Do you read more for enjoyment, or learning?

I think I read more for learning. However, since I am a teacher by profession and nature, learning is enjoyable for me! When I was in school I mostly read only to get through school. But now that I am out I read because I like reading and I like learning. How about you?

I read more for enjoyment and learning.... I am going to school right now so I like reading about things dealing with my new degree but could do without the general studies crap. I like reading books when traveling and going fishing with my husband.. As you can get from this I do not do much fishing just watching and reading.

I enjoyed reading in my degree field as well. I had to shovel through a lot of the stuff I didn't really enjoy too! It's good that I am a fast reader. I could take my time on the things I really enjoyed and go faster through the items that just had to be read!

I read for learning but enjoyment comes itself when I am reading. It is hard for me now to define why am I read now. I enjoy reading and learn from it Or I read to enjoy and learn from it.

Rightly said that enjoyment and learning is complementary to each other in learning. And I enjoy reading.

I do both. I like reading some fiction, but I also like to learn stuff. I usually will be reading at least 2 books at once, usually 1 fiction and 1 non fiction. Since I do a lot of online writing I do a lot of research and I do a lot of that by reading books, it helps to give me article ideas, and helps me learn how to do things properly. But I still need a little bit of escape so I still like to read my fiction books too. Mostly mysteries or thrillers.

That seems to me like a very well balanced reader! (and writer!) I think to be a good writer it just makes sense that one would be a good reader as well. Same thing with teachers, it takes a good learner to make a good teacher!

Learning, that is what I read for. I don't just read books for enjoyment or because I am bored. If you see me with a book I am reading for some kind of instructions or information. Now-a-days you can find anything on the internet. So when I am on the internet, I am reading for learning too. I do a lot of research on the internet. It is amazing what you can find. Most of the info I find I do print it out because the computer may become disable.

In general I probably agree with you. Most of my interest in reading stems from needing information about a topic. However, i do have a couple of authors that I venture outside those bounds for!

I mostly read for learning. Sometimes to relax I do read for enjoyment, though. But then reading for mere enjoyment is few and far between. For me to read fiction it must be highly recommended by many people before I really setmy eyes on it. Or it must be a classic in its genre.

Oh how I remember getting to read just to relax! Wow, that hasn't happened in a long time! I am hoping to find some time real soon though!

at school i've read several books for learning purposes and i find it tiring and that i wish i can finish reading it already. but reading entertainment books are so much fun that educational once, i dont know why. but maybe because educational bnooks are written so formally that its monotonic (not that it has tunes) format bores you at the almost after you read the 1st line.

You are right about that. Even in other genres if the material is meant to teach it is much more personal. That all helps too!

I read more for enjoyment then anything else. A book will take me away to a beautiful country or a different adventure each and every time. Even reading a book for enjoyment you can learn things from them.

That's one of the best things about reading! IT's a great escape! I also like to read to get information too though! I love learning, but I enjoy reading for pleasure as well!

Good topic ! I seldom read for enjoyment but for learning. I always feel time limited, so I am eager to learn more from reading. The benefits of reading is numerous that I do not need to list here. While I am learning from reading, the enjoyment natually follows immediately because I feel excited when I learn something new.

I am with you on that one! I understand not having the time to read. That is one of my greatest challenges right now too. I do enjoy learning too so that makes reading almost anything enjoyable!

Well, since I am still studying in university, most of my reading is done for revision and such, so it's mainly learning I guess. However, I still find the time to read for enjoyment, because I have always really been keen on English and literature.

I didn't make a lot of time to read extra stuff when I was still in university. I did during my breaks though. That's when I'd read two or three books at least. Although I am almost always working on something!

I would have to say both. I'm an avid reader. I love reading and I love learning. It serves as an escape for me. Words come alive for me. That's the only way to describe it.

That's awesome. It helps me that I am a very visual person so it really "comes alive" like you said! I actually see what I am reading!

For me, all the things in this world are for learning. Even if it looks funny, childish, or even how unimportant the thing is. Similar to reading. Maybe there are some kind of reading that meant to be for enjoyment, but inside it there always be a lesson. I often read, and I read almost everything, from enjoyment to formal education.

It is true that just about everything is for learning. We usually learn things even from movies or other events that occur! IT's all about filling our head with information that we can use later!

I read because I enjoy it. It is an very relaxing thing to do. I prefer sci-fi and action novels. But i also read other kinds of books. My favorite author is Issac Asimov.

I haven't read any of Issac Asimov's works. I don't usually read those types of books. I probably read more to learn. But I enjoy that!

Learning is faith, learning should be habit. We all know the truth :nobody can know sth if they have't learning . no pains no gains. Everybody should be modest and recognize flaws about themself. So,they work on it and learning and reading and communicating. If you have sth diffrent about my point .i will glad to know about yours.

It is true that through reading we can correct flaws we find in ourselves. But it matters what you read then. I wouldn't want to make corrections and be worse than I was before I realized the flaw!!

I read more for enjoyment - learning is just a plus. Reading lets me get away from the real world for a bit so I can de-stress and relax until I have to face whatever is going on in my life at that moment.

I love to read for enjoyment. I love getting lost in a book and its writing. If I learn something through the process, great. If not, that's okay too.

I read for enjoyment, but I think I read more often for the purpose of learning! But that's not bad since I enjoy learning too!
