A Trip Down Memory Lane

Do you ever flick back and look at long passed discussions started by people that you didn't know and who are no longer active if have accounts here at all? I never cease to be amazed at how few people I actually know here. There are hundreds who beaver away at times of the day and night when I am otherwise occupied. Sometimes I surprise myself and discover that I actually responded to a discussion now long forgotten. Am I alone in this pastime?

Beaver away? I could stay here forever just to pick up new expressions. I was just over on the no responses tab replying to the silly four year old discussions. Didn't recognize a single person. Sometimes I will go to a friend's profile, see a discussion I don't recognize, reply to it, and then when it doesn't ask me for a tag I realize that I already did.

I looked at some of those too. I responded to one yesterday but as the OP hasn't been here for about two years I doubt that I'll get a response. I'm pleased to have introduced you to another expression. LOL.

you are not alone, p1ke. sometimes i do this with my friends' but not too much with not a friend. i just actually did it last night with one of my new friends. some kinda tiring to the eyes, most of the discussions there are really long and winding.

I know what you mean. Long discussion posts can be very trying at times - especially at night.

if i'm not gonna do anything, i do check my past discussions and my other posts too. i'm just surprised to see that i've been a member here for quite some time now. :) and looking back, i realize that i'm not an active member, with quite few posts every now and then.

Feel free to join in the fun. If you don't participate it's a very lonely place.

Hey p1key! No, you are not alone! We have lost many of our friends along the way! Alot of them have gone to Facebook for one! I have no interest in that particular site, but I do know for a fact that that is where we can find some of our long lost friends! And, yes I do miss some of them very much! It has been almost two years now that I have been here and there are quite a few people who have moved on from here and I am very sad! We all used to have so much fun, well into the evening hours! But, they are not forgotten because we still remember them!

I started a Facebook account just so that I could keep up with myLotters past and present. There are few "old" faces there but increasingly I don't know who is who! LOL. I know that several there left here because of the activities of trolls. Hopefully we have seen the back of that type of activity now. Fingers crossed.

Yeah, I have done this and actually responded to discussions that were 3 years old. I was hoping to resurrect the discussions, but I guess the members had long gone and no longer received email notifications. I am also amazed at how many active people I do not know here. Every day I seem to read a comment by someone with a big number next to their name that I have never seen before!

Me too. There are lots of little groups, circles of friends perhaps, who I never get to know. I guess that we all gravitate to one person or group.

No, my life is just as sad. I've even looked at some of my old discussions and wondered why I didn't remember writing them.

No, you are not the only one. I am sure many of us who have been around here a while can remember some of the people who are long since gone, and then could find discussions we responded back too from people who we may have never known well as well. Go thru your friends every couple of months and it will surprise you to see how many are no longer here or active for sure. I guess that's what keeps this site interesting is all the New people who come in here all the time we can get to know better as well.

Variety is the spice of life they say. There are many that I regret are no longer here and a few who I am delighted to see have taken their place.

ya know, I think some of us do that just because the discussion is so interesting and we HOPE the person will come back just because their discussion was responded to

That's a point. I wonder if they do ever come back. There's one woman that hasn't been on for over a year, but she still logs in most weeks.

I'm a cruiser and I go all over the place. It makes no difference whether users are on my friend list or not, if I see something interesting, old or new, then Iland on it and often theyare older discussions. I have gone back to the first discussions on profiles too and given some users a pleasant surprise. I also have awarded BRs on some of my ancient discussions and had users wwho were no longer active who returned just to acknowledge them. I am also aware of some Lotters who no longer post but have certain notifiers on and if I give a buzz they appear after months of being absent I have some very old discussions book-marked because they are interesting and I watch the new responses on them too. I think I 'know' a heck of a lot of folks on here, some very well and obviously some less

'Maybe if people took the time to understand how this site works, and the best way to do that is to participate, then fewer would wander off.' Many can't find time to read the responses on their own discussions and yet we expect them to read how myLot works? It is so sad though because they are missing out on so much and it is certainly nothing like hard work - indeed no 'work' is needed whatsoever when you're having fun!

I know a fair few but inevitably some much better than others. I have always liked the fact that myLot has been "benignly" admined. However, I am enjoying the fact that Alice is starting to appear in discussions and not just to wag a finger. Maybe if people took the time to understand how this site works, and the best way to do that is to participate, then fewer would wander off.

Hello, Pikey. I think we all do that when we look at the 'similar discussions' on the right. I've found ones I've forgotten about - probably from the very early days when I was just feeling my feet and pouncing on every discussion like a frisky little puppy. I think it's a shame that some people are no longer active, but we don't know their circumstances, do we? I have noticed lately though that people are saying 'I'm back,' and people like Lamb, Dawn and Mysd are really pleased to see them, so that gives me the nod that we have someone whom we may not know, but who may be worth getting to know if our discerning friends are happy to see them back.

There comes a time when you start to recognise the "I'm back" folk Sandra and you realise just how long you've been around. There are some who say that having been away for 48 hours, but when it's a year or so........ Of course many former myLotters are still around and we meet elsewhere. But there are some that have just disappeared and I often wonder where so and so is. But onwards and upwards, every new person is a new adventure, some good and a few not so.

Yes, as you say, every new person is a potential friend. I haven't quite been here a year yet, so I'm a youngster in MyLot terms.

Sometimes I do that, though it's really seldom. I just do that if I can't find anymore discussions that I want to respond to, then I would go to the old discussions. Hehehe. there was one time when mylot was going whack and you can't really answer to any of the new discussions. So I went back to old discussions that I have not commented on, and I went back as far as 3 years ago.

Well, I am responding to discussions that you wrote 6 months ago. I so need to catch up I have about almost 2,000 emails in my inbox from Mylot alone. I went through them and deleted a bunch of those that have quit or have deleted their accounts because I wasn't sure if we would still get paid for those who had deleted accounts. I had alot of Mykl's from several of his different accounts..

hi pikey you know one of these days just for fun I am going to be first to answerlol. yes I have gone back and read some of them too, and wondered where this ditsy scottish lady went, I really got such a charge out of her discussions, you and her were always on the top of my must read discussions list. I have found some old ones I responded to when I was so excited about that friend who turned out to be a traitor who was going to help us move to Antioch. but time heals most things but I will not search out more from that era as its still too painful.there are so very many new ones here now I do not know and so few on my large friends list whom were really here when I first came here. I have also read some old discussions from ones I never knew at all and wondered why they were not here now. guess it takes a little moxie to stay here.

I don't think you are alone in your pasttime P1key and certainly not from where I stand as I also look back on old posts sometimes and many times remember them very well, especially if they have fond memories that go along with them...such as the one where I first met you and Everyone was raving about how great P1key was. Who is this person, me thought, so of course I had to try to get to know you a little bit to see just what the great appeal was that you had...it didn't take me long to find out!! ;) I do wish I had the link to the post but unfortunately that was in another lifetime and another account that I once had here!
