I was feeling a bit out of sorts and low since a few days because of personal problems besides feeling very lonely. Today, I decided to tackle things and not to simply sit and brood but act. I decided to do some much needed jobs in my garden and before I knew it, I was completely immersed in my garden and plants and spent the entire day repotting, watering and generally tidying up my garden. I feel so much better now and a lot healthier too. When I started in the morning I had a headache coming on and mentally I was down down.....But now I feel wholly reftreshed and confident to face anything that comes my way. Friends what is your healthy option for driving away blues ....Have you tried gardening and do you like it?

while i like gardening because when you plant a seed, you often get a wonderful end result, for me, the best remedy is to work on a craft project. i tend to loose myself in my craft area and sometimes even forget to eat!!

Yes gardening is the best solution for when you feel low. My dad does it and so do I and we become free of our problems when we do that. We forget about all the bad and negative stuff that's what I just adore about gardening. You feel good when you have accomplished something that you see your plant to bloom and grow you feel proud of yourself. Gardening is not so easy it does take hard work and just a lot of patience and fun. Soon enough if you plant a plant it will start to grow with the proper care.

Hi Anime, Yes I agree gardening makes sure that all your negative and depressing thoughts vanish and you feel refreshed at the end of it.It is a lot of hard work but so rewarding. I had planted a hibiscus plant which had almost withered away since I was away for sometime from home. Now since 2 weeks I have been tending to it and today I noticed the begionning of a bud. I cant even express the kind of joy it gives me to see this....Thanks a lot and all the best

I am my fathers caregiver and quit a job 6 years ago to tend to him and been doing it since. We bought our house just prior to dad moving in. I do a LOT of gardening and love it. It's great exercise for me as well as a stress reliever. Nothing beats eating foods that you grew yourself as well. I usually have about 15 different things planted vegetable wise. I also have grapes, red rasberries, strawberries and 2 types of apples growing in my yard/garden. So I get a ton of work from April till about October each year. As always.... HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Hi webeishere, thanks a lot for your response It must be giving you a lot of satisfaction doing all that work in your garden.Gardening is an enjoyable hobby and one never thinks of it as a job that needs to be done.I too am trying to grow Tomatoes , curry leaves and Spinach in pots since most of my garden area is shaded and as you know vegetables need a lot of sunlight to grow and yield...all the best and happy gardening

Recently I joined dance class in my campus... at my age I was not sure whether to join or not, but I found it very de-stressing...trainer is a middle aged women, she takes care that I don't get too tired and gives me short breaks in between, but after that I feel so fresh and energetic...it serves two purposes, both exercise and entertainment...

I used to do a lot of gardening. Unfortunately, it hurts my back more than it used to, so I don't do as much as I once did. I mostly like planting flowers...

Yes, gardening is a very good way to free us from stress. When i was still single before, whenever i am feeling sad and hard to communicate with people about my problem, i always spend time do gardening in my flower garden. Although it's hot and tired, but i do felt refreshed once more, after spending time in my flower garden. Besides it's providing us a good form of exercise for our body, it's also a good way to free us from sadness or stress. By the way, when you spend more time with your flowers, you will see your flowers are blossoming very beautifully.

I bury myself into clearing up the mess in my cupboards and elsewhere. As I am clearing that, my mind too gets cleared. Gardening is no doubt a passion with me but that I do every single day whether in a good mood or bad but I have noticed that if I clean up around that has been my best mood clearing weapon.

I feel so yes !! Gardening is good for keeping you off blues. Its the most healthier job I feel. It keeps your mind and body feel good ,onother reason you are enhancing greenry to the area which is good for all of us.It gives you sense of doing something not only for youself but for the atmosphere.Watering, taking off weeds, adding plants flowering plants or out door plants even making kitchen garden in small pot is a good idea. When you see growing them the feeling one gets is very refreshing. It does not tire you rather gives you some exercise while doing such jobs in the garden.

Hi Kiran! Gardening is one of the best options to indulge and feel busy. I think you did the right job by getting yourself immersed yourself in gardening. I sometimes, do the same and keep watering and setting my potted plants and it gives me so much pleasure to look after my plants that I forget everything. Hope you would feel better now after gardening.

That sounds like a very positive thing to do although I don't have a garden myself as I live in a one bedroom flat. I have experienced days like yours plenty of times but I guess I turn to a good book as opposed to gardening, this seems to work for me. I guess there's nothing stopping me from purchasing a plant for my window sill though! Andrew

Hi Andrew, thanks a lot for your response I guess we all have our highs and lows and the best way to tackle it is to divert one's mind away for sometime, so that you can become clear headed.Do get a plant for your window sill and I am sure you will have a few more in a years time because plants and gardening is addictive - all the best and have a great Sunday

I love to garden. It's a stress reliever for me and I feel completely at peace when I'm out there digging around in the dirt. I particularly enjoy working in my rose garden and in the summer, I always have a veggie garden. I grow fresh herbs as well. It's great to go outside and grab fresh herbs and veggies for your evening meal. My other healthy option for driving away the blues is a good long walk on the beach. There's not other place where I feel so much at peace and so at one with nature than the beach.

Hi Lauren, Thanks a lot for your response and congratulations on reaching 1000....I too feel the same when I am gardening and amidst my plants. In fact I love open spaces where there is untouched greenery and nature. It soothes you like no other and walking on the beach is great esp when you want to be alone with your thoughts - all the best and have a great weekend

Hi wishuluck, we all need some form of activity that destresses us when things become difficult to handle. Gardening and even going for long walks helps one clear one's mind and generally calms you down. I too go for walks and find it very helpful - all the best and happy mylotting
