The work soap opera continues for my husband. Do you have a soap opera at work?

The continuing saga of when will he be laid off from work? To catch you up on the situation: First, he was supposed to loose his job Feb 26th (this Friday). Then they thought they were going faster than deadline, so he would be let go Feb. 19 (last Friday). But then, they decided they were not going faster and maybe had laid-off more people than they originally should have. So back to the original Feb. 26th date. He's still working their this week, so obviously, the Feb. 19 has gone by and not the end of his job. Second, since the deadline of the subway cars, two level ones, is mid-March, they decided they needed him until mid-March. They were going to let him go after the single-levels were done, but they decided they needed him to help with the two-levels. Third, now they're saying they have to lay everyone off according to their original date-Feb. 26th- because of COBRA. COBRA, for people who don't know, is the insurance you get when laid off. If they change the date, people won't get their insurance. But my husband doesn't get his insurance through his job. He's a veteran and he gets his through the military. He pays it every month separately; it's not through his job/paycheck. So he tried to find who(m) to talk to about that yesterday. He spoke to someone who was supposed to see about not letting him go. That person is supposed to go help him stay there until mid-March. I hope he does do that. I've been praying that he can keep his job until spring, after all the heating bills have been taken care of (the extra electric, the fuel oil, etc.). Then get his job back in the fall just before the heating bills start. So what's your soap opera? If you don't have a current one, did you have one in the past? Can you see one "brewing" in the near future? Thank you to all who have been praying that my husband keep his job for as long as possible. I'm sure there are others out there praying to keep their jobs or that loved ones keep their jobs. Thank you and take care.

this is the rough time of year for bills, but ours are on level pay. I deliberately left my job during medical leave, because the stress was really hurting me. We have some resources and so will be good for a month or so. I am working freelance and some other minimum wage work. My foot is still a problem with too much full time active work. What got to me about my job was that we were constantly short handed, and they said people were not applying or passing screening and background check. If so many people are out of work, there should have been a good supply of employees. Pay is the same as flipping burgers, but the job is more fun. I began to seriously doubt the intelligence and concern of HR and management when I saw various programs go understaffed for as much as a full year. I voiced my concerns to someone who said they would have someone from the stated look into it. When I had to work 26 hours in two days time, it was my final straw. That is the only soap opera I was aware of with my job.

I did not get overtime, but in our company they cannot pay anyone to work for 24 hours straight. It takes a manual override. I know of two instances where they did have to do that. Actually, one year ago, during a blizzard one of my staff worked a different program, got snowed in there, and someone was in the connected half of the duplex. The girls there took turns sleeping. That was an exception circumstances, though. By the way, they are still "checking up" on me. They still want me to come back in some way or another.

I tried to just be there part-time. It started out great and ended up nuts again. I was told to only work overtime with permission. So when someone called I told them it would be overtime and they were screaming, " Get to ________ over here, we're rolling around on the floor with a violent client." I had been ordered to tell anyone who called once I hit 40 hours and I was part-time. I had to quit. Just so many times I can get yelled at by the accountant.

I think that is pretty normal in that kind of work. My last straw when I worked that kind of work was 24 hours in one day. They are always saying that you can't leave until relief staff shows up, but I worked the residences on weekends and if people wanted to do something else that weekend, they wouldn't show up. After working 24 hours straight (and they wouldn't let me do a sleep-over they made me do a stay-awake), they wanted me to drive the clients into work. I told them I was walking home, I wasn't driving me home! Then the accountant called me in and started yelling at me that I have 60 or more hour weeks and who did I think was paying the overtime? I ended up quitting because it was ridiculous.

You are in my prayers. I hope that things turn out for good for your husband's work situation. A bit of luck, a change of wind, or generosity or God knows what. It seems the recession has hit everybody in the whole world. My wife works for a top international bank. Though it was not hit hard as other banks, it still has been hit and profits has declined. This means that they are doing their utmost to reduce their loss in profit for the next year. Most of the work being done here in my country is being done in India. She was already in two departments which closed down and the work is being done by the same bank in India. Obviously salaries are much lower than in Malta. Now she is facing the same situation. They have received the news that the current section she works in will close down in the next months. Will they shift her to another department? Will they give her a golden hand shake and a fat cheque or will they sack her? God only knows what is going to happen.

Wow! Two departments and now a third.I will pray for her, too. I hope she's able to transfer. That sounds like a soap opera, too, for sure. One really never knows from one day to the next. Yes, In America, we have lost many jobs to India, too, for the same reasons. Thank you for responding. Thank you very much for your prayers, I will pray for her and her job, too. Take care

There is always a soap opera of sorts at work. I try to stay out of them as much as possible..lol...makes my life easier that way. I guess the most recent soap opera is who's getting promoted and what type of changes are being implemented within the company. There have been a lot of changes and they just keep coming. I hope your husband gets to keep his job. I know how those heating bills are. Mine has been nuts the past couple of months. Take care and I'll say a prayer ot two for you too.

Yes, every job seems to have a soap opera. I'm surprised I didn't get a hundred responses. I was hoping for some juicy stuff, too. Ha, ha. Now they're saying March 19th. But every week they'll change their minds. Less, more, same, less days, more days, the same, etc. We're using half the fuel, but it costs almost twice as much. I'm glad we made our home more efficient, I can't imagine what the bills would be at these prices. Promotions and changes, those can be interesting. Thank you for prayers, I hope your pro and chan'es aren't too interesting. Take care

I hope and pray your husband does not lose his job. Trying to find a job when there are no jobs to be had is quite frustrating. I have not worked it will be two years in May. I have worked 32 years of my life but to not have a job now for this length of time is killing me. I just hope if I could sell my house I will be able to moove to be with my boyfriend in Puerto Rico. This is my soap opera that is going on in my house at this time.

Thank you. I will pray you can sell your home for a fair price. Here, getting someone to buy a home is difficult and for a fair price is hard, too. Then I hope you do well in P. R. with him. Thank you for your hopes and prayers.

I hope and pray things work out for your hubby to not lose his job. It does sound like his superiors like him because they have not let him go yet. Let us hope they have the authority to decide if the company can keep him on.
