Do you report spam on mylot?

I see them often, folks with new accounts coming it to spam mylot with referral links, mostly with bad English and really badly disguised messages. Sometimes I'll hit the abuse button on them but sometimes I will think it's pointless. They will just get a new account and be back in a flash. Do you report spam on mylot?

Hello, Scammerwear. I certainly do report spam. I also report it when people spam the boards. In the mistaken belief that they get paid for every discussion they post, they'll pick a high traffic area such as MyLot.com or Q & A and post topic after topic that is nothing to do with the interest. At one time, I was reluctant to report people, but now I feel very protective of MyLot. It's a great site, and I hate to see it abused, so if anyone is doing anything they shouldn't, I report it. The way I see it, it's up to all of us to make sure MyLot remains a site to be proud of.

I don't like spammers but I want to believe that it's a minor problem, and I will not hit the abuse button for a spammer. I'm a new member, and I made my first abuse report a few minutes ago, against a member who was giving a link to a blog containing an injurious content towards another myLot member. His/her english was really bad (I hope that mine is a bit better). This discussion was removed in the same minute : the admins here are very efficients.

I know what you mean, sometimes I just stop posting when a discussion goes bad, or report it when I'm really turned off.

I will not report spam to mylot. I think the system itself may detect spam. Can anyone answer this also?? Any kind of help would be appreciated.

If I remember correctly, they did have some form of spam detection on the backend, but no programming is as good as a user report :)

No I've never really seen spam on here. I've seen some pretty bad discussions that were maybe a sentence long and I've seen some that were basically complete nonsense and not any real words but I guess I never thought that it could be spam. Maybe I'll start reporting those more if you think they are possibly harmful to mylot.

Actually I just saw one a few post back lol, some days it can be really bad. I still remember the early days of mylot when you get pages of junk from spam bots *shivers*

I consider the ones who are posting one discussion after another spamming. My email lately has been inundated with lots of discussions from the same user, and some of th the title seem be me to be obscene. There was one discussion made, where the user was mentioning how they buried their cat alime and skied if other users would bury an animal alive. I think discussions like that shouldn't even be permitted. that is sick and the person making it is sick, I feel. I will just ignore the multiple discussions as I am not interested in responding to any of them, as I know the user is just here to earn and not learn. I did however check one of hte discussions, and like I have been saying all along, the user wasn't even commenting back to the responses. That is rude and they shoudl comment back as a courtesy. Anyway, when I feel someone is spamming or bing vulgar, they will be reported. I am not afraid to report them as mylot wants us to. I have never yet been told I shouldn't have reported that person or their discussion. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

hi Alice I am always a little afraid it might count against me if I do too much reporting, I do not want t o hurt any one but several discussions lately have gone beyond decency and made me feel so ill that I had to report them. it almost seemed to me like the poster was perhaps mentally ill himself. I do not like the idea of being seen as a mylot police as one new user claimed but still if someones really abusing other people it must be all right to report this?

Hatley, if you aren't sure whether something should be reported then simply say so in your report. We'll investigate and make the final call just like we always do. Scammerwear, part of the fun of my job is the element of surprise.

I would always report spam on her personally as they ruin the site for other people. They will soon get fed up and go to other sites in the end.

So far i have not reported any scams on mylot.. I think it will be a good idea to be able to block out all those spammers for good!! They are only spoiling the good image of mylot, and making alot of members turning away.. Even hitting the abuse buttons are of no use, because they can always come back with a new identity, and all the rubbish will start again

I have seen lots of them like that, i even reply some of them, but my post is also deleted as the discussion itself is deleted. I think its hard to catch up for the admin also as there are so many user new and old. I see those links here and there. Some are removed, some are here for months and months also. You can see from the search tab result. But i never hit abuse button or report to anyone
