Gabby got out when we let the dog out earlier. When she wouldn't come in, we left to do some shopping.
When we got back she was sitting outside the window.
I tried to call her, but she just sat there.
I cracked the door open and she sat there...
I was going to try and slip out and Ping ran out!!!
I started to go after Ping and NEF ran out!!!
Now, Gabby and Ping have been out before, but this was Nef's first time!
So, I went after her.
Of course she ran beside a shed so I couldn't get her...
So, I grabbed Gabby and threw her inside.
Then I went and grabbed Ping and threw him inside!
Then I went around the sheds to find Nef.
No sign of her, looked between the shed and the porch - no sign - I mean, it IS night time and she IS a black cat!!
Then, I look down and here comes this inky shadow out from UNDER the shed!
I snatch her up and head back around the sheds to go inside.
Dern that Gabby running outside! At least all the cats are safely back inside again!
You keep your cats inside? Do they try to run out like some of mine?

Hey Elic! Sounds like you need to keep a net or something! That
must be alot of exercise you get chasing those kittys! You must
have been totally exhausted after all that "cat catching"! I am
just so glad you were able to round them all up and get them
all back inside! My two boys won't go past the door to my
apartment! Star will run upstairs and I have to go get him
because he thinks going upstairs is a game! But, he would never
go near the front door to the outside! And Luna is such a wuss
when it comes to going outside! He is the dominant male of the
house, but when someone comes in he runs and hides! What a mixed
up weirdo he is! He growls like a dog and hisses at Star and
my boyfriend, but is afraid of anyone he doesn't know! Big
bad Luna! Yeah right!

I'm so glad to read that your cats are all safely inside! I know lots of people allow their cats to run free outdoors but it always worries me, there's so much danger out there. I have 7 cats and they're all inside cats. I'm lucky to have an enclosed back porch so if any of them try to get out the main door they can't get all the way outside. I don't THINK they'd really try to get out since they all seem afraid of what's out there.
My daughter has had some experiences very similar to yours. Luckily she lives in the country where there's not much traffic. One thing she's done when one of her kitties has escaped is lure them back in with a laser light. If you don't have one they sell them where the pet toys are in any grocery or department store for a couple bucks. My cats love it!

oh my g I am still laughing as I could see the comedy of the cats as they kept running outside and then your finally getting them all back inside. I never had that many cats or I would probably have had the same thing happen to me. I do love the little stinkers too. You really should write a book about your experiences with your kitties, it would really sell too. There is nothing as hard to find as a black cat at night believe
'me. we had one we called Midnight and she always managed to sneak outside and have to be found, then she would sit and sort of laugh at us as if to say I told you so, he he he.,

Yes, we keep our cat inside, and no, he doesn't try to go outside. I carried him outside once to show him to a neighbor. This is a cat that loves to be held, but he tried his best to get down so that he could get back inside. Maybe it is because the only time he gets to go outside is to go to the vet. Not sure that is the reason, though, as we always put him in the carrier to go to the vet. He hates the carrier and will go hide when he sees it. He fights getting put into the carrier. Our last cat would not go outside even if the door was left wide open. I thought that was because we got him as a kitten, but this cat was 1 1/2 years old when we got him.

I had a cat once that would shoot out like a rocket when the door was opened. All you would see was a flash when you opened the door. I hated trying to find him. If it was during the day, I didn't mind so much but I was afraid to leave him out at night. I kept a flashlight by the door he did it so much.

I felt like I needed the roomie's blind stick going behind the sheds...
and if I hadn't seen that inky ooze coming out at my feet... well, Nef's never been out, but she seemed to do very well... maybe she used to escape with her previous owners - now, at least, we don't have to worry about her getting pregnant!

My cats are indoor outdoor cats. They are free to come and go as they like. I have two blonds and an inky black one as well. The blonds are not as free to go in and out of the house in cold weather as the black one. When the weather is nice I will prop the door for them, and have had a few surprises over the years. One morning a possum came in the back door and wanted breakfast. I have had stray cats get in when I had a kitty door to t he basement. The black cat did manage to get stuck inside the shed the other night, and she was mad the next morning. They do know what to do if they get stuck outside and they have some favorite hiding places.

LOL I knew there was a reson why I only had one cat. haha Walker wants to get a kitten, but Shakti is enough of a handful, and he's 10 years old. Kittens are cute, but are we really ready to handle one?
Shakti likes to get out of the apartment (we keep him indoors) and run down to the laundry room. I've had to chase him a couple of times. LOL

You may recall that I've been keeping banjo in during the day and letting him out at night. He usually comes in in the mornings at the same time as the goats get up and I give everyone breakfast. The goats get a wheat cake each and the dogs get dry food and Banjo gets his dry food and some wet too. That's usually around 6:30am. Today, i had to go out and leave at 8:30am. Banjo was still not home and so I was in a panic. I left the sliding door open which is how he comes and goes and I was relieved to find him asleep inside when I arrived home. He's actually spending more time in than out lately. He didn't rush straight out tonight as usual but stayed asleep inside. He was out for a half hour and came back and went to sleep again. He went out again and now he's in, asleep and it's just gone 11pm. I know he prefers to go potty outside. I look forward to when that's all he's going out for and happy to come back in and have a smooch with me then go off to sleep.

mine stay in..but once in a while my older black cat decides he wants to try the great escape.which is dangerous because he has no front claws (his toes got infected before i owned him, long story)so i have to go chase his portly but speedy butt.
the other 5 seem to have no interest in going out.

When Creamcycle first came to us, I wanted to get him to a Dr. because of his bad eye. But he only showed up at night, after vet clinic hours. So after I befriended him, I put him in the basement. The next morning, I went to get him, and he was gone. He had found a way out of the basement. That there was a way out of the basement was news to us. I put him in the basement the next night and found out where it was, the basement leads to a crawl space and the crawl space leads to the back porch (this house has three porches)and the back porch has a cat flap door. So he had to scale a rock and cement wall, crawl a long ways for a cat, jump down to a cement floor, run across the back porch and go through the cat flap. Quite the exercise for a half-starved kitty with a bad eye.

Oreo likes to go out and eat grass but he doesn't run away unless we turn our backs on him. Jason likes to go out too but he won't go beyond the porch. Tiger doesn't even try, just sits by the front door. Sometimes I think maybe he's seeing Sunny's ghost or something. My cats aren't allowed out, but my husband doesn't always play by "my" rules....

That's what Gabby and Ping did (and Booboo the next night) eat grass, but Nef was going!
If there were a way to "airlock" the back door like we have the front, we'd do it, but letting the dogs in and out sometimes ends up with the escapes - Gabby I'm tired of chasing, but the others... well, we've seen Gabby hang around if she isn't chased, so a lot of times we'll not bother if it looks like the others will get out.

Oh dear! How do you keep up with everybody? I have indoor cats but there are only two of them and they are not all that interested in going outside which is amazing considering that one of them used to be an outdoor cat! I think they’ve got it too good inside! I am sure that if I left the door open long enough they would wander out but they don’t usually try to escape but as I said, I only have two! My old cat Friday got chased outside by the dog years ago ended up a tree and was unable to come down so I called the Fire Brigade who came more for a laugh than anything else! They ended up hosing him down because none of them were prepared to climb the really tall tree. Looking back it was embarrassing because the fire truck pulled out and all the neighbours came out to see where the fire was!

They were having a secret meeting... maybe they were planning a surprise for you. Do you have a birthday coming up, or some other occasion?
Harmony does go out, but she doesn't have to make a break for it. She just asks to go out, and usually, I'll open the door for her. When she wants back in, she knocks at the window. Of course, if she starts playing the in and out game, I put a stop to it after the third time. She generally stays in the yard. Sometimes she'll visit her previous home, which is on the same side of the street.

I usually have that problem with new kids. I cure them of the desire of going outside by having someone by the door and when I get the garden hose ready I give them the heads up and they open the door. The cat gets hosed and it really deters them from wanting to venture out again.
A few months ago I found Ding Ding outside. He gets outside and freezes, he has no idea of what to do. He got out when he was much younger and pulled the muscle in his left hind leg, and limped around for a few weeks. He wasn't much interested in the outside world after that; but once in a while he wiggles out and wanders around until he realizes he's outside. The last time I couldn't figure out how he got out, until I was working outside and saw Willy with his head and one front shoulder out the screen on the screen door to the patio. I raced for my camera but missed getting his pix.
I fixed the hole, but with the winds from the recent storms I have more repair work to do on the patio before I can allow the cats out there again. I'm not looking forward to getting the screens fixed, but they so love being able to get fresh air and sunshine.

LOL.. Been there, done that!
I try to keep mine in for the winter.. Otherwise they are indoor/outdoor.
But this happens to me nearly everyday. I open the door to let in the cat sitting in the window, thinking they want to come in.. they meanwhile, are having second thoughts and in that time, 2 more run out.. now I have to go outside and try to catch everyone.. What a pain in the butt sometimes. :-)

Mine stayed indoors most of the time. Only one went out and he usually stayed on the porch, and only went out if the weather was nice. He was black also and of course he wanted to go out at night in the summer. If the door was opened he would sneak out and then I couldn't find him! One of the other ones got out one time and she had never been out before and she was declawed. She hid under the shed and would not come out! It was Easter and I was supposed to be somewhere, but I didn't want to leave till I got her back inside. Needless to say she finally did come in and I was late. @kaylachan (84815)

I like to keep my cats indoors, but sometimes that doesn't always work. We had a cat named Little bit. He was always running out even though he knew he shouldn't it didn't stop him though. I kind of thought it was funny he would do that. crazy cats. If I open the door long enough, and don't pay attention, precious will look around it, but he knows better then to go out without George me or his leash.
