500 calories a day and burn probably about 2500-3000, so the excess calories come from body fat. Once I've slimmed down to where I want to be I will return to 2200-2500 calories a day. I agree that some people don't eat right at all, just start starving themselves, and that can be worse than any thing. Thanks and have a nice day!

You could eat less and eat less fat in order to be slim. From my own experience I am a little bit chubby but when I started to eat less plus eat less fat and exercise more, I manage to attain a wt of 50kg from 54kg. In order to keep my energy, I eat candy, take lots of vitamins and drink at least 4 liters a day of water. I also drink 3 cups of coffee a day or drink energy drink most especially if I'm starting to feel weak. as much as possible, I stay away from high carbo foods and I eat a lot of meat. because you urinate the excess protein while you tend to store extra carbo in your body in the form of fat. So if you want to be slim, control your appetite while stayying healthy by supplementing your body with vitamins.

definitely, vitamins are awesome. Although I disagree about eating candy to control your sugar, from what I understand the point is not to spike your blood sugar. When you do your body converts excess blood glucose into body fat. Thanks for the advice, have a nice day!

That's one of the better ways to lose weight, for sure. As long as you're still eating a balanced diet and aren't starving yourself (make sure to eat more than 1200 calories a day!), you should be golden. Good luck!

Well, i am also into eating less portion of my food combined with regular exercise, to make my born burn more fat and in the process makes me more slimmer. We must always eat the right food, so that our diet is more effective. It's better to avoid eating too much starchy food, oily, fatty, and even sugary food. These foods aren't helpful if they are taken in too much, they will only makes us grow fatter. In between my meals, i eat plenty of fruits and even drink plenty of water. So far, i am doing fine, so i think it's alright to slim down my body that way.

Right on! Glad to hear that it's working for you. Eating fruit in between meals seems to be quite common among dieters, and I have to agree that drinking lots of water helps no matter what you are trying to do. Good luck to you and have a nice day!

I strongly agree, eating a small portion of food rather than eating large portion at one time ... It make sense when you're trying to keep your body fit, i have tried this and so get an amazing results..In between meals i drink glasses of water to filled up my hunger,of course water intake would likely to feel full. And it can be a good reason that you will eat less of the meal time.. Have a nice day!Happy myLotting!

no i dont agree with that . it is mythh that if we dont have meal fat will reduce . simple step one needs to follow for weight reduction - drink loads of water , do walking early morning , try to avoid oily foods , exercise in between would be great like stretching , have loads of protein intake . More than gym and other stuff walking cycling are best bet cheers
