how many big hard looking men have you met who get all googly eyed over furries or squeaks? it is especially common in very young men who try to look all macho, then you see the disturbing truth. many try to disguise it by focusing on dogs, not realising that getting all sentimental over a large furry is no different to doing this over little furries. no criticism intended, i think this is a very nice characteristic and i have met plenty like this. there was the one i went out with who did look very tough, until you asked him about his pet husky. then there was the flatmate who got into endless fights. he came with me once when i was collecting animals from the rescue centre, and after seeing all the rabbits decided he was definitely going to get a house rabbit. and several others. all nice men. so have you ever seen anything surprising behing a macho persona?

I expect it. Guys who don't like animals have no place in my life! :-)

That's me Six foot four, 200 lb and I used to walk around in an army combat jacket and steel toecapped boots. Macho had nothing to do with that, I needed to wear the boots because of my job, and the jacket was comfortable and had large useful pockets. . But I suppose that I projected a tough image. Anyway, one day, along with some work mates, I went to visit a someone who happened to have a cat with kittens and I was sitting there with two or three of these little bundles of fur crawling all over me. Of course, I'm a big cat person, so I loved having them play around on me but one of the people who I was with was impelled to say "That's a side of you that I've not seen before!" He'd just never seen past the armour before.

Neither I was working in archaeology and my pockets were full of stuff like line levels, trowels, plumb bobs, gloves and the odd stray artifact or two...

Being born "unblessed" with an oedipus complex...My Father, 6 foot, 5 inches..210 pounds (never waivered in weight) VERY MACHO...crumpled into a quivering mass, whenst in the realm of furries of all forms;horses to kitties! Somehow, I have been attracted to the Macho (oedipus)...but with the caution...ringing in my ears.."NEVER love a man, that doesn't love animals!" They may appear Macho..but you don't want the superiority complex those goes with the persona...especially thinking they are superior, to what they refer to as lower forms of life! Sorry, I took your discussion to the serious side...but it touched a nerve! Cheers!

there is a serious side and bringing it up is fine. when talking about the macho persona i am possibly talking more about young men who think they need to look and act a certain way to get respect, which is more to do with insecurity than anything. most grow out of it. men who think they are superior because erm they have lots of testosterone are idiots, especially if they stay like that their entire lives.

that is tough on the outside, tough on the inside. this and the expression hard on the outside and soft on the inside sound like descriptions of biscuits, not people...

My brother's like that. He's quite normal when he's around horses, he works with horses so maybe just as well, but when he meets small animals he gets a bit excited. Ferrets for example, or cats, or small dogs. He's quite good with animals so he can mess around with them and most of them get very excited and happy and refuse to calm down afterwards. My father on the other hand, he prefers animals fried or cooked. Then there's one of my British friends, the one with the blac-eyeliner, spiky black hair and goth clothes, and of course the dog. I think it's a very spoilt, very fluffy dog. Ditto for the cat.

my brother is like that too. he doesn't have any pets of his own but put him in the same room as a cat and instant best friends. he's same with my ratties. he also wants a rabbit but says that he doesn't think anybody would take him seriously if he had one. don't know why he is worried - nobody takes him seriously anyway.

My brother and his girlfriend (or fiance, not quite sure, she's weird and orange) have just bought a Jack Russel terrier, and as my brother is about 1.90 it'll look very, very small when he walks. But they're sure the dog will take itself seriously, even though nobody will take them seriously :-) Jack Russels are convinced they're the biggest ones around, and will happily (yappily?) attack horses, trailers and wheel barrows.

(It's pretty late, i know XD) My boyfriend is 6"2 tall, 220lbs and lean built. One time, when i came to his place, I expected to see him playing some Macho Monster Hunter in his PSP or Dante's Inferno on the PS3 but what i saw instead..... He was playing chocobo tales on the DS... my mental image of him melted like an ice crmea cone in am icrowave on a hot summer day... but i still love him for that w

Haha yes my friends dad was like that. He was a very tall man and quite weathered looking . Fierce almost to look at, but he would cry his eyes out at films and was very tearful and happy when his daughter got married. My husband is not a big hard nut although he does do Karate and police reserves but we had a house rabbit when we first got married because he had always wanted a bunny.
