A Scary Moment

Last Saturday my family and I went out to eat. The parking lot was rather full, and of course over flowing with snow due to a huge storm we'd had on Friday. There was a spot at the end of the lot that we just barely squeezed into. Technically we were a little ways into the spot next to us, but we figured that spot was not usable due to the huge snow bank on the other side of it... perhaps a motorcycle could have squeezed in.
After our meal we come out to load back into the car, and found that another car did in fact attempt to squeeze into the space between us and the snow bank. Unfortunately this person left literally an inch or 2 between our 2 vehicles, so I could not get into my car, and I couldn't load my son into the back seat either. Not to mention... this guy's back bumper was actually up against our front tire... literally touching!!
We would not be able to move our car without damaging the other vehicle, so hubby went back into the restaurant to find a manager who would eventually locate the owner of the other vehicle.
We stood outside waiting a few minutes, then the guy finally comes out. He's a little nerdy guy, balding, probably 40 ish, wearing a turtle neck and glasses... but supporting a giagantic attitude. First thing he says is "Well, what's the problem?" I say "Problem is, you need to move your car!". He starts yelling at us about our bad parking job... which technically was not our fault because of the way the vehicle had been parked on the opposite side of us when we pulled in.. not that it matters. I honestly believe this guy should have just parked elsewhere instead of putting his car where it was... but he wasn't going to budge on his attitude.
He and my hubby ended up getting into a shouting match. My husband wasn't saying much.. just kept repeating "Move your car!" and each time he said it his voice got louder and deeper... until he took on his scary tone which I don't hear to often and it really frightens me! However this other guy, totally unphased, starts shouting profanities at my husband!
Finally he gets in and begins to move his car. As he's pulling forward I can hear the squeeking of his bumper pulling away from my front tire.. no damage was done to our tire though. The guy only pulls up a few feet... his car is still blocking my door! He gets out of his car and continues to shout profanities at my husband. I'm now standing behind the other guy's car, waiting for him to move it so that I can get into my car and we can leave this situation.
So my husband uses the scary voice again, and the attitude man gets back in his car to move it again... but he goes in reverse this time... RIGHT TOWARDS ME!! He came within inches of actually hitting me. Let me tell you I was a shaken mess!!
This whole time a waitress and the manager were watching our commotion. As the guy's car is inching toward hitting me I scream towards them to call 911, and they do. At that point the guy puts it in drive and goes away to park in a different spot, then goes back into the restaurant continuing to shout profanities at us. I'm amazed my husband had enough control not to throttle the guy... I'm actually still kicking myself for not throttling him myself, but I was far too shaken up to think straight.
Once the cops showed up and we told them our side of the story, they went in to talk to the guy and we finally left, without knowing what happened to him. Probably not much, but I'm hoping he at least had a bad night after that!
So that's my scary story... actually I'm beginning to shake again from the memory! Have you ever been in a confrontation like this?

Hi Katsmeow!1213
I honestly have to tell you that I don't think I could keep as calm as you and your husband did. I don't think my husband could keep that calm either. I'd do my best to get us out of that situation though, but If I was shaken up I'd either start to scream or start to cry.

We both wish we could do it over again and actually have punched the guy in the face... but in the end I'm glad we didn't, otherwise we'd be the ones the cops would have been called on.

That is not a nice situation to be in. I'm one of those people who avoids confrontations at all costs, and to be honest, I don't think my husband would have kept his cool like yours managed to do. I'm sure there is no need to say that the guy you had a confrontation with had a huge chip on his shoulder. It wouldn't have hurt to have just gotten into his car and move it, he didn't even have to say anything really did he.
People are just so overly aggressive now a days that it is quite frightening.

I couldn't agree more. I wasn't even asking for an apology... although I was highly annoyed. I don't see why anyone would park so close to another vehicle, you don't know if someone has to get in or out of that car. It seems common courtesy is gone with the wind.

Hi ketsmeow... Your story is really shocking. It is a little common though.. I understand that you're scared and I am sorry for what happened... I think you should have called the cops when that rude guy started shouting and yelling... Please don't get too nervous, because it has happened and nothing can be done about it. I am glad that none of you were physically harmed... It is better to learn from this incident and be alert and cautious in the future... :)
Take care...

Wow that is scary. I don't think I've ever been in a confrontation that bad. I probably would have been sick to my stomach. I bet you were pretty shaken up for awhile. I hope the cops at least fined that guy. I can't believe he would be so nasty about it when he is the one who parked up against your car like that. I hate that people forget how to park when there is snow on the ground. Even if you can't see the lines under the snow...you've been parking for years, you know how far apart your car should be from the other cars around you.

Wow!! To me this would be a Scary moment for sure. Especially when this idiot came that close to hitting you. I would wonder how my husband would not want to lay into him as well. But at least you had more of an audience than just you who did see the whole thing unfold, and even if nothing happened to that guy that day eventually there will be one day where something will happen and he will be reminded and only then everything else will be OK.

katsmeow1213,
I am glad that your episode just ended without any physical contact or I just don't think how the conclusion would have been.
I felt that calling for the police was the best option and that both your husband and you had held back. I am against any physical contact as there's a risk of injury and worse a call from the law.
Just don't take it to heart and hope that there will not be a repeat for your family. Take care and have a nice day.

EEK! I wouldn't of even continued w/ the shouting match just called the cops ASAP. What's so bad about saying "yeah the parking sux w/ all the snow, sorry bout blocking you in" Good golly, if your not sure if the parking spot then don't park there.
I'm glad you were ok and the dumbarse didn't hit you. So what beyond a disorderly conduct ticket possibly did he want 1st degree murder?
I haven't been in any confrontation like that exact. Though a scammer in Oct pulled up by my Aunt & I begging for money for gas. Of course we said no but my Aunt told him to shove off & he started hollering @ her that she was a mean old B---h. My Aunt said "if you were running out of gas why do you continue to run your engine and mouth off?"

This brings to mind an incident back afew years. I had parked normally in a department store's parking lot and went to go do my shopping. I come out and there is a SUV parked right infront of my car like right up against my front bumper. The people(three of them) come out and before I can say a word they start in on me. They are saying I parked up against their car! No. No. No. I am quick to asure them I did not. They got testy and continued to have the nerve to acuse me of parking so close. They try intimidating me by circling around me. I was getting pretty upset when they finally left. Ugh!

Some people just look for excuses to start trouble.. and that is a prime example of it!

Hey Kats~ Wow! That was really a scary story! I am just glad
that no one was phyically hurt! That guy was just being a phucking
azzhole and I hope the cops let him have it and if nothing else
ruined his evening! How could he do that in front of little
children! That to me was one of the worst parts of the whole
thing! I'm sure the kids were really scared to have both their
mom and dad screaming and not understanding what was going on!
For that alone the guy deserved a good punch in the face! So,
sorry you guys had to go through something like that when all
you wanted to do was have a nice dinner out with the family!
It's a shame that there are so many azzholes in this world that
want to ruin things for everyone else! I did have a similar
issue with a neighbor who tried to run me over with her car!
I was talking to a cable guy who was in his truck and I was
standing on the side of it and she purposely came back behind
me making a wide U-turn and then coming fast right next to me
almost hitting me! And the cable guy didn't see it because he
was talking to me and didn't realize what happened until I cursed
at her! Then he thought I was crazy! Figures! She is a psycho
neighbor who I have had problems with for 30 years now, as long
as we both have lived here! She has ran ever tenant out that
has lived underneath her apartment! She is a psycho w h o r e
and a miserable beotch! I live diagnal to her and she is afraid
of me so won't dare get in my face! That was the only time she
even tried to push her luck with me!

I’m not surprised you were shaking, I would have been in that situation. Personally I always try to avoid confrontation and to be frank if he had been so stupid to park his vehicle like that I would have pulled away and not worry about any damage to it, as long as it didn’t damage mine at the same time.

We were actually hoping for the chance to tell the driver what an idiot they were for the way they parked... of course we weren't expecting the driver to be so problematic!

That definitely is a scary situation, I imagine that you saw your life flash before your eyes as the man was backing up towards you. Like you said, I wouldn't think that there would be anyone that would try to park in a spot where there was a pile of snow, but it isn't the first time that someone has been that ignorant and it certainly won't be the last time that someone would do something like that. We went out to eat on Friday and parked in the spot next to a pile of snow and when we came out there was a jeep parked next to us on the snow and the vehicle looked like it could have flipped if a stiff breeze would have come.
