the world is getting smaller because of mobile phones and internet. wherever you are, you can see many people equipped with mobile phones. as you take the mobile phone with you, it is easy to find you. we find that our children enjoy mobile phones too especially during break time. but many teachers are complaining that these children are coming out so much addicted to the technology and does not focus much on their academics. and while the mobile phone provide convenience it causes trouble as well. untimely ringing in the classroom interrupts lectures and destroys the atmosphere of study. the same in offices especially during meetings. sometimes, silencing still would not help because the tendency is, the person still looks who called or texted. so people who owns this gadgets should know how to integrate it properly in each their lives. does any complaint from teachers come because of mobile phones? any comment dear parents? ann

Coins always have two sides. refering the side effect of cellphone, you can watch a Chinese movie named "Cell Phone" produced in 2005. But it is not about how rings disturd the class rules. This movie shows you it is also too terrible when neccessary ditance between people is shortened bt mobile phones.

Mobile phones are so convenient nowadays. I remember the time that I have to run to a payphone in an emergency only to find that somebody is using it. Although it has its advantages, it has its downside as well. Children are using more and more mobile instead of studying. Stricter rules has to be implemented by the school and parents should also cooperate in providing ground rules on celfone usage in and out of the house/school.

hello atv818, we probably had the same experiences with regards to communication technology of the past. only thing that everyone needs now is respect and it is the same with technology. cooperation and discipline should go together for a pleasant use of this wonderful gift of mankind. ann

When I was teaching in Thailand, I would write a list of 'classroom rules' on the board, and the mobile phone was high on the list. Then for the first few lessons I would remind students of the rule, as some would forget. I didn't have many occassions where a mobile rang, but there was always the odd one. It is very distracting for a class, as it breaks the whole class's concentration.

dear mike, reason why there are rules is to have discipline so as not to abuse a situation or a thing. thank you so much for your response. ann

It is not because of technology. New technology is always good. It depends on the person who is using it. If he uses it for good or bad. I my college mobile phones were supposed to be switched off and any one caught using phone in the classroom his phone is taken away by the teacher...

Technology has its advantages and sad to say has its disadvantages too. We have to adjust to the changing times. Some values of life has been lost , simple things became so complicated, u know like addition and multiplication. And our capacity to save things effectively in our brain has lessened. So just imagine how it would be 20years from now, maybe even saying iloveyou doesn't need to be said.

dear lipstick, that will be the saddest part on this earth, the thought of the "no fad" like i love you is no longer a thing of the present because technology has a much newer way of expressing it. oh boy! so sad. ann

Well, even with technology there are still certain inconveniences that it brings. Sometimes privacy is breech, the solemnity of a occasion would be disrupted all because of technology around us.. I think it would be best to have some etiquette in using technology.. Mobile phones is one of the modern day technology that's being abused by people of all ages. We can use this in appropriate times and we need to learn how to discipline ourselves. One mobile phone maker has a word for it.. its called Phonetics..

dear ian, for every good, there is always a bad counterpart. what is needed is the right way of using. never abuse something that is good or will will result to something you will not like. thank you for your response. ann

Hi ann, the principal of my grand daughters school has the opinion that the kids be provided with a cell phone, to contact the parents, say when the school bus is late or there is some problem, they should be given some emergency numbers... but they must not give their cell phone to any body.. many crimes are now done with cell phones... Thanks for this nice discussion. Bhuwan

dear professor, i am happy that there are school heads who are open minded when it comes to technologies. i guess, that every parent's purpose why they give cellphones to their children is to find out where they are and make sure that everything is fine with the child. i agree that the children should be responsible with their cellphones and be very careful with it. happy my lotting. ann
