Hi friend, most of the regions in india are facing the problem of power cut at present because we are unable to fulfill the demand of power we have in our country, thank god I am living in a place which declared as a "HOLY CITY" so we have 24 hours regular power supply in our town. Well good luck to you my friend.

We don't have power outages here often. Maybe once a year tops. Not more. India is sprinting towards true modernism but is yet to face some big hurdles. ;)

India is though seems to be sprinting towards modernism but this modernism is like a curse for poor people and middle class family as we have no power and extra rising inflation combined with corruption and terrorism hope things will improve for us Hare Krishna Ganesh

Things will never improve until and unless there is massive investment in basic infrastructure all around…not just pockets of metro cities. The Govt has money but is caught up in populist schemes of Nehruvian era…today rice cannot be given at Rs. 2 a kg…its impossible but the Govt is giving it as a populist scheme…similarly agriculture is not taxed as its said to be the occupation of ‘poor’ farmers…I’m sure you have every idea as to how rich agrarian landlords all over India are! What was the urgent requirement of a fledgling nation in Nehru’s time, was still OK in Indira’s time cannot be the same in today’s scenario. If the country has to move forward then, like western nations, the Govt will have to ensure all round development of every corner of the nation and then leave it to the people to earn their livings the proper way and pay for good comfort…instead the govt is just forcing the poor to remain as beggars. Things are changing, but at a very very slow pace…sometimes democracy is a real curse as you have to take so many things into account.

It is no difference in my place. Everyday there sure be power cut and the reasons given is power shedding. What ever that means is beyond my comprehension. I am used to this kind of unreasonable power cut which comes at any odd hours.

Hi Ganesh! It is very common in India these days. I also face the same problem but for 3 hours per day especially in the day. So I usually I prefer to be online at night as there will be no disturbance of power cut. Hope India can find a way to this problem. The other way is we ourselves need to find a way like back up battery or solar system that can substitute whenever there is a power cut. Happy Mylotting!

That's bad! I heard over the news tonight that here in the Philippines, we might have power outages in the summer months. But so far, power has been supplied constantly at my place. I only hope that there will be no power problems here in the Philippines because it will be very bad for businesses.

I guess its about time for us to shift to renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power.

I'm sorry you have to go through that. I hope you won't be too hot or too cold! Are businesses being affected, too? How are you going to handle it? I realize electricity isn't a necessity of life but it certainly is a wonderful thing to have! We don't have that over here in America except sometimes in the desert states the grid gets overloaded with everyone having their cooling systems on. I had my power cut off for 4 days because of a wind storm but it didn't have that much of an impact on me, I know how to enjoy life without power.

Hi Blummus! I lived in Arizona and it was impossible to be comfortable unless you had a pool when the power went off. When I moved here to Ohio, I made sure I bought a few rechargeable fans. I haven't needed them yet but I make sure they are always ready. You should get a couple of them, they work really well. I go mine at Walmart for $15 each for the larger desktop ones. One of them will move the air nicely through a 10x15 room!

Here in Sacramento much of the city is under rolling blackouts and peak-time air conditioner cutoffs during the summer to cut down on the electricity used by air conditioners. Without the blackouts in some areas, most of the city would be dealing with brownouts or longer outages. If it's a rolling blackout, there are warnings issued in the press so people can arrange their plans if they are going to be affected. We also are pretty much in a constant drought condition, so garden and yard watering are kept to a minimum and mostly at night and early morning. As for preparing for these things, my friends and I might go to the grocery store or mall in one of the other power zones if there's no wind and the air is hot, but usually we go outside and open up the windows to catch the breeze if it's hot indoors. If there's no power, we light up a couple of citronella candles to keep the bugs off and/or sit out in the moonlight and talk or listen to music until things get better. When the power comes back on, I make sure the batteries are charged up for the next time. I'm hoping to get a laptop soon so we will have internet even when the outside power is off.

We don't really have this problem except during storms and on very hot summer days. Hopefully we'll start using renewable sources of energy more and more though as the oil isn't going to last forever.

You would be SMUD and we are PG&E, maybe we don't have the same programs. But right off the top of my head, I'm not sure what we have. We did look into solar panels for the house, but we just can't afford them right now. My mother-in-law has PG&E also and they came out to her house and went through it and told her all the ways that she could save energy. Guess we could do that too...

I see from your profile you're in El Dorado Hills; I'm in Sacramento. Do you have the Greenergy program or something similar there? The Greenergy program offsets the power used by a home or business by purchasing electricity from renewable sources -- mostly wind and some solar here in California -- on a watt-for-watt basis. The program costs $3 per month to offset half your home's monthly electric consumption or $6 per month to offset the whole thing. Personally, I'm willing (and, thank goodness, able) to spend a bit more to encourage renewable energy development.

I was reading about a California (?) based company that was installing Solar systems, and instead of You having to buy them outright with all that initial expense, they'd lease them to You..so they'd pick up any renewable energy installation grant money from the Government, install your system, maintain and upgrade it over time for you as long as you kept the lease..they seem to be doing quite well with business last I heard!

If it's the same time everyday you can work around it but if it just shows up without warning it would be very difficult to get much done. In the states we are so dependent upon our power supply that not much can be done without it. Hope things improve for you.

I am sorry to hear that India is facing a power crisis. Thankfully, we do not have that problem where I live here in Texas. Our power may go off a couple times a month, but I think it is some sort of test. It only stays off for a minute or so. I don't know what I would do with no power for 8 - 12 hours. That must be hard to deal with.

i also live in india but at my place(mumbai) there is hardly shortage of electricity..i consider myself lucky for that but i sometimes think that atleast for half an hour or 1 ,there should be a power cut here(which we can bear here) so that this electricity can be transferred to a place where there is major problems.WHAT DO U THINK ABOUT THAT?

Hello my friend Ganesh44 Ji, Power cut is order of the day. This is the result of bad planning. But I fail to understand, when some VIP is available in area, how it is managed 24 hrs. In my area also, it is same thing. It is step otehrly treatment with State HQs, Capitol regions, as if other cities have no citizenship. But on records tehre was a power cut in developed Nation like US, it might be seldom, but irt was. Let's counsel ourselves to live without power, so when it comes, it is a boon from Almighty. May God bless You and have a great time.

Hello Ganesh, here in Hyderabad, we are facing 3 hours of power cut, the officers say there is power theft by unauthorised users, they use hooks for this purpose, i wonder how they save power by these power cuts, more over there are corrupted officials who help in this theft Happy posting, cheers Professor here
