Disney animated: Prefer Classics or Pixar?

I personally prefer the Disney classics. I LOVE them. Movies like the Lion King (my favorite), Beauty and the beast, Tarzan, Cinderella, and The Little Mermaid have all been part of my childhood. And even to this day I love to watch them. They had AMAZING music, always had morals in the stories, and brought you to far away places. They really taught you about the world, about people, gave you morals, and let your mind explore. And they were truly good because they were universal for all ages. I watched movies like The Hunchback of Notre Dame when I was small and then watching it now that I am older I get things I wouldn't have gotten before, caught a few jokes and ideas not known to little kids, and really got absorbed into the story. I think they were good, and not just fluff, which helped to shape kids. Pixar movies are okay, but not nearly as good as the classics, and easily forgettable. Which kind of Disney animated movies do you prefer?

That's a good question...I grew up watching a lot of the Disney classics and I will never be too old for them, lol. But I do think the Pixar movies are quite good- they have a different sort of charm and I do not think they are forgettable. I think the Pixar-copycat movies are forgettable, though (e.g. the Shrek movies, Antz, Kung-Fu Panda, Over the Hedge, etc). I also think the newer non-computer animated Disney movies are pretty bad (e.g. The Little Mermaid 2, Peter Pan 2, Lady and the Tramp 2...all those "sequels" that go straight to DVD).

Well, I actually think Shrek was one of the better ones, along with ice age. But yea, the other ones you mentioned were pretty forgetable. especially like that new one called G-force, tat just looked ridiculous and a waste of talent and time. no contribution to entertainment whatsoever. Yeah...I HATE sequels. they ALWAYS suck. they are just watered down versions of the original n very generic. the only one i kinda like is lion king 2.

But i actually REALLY liked brother bear. It was newer, but drawn out, and i think it had really good moments, still educational, and still really good music. I really liked "no way out"

I like them both it just kind of depends on what movie it is from either I suppose. Growing up some of my favorite Disney movies were Alice In Wonderland, Beauty and The Beast, and plenty of others that I can't remember. I think that Pixar can make some pretty good movies too there are just a lot of generic ones that they make because they can make millions off of them and because the public most likely expects a new Pixar movie every so often.

yes, I know. A lot ARE kind of generic. Wat i liked about the classics is how VERY original they were. and they usually involved some kind of brave, strong hero fighting for a belief. like lion king or sleeping beauty. newer movies have morals as well, but not as big as the older ones.

I also like the classic movies. I haven't seen one in a long time though. I like Nightmare before Christmas which isn't that old. The older movies have a lot of charm that some of the new ones just don't have and there are so many of them now.

Both Disney classics and Pixar films are great but I think I still prefer the classics more. Movies like Finding Nemo and Monsters, Inc. were good and everything but there's just something about the classics that makes me never get sick and tired of watching them. I can watch Lion King over and over again and still love it. The music also is essential. Songs like "Under the Sea" and "Hakuna Matata" are unforgettable. I think I might be a bit biased since I basically grew up watching the Disney classics. Pixar didn't come around until I was well pass my teenage years. Maybe that's why I'm not as attached to those films.

personally i love the classic movies reminds me of when i was a kid watching Walt Disney and all of those i even remember the Scrooge cartoon that had Mickey mouse as Bob Cratchett that was pretty good too. I enjoy some of the new ones like the First Shrek was pretty good, but i think that they may have made too many of them now, but a lot of the stuff that they can do now they couldn't do back then, so i guess i would have to say that i like both of them, but the classics are probably just a little better, because that is what most of us grew up watching and remember the best. The music isn't quite as good as it used to be i would agree with you on that, but that is something they can always improve on too.

The thing is, I think the type of of newer movies cant work with the older songs. Really, I cannot imagine movies like Shrek, or Finding nemo synced up with all the more choral, majestic, and dramatic songs used in the classics. It just works better with the disney classics.

Love both haha. Disney´s classics has more movies with an incredible quality such as Tarzan, Alladin, Lion King, beauty and the beast. Although my favorite movie is from Pixar and is Up(best animated movie ever). I also love Toy Story 2, my little brother was obsessed when he was even more younger and he watch this movie all day and well i couldnt stop watching it as well(out of 3 he watch it, i saw it withh him on 2), it was adictive and even if i watch it 100th times i still laugh at it. Nemo was a nice movie as well. I just cant pick one, Disney´s classic has a nostalgia factor that give them an edge but Up is the best movie ever.

I have always been a fan of the classic Disney animations, but Pixar seem to be taking animation to a new level. I do find it a little unfair to compare them because you cannot really expect a movie from 20 years ago to compete with one made recently with all the advantages of technological advancements. I was fortunate enough to get hold of a DVD of Pixar short films recently. Among the extras was a short history of Pixar, which showed how some of their earlier ideas were developed. It is a fascinating documentary and difficult to believe how far they advanced in a few short years.

Yes classics was nice as cartoons but i think even the pixar one are ok and weel-prepared naturally these last one are influenced by hi-tech development and in many cases are considered more as comedy as regards the plot!the classics were more in the fable world!!

I will always go for the Disney classics. They are some of my favorites. Bambi is probably at the top of the list. They just don't make films anymore like some of the old Disney classics.

Tough one... i grew up and love Lion King and Tarzan among others. But i have to say i really love A Bugs Life , and Toy Story too ^^ . So i dont really know which one to choose . I spent my early chilhood with Disney classics, so i think i would choose that one. Also they have more movies that i like if i compare both classics and pixar. But both are really good.

Both. In my opinion Finding Nemo is as good as any classic mvoie Disney ever produced. My children watch it repeatedly and it never grows old. We took our daughter to see the Frog Princess and it is one of the most beautifull drawn and painted movies ever. Obviously people will tend to remember things based on their age and experience attatched to them, for example, Lion King was the first movie we ever took our son to a theatre to see, so its got a special meaning to it, but that doesn't stop anything thats newer from ebing special.

yea, classics are always gonna be closer to my heart. but tat might just be cuz I grew up watching them. It just doesn't feel the same with modern ones. I mean, movies like ice age r good n funny, n i reallly like them, but theyre not the same. they dont even have songs in them.

I agree with you. The classic ones are the best. But I like animated movies like Toy Story, that aren`t made after 2007. The classic ones are better because of their educational purpose.

there are fewer children's books considered to be classic. Most of them were already given life by Disney and WB. I guess it is just alright to see new stories for kids. It's just too bad because these stories aren't ours anymore, they are for the next generation after us. =)

It depends I love the Incredibles or Toy Story, but I love Robin Hood (favorite animated movie ever), The Little Mermaid, and Aladdin. Both companies have their good points and I can't pick a favorite.
