Have you tried driving through a red light ?Why did you do it?

March 6, 2010 7:14am CST
As I go riding everyday for work, I noticed that some motorists drives through the red light so fast as they are trying to steal a minute just to pass through the way.Looking at them makes me scared a bit for an acident to happen. But because they are so fast then the other motorists slows down to accomodate them.I am thinking lucky for them to have some considerate people too.In my case,I always try to wait for the green light no matter what so as to be careful and to avoid accidents.I would willingly wait with patience for my green light to show up.Anyways, it's not that long waiting though. How about you? Have you tried driving through the red light?I wonder why you did that?

I use to on empty roads. I mean why sit and wait? The reason the traffic light is there, is to keep cars from running into each other. But if there's no traffic, what's the point in the light? So when I got to a red light, if there was no one around, i would just go. Now though I just wait, because the frikin cops are everywhere. And no they aren't going to waste their time actually trying to stop criminals. They want the hard core scum that run red lights when no one is around, or Mr. zoom zoom with the boom boom doing flying 5 miles over the speed limit. Slow down you almost hit a rapist!

Hi! I don't have a car, but I have my driver's license. I have driven my father's car many times, and till now I have only once driven through red light, but it really wasn't deliberately- i just couldn't stop that fast and safe so that I should not cause an accident! it was really scary because if I was driven a second later, maybe now i wouldn't be here and discussing with you

yeah, i told you - a second later and now I would not be here :)

Well, I have been done this a couple of time not because I am a traffic violator but rather because I have driven emergency services vehicles. I have worked in the rescue service for quite a time and have driven ambulances, firetrucks as well as other rescue vehicles. When we respond to emergencies, there is always the chance of running through a red light. But when I am driving my car, I always stop for the red light.

Smiles to you jpso! We'll you'll surely have a pass on the red light obviously because you're a part of the rescue service. That is just fine and a must too.Right?

I've tried a few times driving through a red light. I did it because I am the only car there (a deserted road), so it makes no sense having to wait for 5 minutes for the light to turn green. The second time I drove through a red light is because the traffic police asked me too. Cheers.

If I were the only car then would probably do what you did too.Though sometimes traffic police or a video camera are just there hiding somewhere waiting to give you a ticket .(smiles)

I just did driving through red light yesterday, but i did not do it intensionally. The stop light was a bit not clear due to the spot of the sunlight, I did not see it clearly :-), Both sides of the road, left and right, all vehicles are at stop, i thought my side of road is at go sign, so i pass through, and then boom.... the cop is in front of me, telling me to park. I got a ticket and the cop got my licence, :-)

No, I never tried to drive through a red light. However, I did make my husband go through one once. I had been in labor with our youngest at the time. My husband and I had been at a red light. We were trying to turn left to go to the hospital, but had to yield to the oncoming traffic when the light was green. We missed our chance to go the first time around due to the heavy traffic that morning (heck, we couldn't even go through the light when it was yellow as cars were still running it from the other side at that point) and with my contractions being as strong as they were I told my husband to run it the next time it turned red. It was our only chance to go through, otherwise we would have been sitting at that light for who knows how long. And with us being so close to the hospital the last thing I wanted was to give birth in the car at an intersection. So, I made my husband run it. I know it wasn't a smart move on my part, but I was desperate. At least no cars were going through at that point, so we were able to make our turn safely and without causing a traffic accident. Happy mylotting!

In my town, they put up a red light in the middle of stinking no where. One of those places where I light defiantely was NOT needed.... Yet every time I drive past, I always get the red light! I make sure to stop to make sure it is safe, but I also go through if it is red. Why wait?

I've run a red light but not intentionally. Where I live though I can see people why someone would do it on purpose or accident. They way they have our traffic lights timed in my city is damned ridiculous. The red light stays on longer than in most other parts of the country and the green light is not on long enough so sometimes you might end up running a red light because of that. Also there seems to be some odd tradition for some people here that think green means stop and red means go.

I've never, that I know of, driven through a red light. Now, I've driven through some orange ones. My sister, when she was in her teens, was sitting at a red light late at night. No one was coming...and she waited and she waited...and the light didn't turn...and she waited. Finally, she gunned it and sped through the light. Only thing, there was a cop behind her...OOOPPPS. Yeah, she had one heck of a time explaining that one to my Mom and Dad.

Yes I have done this at times, mostly because loads of traffic behind me kept pushing and by the time I started driving I'll end up crossing over just seconds after the light changes, It's never my fault that it happens. Those motorists who simply speed through are really annoying, and dangerous and also one of the reasons that I hate driving.
