It would be like living in the olden days with out electric.I don't know how they did it.I love having electric indoor plumbing.I was just thinking about the olden days when they went outside to an out house, and when they got their water out of a well.I know some countries still live that way in the poverty areas.I feel bad for those people,I just couldn't imagine living that way.Could you live with out electricity?I really should ask What would you do if you didn't have electricity?

No way. I did it last year in the ice storm for 4 days, plus I did not have any heat either.

Well for the most part i wore tights, 2 pair of socks, turtleneck, sweater, slippers and my robe when I was home. At night I had 2 heavy quilts on my bed, and my kitty snuggled under it with me. i was lucky though I had hot water, and I was able to shower at my daughters house. I could not heat my apartment or cook because my stove at the time was electronic light.

I think having no heat is worse. Did you have to walk about indoors with your outdoor clothing on?

I hope that doesn't happen this year to you.I do know the furnace takes electricity, and I wouldn't want to freeze.I would have bundled myself up too.that must have been awful.

Well living without electricity, it would be difficoult to give up and not use all the electronic objects that are part of my daily life, but if the quest is if i could live in a house without electricity, then yes I could. I don't think I'd die, probably I would need some time to get used and learn how to live without but I wuld probably manage...what about you?

I would have to learn to live with out electric.I'd be so used to using objects that require it.I had a power outage last year,a telephone pole fell and put the power out,it was during a wind storm.I was so bored,it seemed forever for the power to come back on.The fire department came to fix it.It was an all day project.I was very bored.

Wow that isn't much, maybe if I were in that situation I would have probably spent all day out or at some friend's place and then come back home to sleep..

There is no way that I could live in a house without electricity, especially during the winter season when it is extremely cold. It would be very boring as well as being very uncomfortable. Sure we could use candles and flashlights to provide lighting but no heat, no air conditioning, no tv and no computers would not be fun plus no electricity to keep your food fresh would be even worse. If we didn't I would probably stock up on lots of blankets and warm clothes and have lots of batteries for flashlights, have candles and have books to read.

Hi Java, I do feel sorry to see lots of people still live in those remote and poverty areas without the supply of electricity and clean water. Hopefully the authority concerned of every country value and take care of them by providing them daily essential facilities and needs. I could imagine how difficult and tortured daily life is to live without these daily primary demands As I'm quite dependent of electricity to run my computer and fan. Therefore I could hardly live in house without this essential supply. I can't carry out my daily work on computer for sure. And the weather here, in tropical region is scorching hot. So we need electricity to keep our fan turning on the whole day. It's impossible for me to sit in any house without any rotational fan for sure. Have a nice day

It would be hard for me during a heat wave. Those people must feel very uncomfortable.I think we should be glad we have indoor plumbing and electrcity. We should be happy with what we have.I definately could not think of living in those conditions that the poverty stricken do.

Depends. Do I have a choice? if there's no other choice, of course I could. But if I can live in a house WITH electricity, I will go for that first!

We have camped for two weeks with no electricity. It was fun but then we knew it would end and so were prepared to cope. Once in our old house, we had a massive wind which blew some of the roof off and broke power lines. All the houses in the village lost their electricity and it was 2 weeks before they got it all back to normal. The local shop sold all its batteries and radios and electric torches and candles. We had oil lamps which we had bought because they looked pretty and luckily we could get oil to fill them. Our freezer was not too full thank goodness and we managed to use the food from it by sharing it with the neighbours. We had gas for cooking. I think If I knew there would be no electricity, I would go and buy a solar panel so we could at least still do some things with electric. We actually do have one that can charge a battery but it isn't enough on its own for bigger things.

We do have a very small TV that we got for camping. My son was finding he got bored and didn't really like going to the games room in one place we camped at. They had a TV but it was domineered by some of the bigger youths. He doesn't have TV now at all where he lives in term time.

Oh men, talk about living without electricity. Our country, our part of the country especially is recently suffering El Nino, summer drought, and since our main electricity depends on water current we are now experiencing six to eight hours of routine/scheduled black outs which really is bothersome, not to mention a great liability to our appliances. I just hate it. I just pray that rain would fall here atleast once a day and I guess that will be a lot of help. We're experiencing rationing in water and now electricity too. It really sucks!

Temporarily, of course. Permanently? No way in hell I think I would start losing my mind, and my days would be far more boring without things like the internet and such

Nope! Definitely I cannot leave without electricity! I realy salute them for surviving. I cannot sleep without an electric fan or aircon... I cannot really work and do my day to day activities if there is no electricity... I am so use to it, and I just cannot imagine a life without it... Oh no God please don't let us suffer...

I would not live in a house with electricity. I have no shame in admitting that I would not be able to handle it. The fact is when the power goes out around here, then its really bad news. Discounting the fact that it always does it at the worst possible times, it is rather boring. Books can only go so far. If I did not have electricity, I would most certainly be working on getting it. I think people could live without it because that is what they were used to. They knew of no other way. After all, you can't really miss something if you have no idea what it is. Therefore, that was their life and they survived. Just like this is our life with electricity and all the technology that we have these days.

I've lost power here due to a telephone pole falling in a wind storm last year,I have to say I was pretty mad .It was out for hours.I wanted to take a shower and the hot water heater takes electric,so I felt miserable all day.I was very bored. There were all these people outside just staring at it.then the fire department came to fix it and made a big ordeal. It's different if you were to go camping but I do not like the electric out in the house I'm living in.

I dont think thats possible with nowadays life styles. There lots of technologies for personal consume , even the nightlife haha. Without electricity also production and industries would have lots of problems , among other things. So, as Ralph Wiggum would say... : "thats unpossible!" haha. Take care!

It's hard especially when we're used to everything that we have that takes electricity.I could go camping with out it ,but I would be very bored if I didn't have it at home. With out electricity everything here is effected. No hot water,no heat, the toilet won't flush because it takes electric for the septic system to work.I've been with out electric for hours one day, because a telephone pole fell during a wind storm we had last year.

hi Java, you jeday-slayer ! I think I can live in a house without electricity only if the house is somewhere in the mountains, because I really like to go on camping there and just walk whole day long, collecting strobiles from the trees, doing fishing or just lying on some meadow and readign some book. i think if my house was in the mountain and there was no electricity, i would not worry about it at all

Well, for a temperary time. I wouldn't mind for like a week just to see how it is, but modern inventions are to make life easier and improve past inventions example the telephone or lamp.

I can imagine live without electric, because i have lived it. Last year on my country we have a big storm, and the electric has lost in all country for 2 weeks. But life without electric all my life, i can't do that! In olden days people is read many books then was a day, and go sleep about 6PM when was a dark outside. People on old times has very hard life. Can't imagine life without electric all my life. I am so accustomed to all electric things in my home, I would not renounce from that all. And sure sorry about that people who don't have electric in their houses.

It's not difficult for me to live without electricity. I've made sure that I'm not dependent on it for entertainment or survival. Although I prefer to have it, I can live happily without it, it's just a little extra work and schedule adjusting. It is always a good idea to learn to live without something you enjoy. When that thing is taken away through natural disaster or financial difficulty, you will not be miserable and can deal with life much better!

Hi lotters, Its very long since I responded to any discussion on mylot. Here I am back now.And about living in a house without electricity in these modern days is like a system without internet.Though its difficult to live without it,but when we think about old days, how people used to live their life without electricity also,we have to learn from it.These days as population is growing day by day and there is shortage of electricity.Still in some of parts of my country(India)people are living without power. We should think about its alternatives like using suns energy as a replacement. As far as possible we should try to save power. We should make a habit of saving power so that it can be useful for others at least for their essential needs..

In my country, people who don't have electricity or very minimum usage, are typically have stand-out children in class. They don't know what to do, so they study...As for me, it's like a living hell.

That's very hard especially in the evening. We can't use fans, aircon, television, refrigerator, etc. It must be a very hard life without electricity. I don't think I'd last for a day in such a house. It's like living in a cave.
