"Black" humor

Well, I've recently started a few discussions about funerals and memorials. That brings to mind one I helped arrange. I went by the funeral home to start the arrangements (and get the lay of the land) before taking the former roommate over (looking for obstacles to lay up a wheel chair.) I was standing out front with the good looking young man who was helping me. I looked up at the highway over pass that seemed to be right over head. "Do you ever worry about... drive thru customers?" I asked. He looked up too, a worried look crossed his face. "I never have... before," he said, as if now he might start. Are you like me and sometimes find humor in the strangest places?

LOL my grandfather used to work for a cemetary..the guy that took it over from him had to deal with a car that had careened into and through a parimeter fence, knocking down several headstones. his comment? "i guess they were in a hurry to get in"

There is a cemetery right next to a highway in town and its about a 15 foot drop from the exit ramp to the graveyard. I've always kind of wondered if its even been breached - you can tell I have too much time on my hands!!!

Once a coffin fell off of a hearse As they loaded it on in reverse. The driver then cried As he silently sighed "This is something we'll have to rehearse". A Dawn original...

I am fond of black humour. I especially like the story of the man who was cremated and as the coffin disappeared the organist struck up "Smoke gets in your eyes"!

When I do,nobody else gets it, and I find that I've insulted someone. So I just smile and let people think I'm a little on the stupid side. I've been told that it's better to do that than to open my mouth and remove all doubt.

When ever I've been in hospital I often make jokes, much to the bemusement of those around me and the nurses as usually most people are kind of nervous when they have an op yet I'm making jokes such as asking them to make sure they mark exactly the right place to operate as I don't need a vasectamy just yet. Don't know whether it's humour sparked on by nervousness or that I am so use to hospitals these days that in a very strange way I find them relaxing. The good thing is that often other patients have thanked me for making light of being in hospital as it helped them to stop being nervous.

Hello, Elic. Yes, I really like black humour. A good friend of ours has lost two wives to cancer, and we were chatting recently. He was feeling a bit sorry for himself, which is unlike him, and he said, 'The worst thing is being on my own, but I've had two wives I loved, so I shouldn't complain.' I came back with: 'That's just as well, because you're not going to get a third, unless you offer danger money!' I did wonder for a second whether I'd overstepped the mark there, but he burst out laughing, and his blue mood was over in seconds. Obviously, you can only joke like this with people you know really well.

Oh yeah, sometimes finding humor in places like this is a way to cope with situations like this. It's a way of protecting one's self so to put themselves and others at ease. I do try to find humor in the darkest of places too.

Um....do the words "Sorry, you just missed her," ring any bells? Maggiepie "GIVE US THIS DAY OUR DAILY LIE...."

That is funny! I think you need to see the funny side of most things even tragic ones sometimes! Life can be difficult and if we can’t have a laugh at the things that happen or can happen where would we be? I would have liked to have seen the look on the young man’s face; I’m not sure which is funnier, your comment or his reaction to it!

I have found a little dark humor from time to time. I usually don't share though. I am notorious for sticking my foot in my mouth.

I have and quite a few people think I have a sick sense of humor. I have a habit of laughing even when I don't think something is funny. It is just a nervous reaction.. Between that and my sick sinse of humor I am misunderstood a lot!
