This photo shows one of the 2 trays of seeds I have started this year for my garden. I planted these today (Sunday). I am about 2 weeks behind my normal start date. I guess I just got lazy was all. Now I have a few flower boxes that will have my beans, radishes, peas, and corn seeds and others as I seem fit. This year for my carrots and lettuce, I bought the seed tape which makes it easier to plant as the seeds are so tiny to handle planting. started soon as well. I planted brocolli, zuchinni, acorn squash, yellow tomatoes, cucumbers, and cabbage. As well as a pot of catnip for my sons cat "BABY".
Have you started your seeds for the garden yet?
As always.....

It seems my daughter has a "black" thumb.
All plants/veggies/berries except Lilies I gave her she killed.
Quite easily too it seems.

I have not started any seeds yet. My dad bought some un-genetically-modified seeds from a nursery for green beans and a couple other things, they are in a kitchen drawer and I haven't looked at them for a couple months. I guess I should probably start some but it's still snowy here. In the 50's the next couple of days but snow expected by the end of the week.
I'm ready for Spring!!!

I start my seeds around the 3rd week of Feb each year.
So a little late this year.
They get transplanted outdoors in early to mid May.
They're usually decdent sized by then too.
I like the early start each year.
Now to plant them in a time frame so I get lettuce, carrots, cukes, tomatoes, green beans etc etc at the same time is the key. HAHAHA!

I have not even thought about a garden yet. It sounds like you will have lots. I like to plant lots of tomatoes, cucumbers, and a few pepper plants. I think I will also do a few cabbage plants this year. I tried cauliflower last year, but that did not go so good.

We haven't really had warm weather and so I have not felt inspired. I almost always buy the plants started already. I do not have a really large garden, but hope to have a bigger one this year. I always have tomatoes and peppers. I want butternut squash too. Each year I hope to get better.

We buy a lot of plants as well once it gets really warmer.
I don't care too much for butternut, but I love acorn squash.
Thanks.

I have never tried starting seeds in the house before, but I live in an area that has a spring and summer that is maybe a little bit longer than yours up in Minnesota.
Just the other day my son was looking at some seeds in the grocery store and was asking me about planting a garden this year. We moved into a house with a pretty big fenced in back yard, so we have room for a garden. I am going to have to till the yard to make one from scratch if we do though because it looks like the last renter never bothered with a garden. I think if I do start one it will be back by the garage, so that it is not in the way of the kids playing in the back yard.

Yeah here in Minnesota most things can't be planted outdoors till mid May most years. Sometimes I've planted in late April. But that's when we had a warm March etc. So far, so good as far as temps. Mid March will be the key with expected ice and snow storms we usually get around then.

I have my seeds, and my seed trays and lids and the seed compost all ready, but i haven't started them off yet. It's still very cold here and as I usually put my seed trays in the back bedroom, it's too chilly in there. I'm hoping to start mine off at the end of this month though, so I can have home grown salads and vegetables this year

not yet.i suppose i should get on it.
it's still snowing off and on,so i'd been slacking.
debating growing catnip this year..though if i do,instead of having most of the neighborhood cats around,i'll probably have all of them LOL
more herbs this year i think too.they've gotten ridiculously expensive to buy.

Haven't started yet, but intend to next weekend. I intend to grow the tomatoes, several different types, There is a yellow'tumbler' type , which looks rather good. i did the red version last year which was quite successful. Once again, french beans, radishes and peas. The raspberry canes have survived the hard winter plus the blueberry bushes and redcurrants. Roll on the warmer weather !

You start super early! I wish I could start that early even though you are probably more north than I am. But our last frost isn't until atleast mothers day. I've tried to start seedlings as early as late April and they need to be planted before my hubby ever gets to tilling the garden. *sigh* But I do well with things like beans, sunflowers, radishes, & flowers from seed. We usually end up buying the majority our veggies from a garden center and then I plant a seed or so with some of them.
Any advice on the acorn squash? I see you grown them from seed & I think I got one plant last year but it didn't make it thru the summer. :0(

hi Grandpa Bob well it looks like you are going to have an even better' bigger veggie garden this spring, and you are getting a good early'start too. Oh of course you need a pot of cat nip for Baby after all. I wish I had a small plot of ground to grow a few fresh vegetables here but I live in a retirement center now. oh everytime I hear the words acornsquash my mouth waters, we used to bake it with butter and some brown sugar and it was so good. When I was a kid back on the farm in south Dakota we used to raise both acorn and hubbard squash and we sure ate a lot of both og them. The only kind of squash they serve here is zuccini guess they have not heard of the other kinds.

I haven't started my seeds yet, we've had a lot of hard frosts lately so I've been holding out. I have bought lots of seeds and also my seed potatoes which I've started chitting ready for planting in April. I'm a bit short on space in the house and we don't have a greenhouse so a lot of the seeds will have to wait until the weather improves.
You can make your own seed tape if you are cheap like me. Use toilet paper and a mixture of water and flour to stick the seeds to it. The paper soon rots away in the soil once it is wet.

My mom is actually in charge for that, but I am the one who purchase the seeds, garden soil, fertilizers and other stuff for gardening. I just ask to do the actual gardening which I think she doesn't mind at all. She loves gardening and she got some orchids too in the front garden. In the side, she got some vegetables, which is very good I think coz sometimes we don't need to buy our tomatoes, beans and other leafy vegetables. It's really cool to have your own garden I think and it's safer as well. Enjoy gardening Grandpa Bob.

I haven't yet... but I really plan some... I went to the sidewalk nearby the mall I found some good seeds their... my only problem I really have no area outside the house... so guess it would work in a flower inside and I will just slip it out every morning for some sun...
