What's Wrong with America? Why are Women and Girls Throwing Away Newborns?

It seems like I hear it every day on the news. A 2 year old found abandoned in her carseat in Long Beach, California. A newborn baby thrown away in Wisconsin. Across America, Safe Haven for Newborns is in 47 states, and the other 3 states have legislation pending to save the lives of newborns by providing a safe, no-questions-asked designated drop off spot for babies 72 hrs or younger by mothers or other legal guardian. Why are babies thrown away?

There are probably all the excuses in the damn world about why these idiots do this. But in my eyes there is no reason for a child to be abandoned. They didnt ask to be born. Now for years I have said it should be mandatroy to streilise all girls until they can pass a parenting test and.or PROVE they will nuture and love this poor little child. We have the technology... why cant we do it?

I feel the only time women should be sterilized is if they have multiple children, are on welfare, and show no signs of ever getting off of it. I'm talking about the women who keep having the babies but expect others to pay for it.

I have been pregnant 4 times within the last 4 yrs. I m/c my first in '04. I had a healthy son in Sept '05. I had a beautiful, girl, who is still recovering from intestinal surgery in Aug '06. And I'm due again in July '07. I ASKED for my tubes to be tied, but was turned down. I am a good mother, but needed help from Medicaid to help with medical assistance. After the birth of my daughter & her medical complictions I didn't want to add another child & end up emotionally neglecting my son & another child due to my daughters needs. But I have managed to balance life between my son & my daughter as best as can be expected (she is still in the hospital an hour & a half away) & I'm sue I'll adjust even more by the time this next blessing arrives. And hopefully I'll get to have my tubes tied this year (I had my 21st birthday since the birth of my daughter :) ).

It's not just America I'm afraid...It's a really saddening issue and it happens because the girls/women are either ignorant or plain irresponsible..A few years ago here in Singapore, a newborn was abandoned in an elevator lobby..

Yes, many cultures around the world have this problem, and in some countries it is even worse, because although it is legally unacceptable, female infanticide is culturally accepted in many countries. Its a big problem.

There are also some government policies in certain countries that limit the allowable headcount a family may have for children and officials kill any past the government-set limit. This same country also still requires a lot of manual labour and, sadly, women are not in favour hence there is a lot of infanticide going on until a family gets their so-badly-desired X chromosome child. Furthermore the polciy encourages the activity by densisitizing the parents to the murder (well THEY'll kill them anyways so maybe we'll just have at it with the clothes hanger and save them the trouble) they are committing.

I feel there are young women/men out there who aren't ready to be parents for one reason or another. I wish they all knew about the options available in most states here in the US. I'm not familiar with laws in other countries. There are so many couples that want children and can't have them. It makes me sick when I hear of parents killing their children. I'd like to see them serving life sentences.

It breaks my heart to hear these stories. I have been blessed with 4 beautifull children and I would NEVER consider justthrowing any one of them away like trash. These so called mothers dont realise how many people in this world want to have a baby and cant. Fear plays a real huge roll in them deciding to get rid of the baby. They dont realise that there are the safe havens and that NO ONE will ask any questions if you just tell them that you want to drop the baby off because you are not ready or cant handle the responsibility. The problem is it is teenagers who are doing this and they are not educated that there are safe havens. My oldest daughter is only 7 right now but when she hits puberty and starts her period I plan on covering all my bases and making shure she knows that for 1 she can tell me anything and for 2 that if she gets pregnant that we will work it out no matter what.

The outrageous thing about it happening in America, is that there are resources available to prevent this from happening...safe designated places to relinquish children, and social service programs to relinquish children...

It's called the Baby Moses Law(Act) here in Texas. You can drop them off at fire stations, police stations, etc. To answer your question, I don't know why women choose to just up and leave their newborns in dumpsters and places like that. For girls, I can understand why they would do it. I don't encourage it at all but I would understand why a girl(child)would make that decision. After all they are just a child themselves. I just wish more females were more aware of the Baby Moses Act and drop their newborns off in safe hands if they don't want them. And unfortunately things like this aren't only happening in America, I hear stories about abandoned babies in other countries as well. I heard that it happens alot in some Asian countries too.:(

Yes, it is a global problem. Hopefully discussions like this will help spread the word about each state's own safe haven for newborn program. 47 states have laws, 3 states have laws pending. Maybe girls will at least drop off babies even if they hide pregnancies.

Personally I believe a woman is either possessed or just doesnt have a heart if she can do this. This is the MOST selfish act besides abortion. Yeah I would like to know why they dont drop them off. Maybe shame? Who knows. God knows all things. Judgement will come.

Yes, it was Melissa. I forget her last name - but she was a scumbag. I never talked to her in school. It would be interesting to see what is going on in her life now. At the time, students were outside her house screaming & holding up signs to protest her action.

Your school! Wow! Yes, I remember her...she gave birth in the bathroom during her prom, then threw out her baby, then went back to the dance! How does someone do that? Wasn't her name Melinda, or Melissa?

It sickens me when I hear about this. We have change the law so that the women/girls how have babys and do not want them can give them to a good home. Thier are so many people who would love to have children and can not and then thier are those girls that thrown thier babys away. I agree I think they should be put in prison for the rest of thier lives.

There are laws in 47 states where a baby may be safely surrendered with no questions asked...3 states have this legislation pending. Its called Safe Haven for Newborns, but there's trouble getting the word out, and trouble getting people to cooperate...

I don't know what's going on. It hurt me like hell though. We've been trying for almost 4 years to have another baby, and here people are, just throwing them out like trash. It breaks my heart.

I agree with you aleedon, I am trying to have my first baby and it pains me that people can get pregnant when they don't even want the baby and then they think they can just dispose of it and forget about it like it was nothing!

Most of it comes down to parents being involved in their kids lives. You have to communicate with your kids and get involved in their interests. Teach them and let them learn from you. I know it isn't ALL the parents fault. Girls are getting more and more promiscuos at even younger ages nowadays and they need to be educated properly. Dont just send them to school and hope they learn the right thing.

Being involved in kids' lives is the one thing a young woman who killed her newborn said all parents must do. She said she could've told her mom any time, and chose not to. She hid her pregnancy, her mom never noticed.

it is really sad to read...the mankind are getting stonehearted and he/she losts their human nature and beocoming animals...i am wondering is this a cultural development ? or is it a going back to our primitive state of that monkey mind?

It's just the way the world is getting. The Bible mentions how the world will get worse and worse as time goes on. People have strayed away from God and they are becoming more and more evil. It comforts me to know that those little babies are in Heaven now and are better off than they ever would have been here on Earth.

That is a very good question. Now those of you who know me know I am as against abortion as they come, but why in a nation where you can get an abortion easier than stitches are women doing this? That's what I don't get. Not saying I want them to have abortion, of course, just saying.
@birthlady (5609)

Yes, abortion is easier to obtain than the effort taken to hide pregnancy, give birth in secrecy, and throw a baby away. I don't understand why a female would go through pregnancy and birthing without safely surrendering the baby if its unwanted.

i dont believe in abortion at all but why dont they have one or give it up for adoption or leave the baby at the church. Damn this just makes me sick.
