I have a colleague whom I always forget her name. Her name is Vicky but for some reason or another I always call her Vanessa. It seems that I have programmed my mind to call her Vanessa. And despite that I greet her each morning, calling her Vanessa, her replies never Change. “My name is not Vanessa but Vicky”. She takes things with a pinch of salt. It happens to me with students as well. In my school, sometimes I teach brothers of past students. What happens to me is that I associate the past’s students name with the present student’s face. I always manage to call my students with their brothers name and sometimes this irk them a little bit. Does this happen to you that you forget a person’s name?

Oh my gosh! I have done the same thing for years, so do not feel bad. Because in one day I may teach close to 200 different students, it happens quite a bit. You need to program your head. Think of a model, actress or singer, like Vanessa Williams, Vanessa Redgrave, and put her face (in your mind) to hers. Every time you see her think of that person. It will work.

Point taken. I am looking at her face and trying to spell out her name like a mantra. I hope I get it right finally!

Yes, it happens to me sometimes. I had a class where Mr. Black was white, Mr. Brown was black, and Mr. White was brown. All three gave me a headache. Maybe she looks like a Vanessa to you. People think I look more like my middle name than my first name, so I get called by that a lot.

If I do that ....they would think I am homosexual ( I teach in boys secondary school) and most probably I would be reported for molestation ! Lucky you!

Likewise. I will never forget a face but I am horrible at remembering names.... Sometimes I call my son with my brother's name and vice versa LOL

Oh my goodness! This happens to me ALL the time..lol. People always want to call me Vanessa, when my name is actually Venus. I was in a tax class recently and the lady running kept calling me Vanessa even though I and everyone else reminded her of my real name...after about the 5th time we just made a joke out of it and she called me Vanessa for the rest of the day...LOL

haha =D This is not something normal anymore!! Imagine yourself getting home and calling your wife another name?? How will she react to that?? lol =D It's something u have to change before things gets worse, and u are a teacher, which makes u even more vulernable to such mistakes when your students decide to skip classes.. haha =D

Dear Kun, If I do that its better to prepare a small room for me...cos my wife would kill me! I would also accept your dog's kennel as a shelter for the night!

I am sure that has to be awkward when you call her by the wrong name all the time and I am sure she probably gets tired of it,and wants to slap you sometimes and I am usually good with names,so I usually do not forget a name unless it is someone I have only met a couple times,or have never met but only talked to,but there is a guy I work with at Wal Mart named Demsie and for some reason he has it in his head that I am Craig which I am not,and Craig is another cart pusher, and whenever he sees me he always says hey Craig,I do not want to hurt his feelings or make him feel bad so I just play along, because it does not hurt anything to pretend to be Craig, and I think Craig has been called Jon before lol.

Lol and I am glad that she takes things with a pinch of salt, and that she laughs about it instead of getting upset or offended, because some people get offended easily and I wish more people had a since of humor.

Have you tried thinking of Vickie as Victoria? That might help. I'm always forgetting names. I cannot remember a person's name to save my life most times, yet introduce me to a dog and I'll remember his or her name the rest of my days!

hi ronaldinu its the other way around, I am good with names but here I get called Peggy half the time when my first name is Patsie. Why Peggy I will never know but its not my name. My name is Patsie with an ie not a y . I always feel like I should wear a name tag Patsie Hatley not Peggy please. When I do forget a name I really do a number, I will reach out to shake hands, a nd murmur Hi Mrs uh Mrs uh and hope to God someone helps me out. Usually the person will be kind and say, Its Mrs. Jarody, and I used to be Louella, remember? oh yes did I remember but could not say what I was really thinking. Louella had been the class bully and I had hated her guts, and time and tide had not really changed that sentiment much. she was older but had that mean smirky look on her face, that looking down her nose at you like you were a piece of dog turd. oh that Louella Nelson. I said,"oh yes yes I remember Louella, you haven't changed a bit, just grown older. How is dear fat Elbert?" She turned red and said, "Elbert is my husband now." I walked off as I wanted to laugh and knew I had been outrageous. but I still did not like her.So much for high school reunions. best not to go,.

hi Patsie...you have made me laugh reading about your school reunions experience. Sometimes you are in that situation where you are embarrassed when you forget a person's name but it seems that you have got all the skills to get out of such situation.

Nope, but I did have a teacher who used our middle initials to make up new middle names. So instead of Dawn Elizabeth, he called me Dawn Ellen...

I do forget the names and their faces but I haven't remember calling anyone with a different name. I guess you have to take some vitamins for memory loss or have it checked by a physician just to be careful. I do want to take some pills also for memory loss because my mind sometimes get dumb and I forget some things easily these days. They said maybe its just associated of having an operation and an effect of having general anesthesia. I'm not actually like these before I have my cesarean operation.

HI sether. Thanks for your suggestions. The problem is that I see a lot of pupils. Teaching a class for one lesson a week is too little to enable me remembering my pupil's name. I have a class of 25 pupils x 10 = 250 pupils. Too much too remember each and every pupil. However if there is something I can do like having pills I would do it. So do you think that your memory loss had to do with your cesarean operation?
