This photo shows 2 of the 6 stakes I got from my daughter this past Christmas. I love them all. She saw these at a dollar store and knew I'd love them. I finally get to use them now. I'll attatch a photo of all 6 to the first response too. Do you have a cherished gift you got this year that came from the heart and not the pocket book? As always..... HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Super cute! I don't get to the dollar store too often if I get there I'll have to look. Was it a dollar tree?

Yes, I guess I do. For Christmas, I asked for a fruit basket. I asked that it be one done professionally. You know, you can buy one in a store, or some places deliver them. I wanted one because around here it is hard to find fruit that is really good and fresh. Maybe it is the time of the year, I don't know. I don't like apples, and it seems those are about the only fruit around here that isn't bruised or squishy. So that is what I asked my parents to get me for Christmas. Christmas morning, my mom came in with this big basket full of fruit. As she was bringing it in, she said "Your dad got up very early yesterday morning to get you this so the fruit would be fresh.." And my dad interrupted her, quite upset. He said Leanne, you weren't supposed to tell her! The deal was, they couldn't afford to get me a fruit basket professionally put together. So my dad took a basket from the garage, cleaned it out. Went to Walmart and selected 4 different kinds of fruit. He bought a bag of unshelled peanuts, put that on top of the fruit. Then he got the colorful plastic wrap my mom had in her craft closet and covered the basket with it. And for the final touch, he put on a bow. My mom wanted me to know because she knew it would have special meaning for me. My dad didn't want me to know because he didn't want me to know they couldn't afford one already put together. Well, my dad doesn't normally pick out fruit for he and my mom. So there were two pieces of fruit that was overripe, and the canteloupe at the bottom got a little moldy two days later. But IT DID NOT MATTER! To me, he might as well have handed me a basket of gold. Of course I didn't point out anything wrong with the fruit. But I made sure he knew how much I loved it.

ambie pam I just have to tellyou about my needle wrap my hubby made for me one year for christmas. He got this sp ecial fabric that was sturdy and looked sort of like plastic, he stitched a b unch of pocket with another piece of the same plastic like fabric, then put various sewing items in each of the pockets so I had sewing needles, pins for patterns, buttons, a tiny pair of sewing scissors, tape measure you name it all things you needed to mend anything and all in one place. it was so special as he made it by hand. and to tell the truth I think he could have patented that as it was unique and really original. just had to share with someone.I have been a widow now for many years, but have great memories.

I have had the professional baskets, and they often are green, under ripe. I think this is terrific as it is fruit that you like. You like cantaloupe and what else? I DO NOT like Red Delicious apples but I like Gala's really well.

I too could use the "Grow Dammit!" one as well! It seems like I'm seriously cursed when it comes to growing anything! It never comes out right!

Oh, those are too funny! I love those. I don't really get many gifts, but the one that my son gave me for Mother's Day a few years ago is probably my favorite. He bought a big rock that was kind of shaped like a heart and then took permanent marker and wrote, "I (heart) you" on it.

Those are just so cute! I am one of those people who would rather have a small surprise gift that a large expensive one only on the standard holidays and birthdays. My all time favorite gift was a collage bulletin board that my nephew made me. It was a thick piece of styrofoam covered with all kinds of pretty pictures and happy phrases that remind him of me! It hangs proudly in my office and I find it works very well with the push pins he also made to go with it.

I do appreciate gifts from the heart rather from the pocket. That's why I do appreciate more my own son's father card rather than if he had to buy me an already made one. I do appreciate the thought and all the work behind it even if the drawings are not perfect but these are things which i treasure for a life time. Greetings!

Hi Bib. I fully understand your attachment to little (or big) gifts from your grand daughter, especially when chosen especially for you. I am exactly the same way with my daughter, who is now nearly 17. When she was 7 or 8, she wanted to buy me this secret birthday present. I knew she had her eye on an item in a gift shop. I wasn't allowed to look whilst she made the purchase. Then I had to look after the bag with out looking while she did something else. She gave me for my birthday this soft toy kangaroo with a joey in it's pouch. She was so proud of this gift. I keep it on my bed every day & will always treasure it.

Hi GB, Those really are too cute! I didn't get anything hand made this Christmas but right now my girls are only 3 years old and 5 months old so I'm thinking in a few years or so they are going to start making me stuff and I can't wait! I will probably be one of those moms that doesn't throw away anything!

I love those!! It's the little things that make us happy, isn't it? My sister crocheted me a scarf and hat for Christmas and I really treasure them. I much prefer things like that, ones that people think about and work on while they think about me. They are giving of themselves instead of their wallet.

Hi Grandpa Bob those are pretty and sort of fun too. I love those dollar stores as I can stock up on fresh fruit, something that they do not give us much here except for bananas. I got a small super flashlight and a wonderful set of earphones from my son, that little flash light had a powerful beam and in the dark room in the middle of the night I use this so as not to trip over my roommates crap. and the earphones are so much better than the ones I had won as a gift from Harris poll, all my mozart records are clear as a bell, just really so great. so many gifts from the heart are so much more precious than expensive crap given with no real thought at all. I also got a little brown bear beanie baby from my best friend's hubby at Christmas he always makes up a gift basket for me, as we are both UCI grads. they know I am a nut about beanie babies a nd have a pretty fair collection of them.my flash flight has led cells, its really keen.
