he got a hematoma in his ear and had to have it opened, drained and "quilted" back together - now the poor baby will have a sad ear, do any of your cats have "sad ears" because of injuries? I had one lose about half his ear because he had a tumor on it

Oh, poor Timus! Remember Hobo's "sad ear?" I wish we'd found him before he had that horrible fight!

Just after Christmas of last year, I noticed that my cat (T.C.) was continually shaking his head, and seemed to having trouble hearing. He always answered my calls before, however, not this time. I knew that this was not his "normal" behavior, so I immediately took him to the vet.
Indeed, something was wrong. He had suffered a bit from a dust mite. (He likes sleeping on the rug from time to time.)
After his check-up, vet fees, and medication, I was presented with a nice new Christmas present....a bill for $372.00 dollars! However, the way I look at it is this...since he's been my buddy for the past 13 years, he is most definitely well worth the money, and I'm happy to say, with the purchase of a brand new (expensive!) "pet" vacuum cleaner, he has healed up perfectly.

Indeed they do.
They are often found within the fibers of high pile carpeting, during the winter months.
Re: feral cats...
I'd hazard to say, that it would only be natural to assume, that ear mites are more than likely to appear.

We had to have that done to our previous cat, Bogie. His poor ear swelled up and turned purple. He couldn't stop worrying at it with his paws! We took him to the vet to get it fixed. They quilted it with pink stitches. My stepson thought that was awful, that they should have used blue as he was a boy. His ear did look rather forlorn after the stitches came out. He was his normal sweet self afterwards though.

poor kitty
i hope he feels better soon.
not my currents.
my first cat came in with an injury to his ear once that turned into an abcess
and made a hole through the ear cartilage.the vet saw no need for stitching, but when it healed he had a lump on it for the rest of his life.

Ouch, that sounds sore poor Timus! I have not ever had a cat with ear problems. My cat Friday who passed away last November used to get eye infections and his eyes would ooze an awful white discharge so he had to have antibiotic ointment on his eyes on a regular basis. Hope he recovers well soon, ear problems can be very painful...

Timus is just turning into a whole body of scars, he heals so badly, he has the big scar on his back and then smaller ones on his neck and cheek. Even a little scratch can become a big deal on him because of his FIV. Well, that and he's an "itchy" boy anyway

No, I have not had ear problems with my cats, other than the occassional burr in their ears, which has to removed by a vet.
One of my cats, had an eye procedure two years ago. He was scratched in the eye by another cat. It tore his cornea and a bit of claw got embedded in his eye.
She had to a specialist to get the claw removed and treatment for the cornea. This meant she to wear an elizabethan collar for a while, which she did not like. It cost $1000 for her treatment.
Hope your cat fully recovers.

Poor kitty! I hope he feels better soon. As I don't have cats, I haven't had that but one of the reasons I was able to get my first Boston Terrier is because one of his ears wouldn't stand up properly. I thought it was kinda cute.

hi ElicBxn oh poor timus that must have hurt,I feel sorry for a kitty who has ear problems. as I know how much people's ear
problems can hurt, at least we can vocalize our discomfort whereas poor kitty can only meow and hurt. I never had a pet cat who had ear problems but know it does happen quite often.

Oh yes, I had 2 cats that had hematomas and a dog. I only had the dog's ear treat . surgery.. Twice.. and still both his ears turned into cauliflowers.. lol
Cats ears just curled up when they healed. Vet said no need to really treat them.. I wanted my dog's ears to look good... vet tried to talk me out of it.. I was the vain one.. it didn't work anyway..
Oh well..

I have had a number of cats with numbers of problems. About the only problem they never had was anything wrong with their ears. I hope he recovers from the procedure and is okay. @kaylachan (84823)

I have a cat that's got half an ear. We don't know what happened, but when I found her, it was already like that. George thinks she might've gotten into a fight or something or got it ripped off somehow in the wild. But, the cut is too clean. I think someone chopped it off for whetever reason that still to this day remains unkknown to me. Seeing as how she's a stray or was one when I found here, there is no way to know. She's been to the vet, and they don't know eaither, though the last couple of times she'd been seen by them was or rather they thought she was pregnant.

I don't know. I think maybe so. When I found her it was hard to tell because she was sure young enough-looking to have been. When we took her to the vet, they couldn't find any scares or anything that suggest she was. But, its been almost three years and she hasn't shown any signs of being in "heat". Of course when we first took her to the vet they thought she was pregnant. Again, that is obvious because "something" would have happened by now seeing as its been over two years.

Poor Timus, indeed. Hope it heals up quickly.
None of my cats have had ear troubles, but one had a scabby eye, which turned out okay.
