I like drinking coffee. I usually drink it once a day and I used to drink it in the morning. But, then my three years old-daughter likes to have it too. she asks me to share my coffee with her. Is it good? Thanks..

No I don't think coffee is good for children. It has too much caffeine in it in my opinion. What you could do is buy coffee flavoring and add it to warm milk. Then she will be having something beneficial to her. Here is some information I found. The National Institute of Health says “a child’s caffeine consumption should be closely monitored. Although caffeine is safe to consume in moderation, it may negatively affect a child’s nutrition. Caffeinated beverages may be replacing nutrient-dense foods such as milk. A child may also eat less because caffeine acts as an appetite suppressant. Caffeine can be completely restricted in a child’s diet since there is no nutritional requirement for it. This may be necessary for a hyperactive child as caffeine is a stimulant.” Caffeine can also aggravate heart problems or nervous disorders, and children and parents might not even be aware of the risk. Since caffeine is a stimulant, it can also produce symptoms like jitters, irritability and hyperactivity. http://www.chevroncars.com/learn/food-recipes/coffee-children Hope this helps.

wow..what a great info..thanks to you mari..yeah, I know caffeine is not too good for children (actually also bad for adults). but sometimes I take the simple way: give her coffee cos she'll cry if I don't give her my coffee, from now on, maybe I'll reduce my coffee time or hide when drinking coffee so I can prevent my daughter from bad effect of caffeine as you said..thanks for sharing, mari..:)

I drink two cup of coffee a day. My three year old son too sometimes ask for a sip and I let him drink not too much, its like just wetting his lips. after I let him taste it he never ask again for another sip.. too much coffee is not good for children, just let them taste with out putting sugar so that they wont ask for it again. Happy lotting

Our 2 year old daughter usually joins my wife and I for a morning 'coffee'. Ours is real, hers is just frothed milk in an espresso cup. She loves it because she feels grown up, and we live it because there is no coffee involved for her. Here in Australia the frothed milk for kids is called a baby-chino, and is popular with parents who want to enjoy their coffee, but also involve their kids to avoid those tantrums! As long as the children get theirs at the same time as the grown-ups, they seem to be happy with their own and not want mummy or daddy's... for now anyway! As a side note, I'd avoid decaf for kids. From what I understand, and I would happily be corrected, the caffeine is removed by a chemical process which can leave residual chemical traces in the coffee. That doesn't sound appealing for adults let alone children.

Hi Humairaku, I drink at least 1 cup of coffee everyday. Not that I'm addicted to it, but I need to drink milk and I can't stand the taste of milk alone, so I have to put some coffee to give it a twist. While some recent studies say that coffee may not be that bad for children when taken in moderation, the negative effects of coffee by far outnumber the positive. So I would maintain my statement to my kids, as I always tell them, that coffee is not good for kids.

hi doryvien..nice to see you here.. ya, you're right..I can't stop drinking coffee because, you may believe it or not, it could help me going to the toilet to do throw rubbish inside my body (I mean feces..hehhe..). so I need to drink coffee to help me staying healthy..LOL..

same concern here...i don't drink coffee but whenever my 3-year old boy sees somebody in the house drinking coffee he would ask me to give him some also. what i do is i just put a very small amount of coffee and mix it together with his milk.

drinking coffe is my favorite too but we must know that it's not good to a child if they do the same continously, I think you must change the habbit of drinking coffe every morning to give a variety of ather drink like tea, fruit juice, etc and if you want to drink coffe you can go to coffe shop.

nice tips, mr..but I need to drink coffee in the morning before I have anything to eat. cos it will help me to go to the toilet (I hope you know what I mean..LOL). so if I change my habit by drinking other drinks, I'm afraid that they won't help me like the coffee did. but your idea is really good. thanks, mr..:)

My eight year old son loves coffee, he has for years. He is only allowed to have it if it is decaffeinated, then with alot of milk and a little sugar. He does not even get it all the time, maybe once a month. I do not encourage it at all with him.

I also like to drink coffee but I think it's not good for children because they can be addicted of it in very early age that's not good.
