Observations

We have two dogs and two cats. The two dogs are chihuahua's. One of the two dogs is a peculiar thing, well they both are actually but the one I am talking about now is just too predictable. Well maybe not, after all I could be wrong with my observations. In any case, I like to observe things. One of the things I was observing today, though it's nothing new, was that our dog cracker likes to come out from hiding when he hears someone making food, or atleast in the kitchen. Another thing he does is when my husband gets off work at night he'll sit in the living room when he hears him pull in, and then he'll wait until my husband opens the door and walks in a little ways... Then he'll bark, it's almost like a "hello" as it's only one bark. Cracker was bit by a bigger dog and has been skittish ever since. I think he hides a lot because of that. Whenever I spot him "spying" I go to pick him up, depending where he is or what mood he's in, sometimes he'll scurry away, but he scurries and stops, waits for us to get closer, and then scurries and stops. We don't even get too close to him before he scurries away, or I'd say he was playing a game. Does your chihuahua or a dog you have act like this?

Though I have never had a dog act like this I know they do tend to have nervous upsets just like people do. Little dogs are more apt to be nervous, some more than others. I have never been around chihuahua dogs before but in observing them they seem rather nervous to begin with and especially if they have had a bad experience. I would be gentle with him and not pushy or teasing with him at all and hopefully he will get over this. He must like your husband and I bet he is saying 'hello' in his little dog way.

Hi Celtic! I think it's been over a year since he's gotten bitten. I think he'll always be a little more nervous now that he has that experience. We were so afraid for him as they thought his lung was punctured. He's fine and well now though. He is a very beautiful dog. He loves food too!

Ah, he sounds like a cutie. Sound like he is getting over a traumatic experience. Takes time just like with humans.

pretty sure the one is saying helo and that the other one is playing its own game lolol. OUr dogs would bow down and wag tail and wehn ya got close turn tail and run only to look back and lokked like they were laughing at us. THis new one if we can get it from jumpping on us and every thing might find something fun with her. I have noticed that when she goes to bark at something she sort of bounces toward the sound she is going to bark at!

Oh how cute! She bounces! Adorable! Sorry for the confusion, the one dog I was talking about both barks hello and scurries away when we try to approach it. One in the same dog. Our other one is like yours, very hyperactive. You say "come here peanut" and he's bouncing all over you, sniffing and licking! I'd upload a photo but the ones I have on the comp I or hubby have already uploaded. Maybe later I'll go get the ones from the fridge where they are in santa suits!

We have 2 dogs, a chihuahua and a strange little terrier cross (we're not really sure what he is!) When I adopted my chihuahua (Tessa) she had been severely abused and was a fear aggressive maniac! For the first few months I wished I never brought her home. She would try to bite if you clipped a leash on her collar, or tried to pick her up. If I picked up something (like a ruler or other "stick") she would cower and pee everywhere. It took a LOT of patience (and a lot of hotdogs and cheese) but within a year she was SO much more secure! Now she is a really fun little dog (she just turned 10). Our other dog (Gus) was just adopted last week. He is about 2 years old and it seems like he's had a pretty uncertain life so far. He is VERY submissive and seems to think he's always going to get in trouble. We have employed the "hotdogs and cheese" method already and he's starting to come out of his shell. He has some VERY weird quirks... When you come home he gets so excited he smiles and hops up and down. When he finds something and he's not sure what it is (like a new toy) he "bops" it repeatedly with his nose.. it is so cute! He is also very neat.. When he has to go to the bathroom he digs a hole in the yard "fills it" and then buries it! He will also "steal" chewies and treats and bury them in the couch cushions or in the yard, so the other dog won't get them. Since we aren't really sure what kind of dog he is we joke that he is really a ferret... especially after we caught him stealing my boyfriends jeans and a soda bottle and dragging them across the room to hide them! LOL! He is too cute!
