I started really getting into the bible about 18 years ago. Wish I had known what I know now, and I would've started many years earlier. But when I read at first, I ate up proverbs and psalms. But especially proverbs. I would read them and see myself in them and highlight whatever I needed help on. Needless to say the whole book was about highlighted. I mean when I read that it came to light what a rediculously awful person I was. What's your favorite reading in the bible?

Hello Chrystaltears. Psalms is a very deep book, its most of it about praising the Lord, how wonderful he is, how we can come to him in times of need and just a great book. I'm glad you like it. Proverbs is a great book for us to test ourselves, to know what we are doing right and what we have to change. Right now a Christian friend is not speaking to me because she gossips a lot, about everyone in church, in the ministry we belong to, etc. She came up to me telling me something very private and personal about another couple and was here on my house judging them until I got tired and told her what proverbs tells about doing that and how important is for us to keep other friends secrets and everything. This problem just got bigger because I told our leaderships to ask her not to tell everyone else this and they told me they've heard several times that she is talking private things about everyone in the ministry with outsiders. I'm very sad, not only for her doing that, but because she makes Christians look bad in the eyes of new ones, she totally rejected what the word of God says and she claims I'm the one wrong because I went to our leaders. I am not perfect, but by reading proverbs I'm aware of what I need to change. Well, I was born Christian so when I was a little girl (uuuuh long long time ago)I watched with my sisters a cartoon where some kids time traveled to Jesus's time and I loved to see the parabolas Jesus told and I looked them up in the Bible and memorized them (I guess I was not so little, around 8 years old). Nowadays I enjoy very much reading the scriptures and doing some historic research, like if I'm reading Esther I investigate about the kings of Persia, about Susa, Persepolis and those historical things involved in the story. Have a nice day, Libna. Keep mylotting.

I had a friend, and we started going to church together. Three of us, because two of us had attended a church for 8 years that closed. So, I had met this other person, and we all went to church a few times at his other little church in the country. Well, the one friend used to live in that community, and everytime we left the church, she immediately started telling us things about somebody in the church. Like, yeah she's goin' around in the church praising God, but she was fired from a job for stealing money, and everyone knows that. I said, bu she is in church now and has repented and God has forgiven her for it. You shouldn't be telling things like that. God doesn't want us to talk about His children. She'd say 'well it wasn't that long ago. and she hasn't changed.' Then she'd see a female who visited the church and did a sermon and sang. When we left she started saying she shouldn't be up there preaching. She was wild when I knew her. I'd scold her again, and say, 'we got such joy going to church today, and now you're talkin' for the devil. That's not what you do when you go to church. Then she came out saying the preacher and the praise team leader (guys) dated, she had heard that. I told her if she didn't stop doing that I was going to have to stop running around with her. Later she got so bad that we did drift apart, and people would say that she said I was mean to her! Anyway, she had very bad spirits on her. I didn't need to be around her.

Yes people can be mean spirited and still go to Church. Which is why we are all sinners and will be until the day we leave this Earth and go to Heaven and be with Our Father. I am guilty of talking about people as well. I don't spread very personal and private problems of my friends or if I hear something. That is not right. One last thing for libnawilkerson I never saw that cartoon you were talking about. Did you ever watch Davey and Goliath about the boy Davey and his talking dog Goliath. They still run them on one of our religious channels on Direct TV. I recently found out they are also on DVD. I think they were around the time of Gumby and Pokey. I still watch them on tv. One it brings backs memories of when I watched them when I was little and also the principles still hold up today.

My preference changes from time to time. I usually come back to Psalms and Proverbs too! However, I spend a lot of time reading the epistles. Then I will take time to read Old Testament stories too.

Yes. I do that too. Last time I read the bible all the way thru. I did it like this. I would read a few pages in Old Testament. Then I'd read a few verses or a chapter in Psalms. Then some in Proverbs. Then a chapter in New Testament. I averaged reading about 10 page a day. That way I kept those fresh on my heart too.

Psalms and Proverbs are two of the most beautiful book in the Bible and both are very close to my heart yet i would personally add the book of Job as a favorite of mine. it is where i can see myself right then and there when every time the attack comes Jobs faith grew stronger and the is so inspiring to me that now every time i am being attacked by the enemy (satan) instead of getting angry, my faith in God grows stronger and stronger cause i know i am His child and He will not let anything harm me. and He will always be there for me no matter what.

That's good. I love the two books too, and they helped me to get really going in the word. But I love most of the rest. I love Daniel, and I love Genesis and Exodus--Moses' part and the miracles. I love Isaiah. And I love anywhere it talks about what God has created throughout the Old Testament. Describing the beauty and wonders and how marvelous it all is! Those scriptures are beautiful, awesome!

I am a christian by birth and am married to a hindu but would like to admit that I really am not into reading the bible. I have really not tried doing that even once but by the way you say it. I feel that I should really give it a try and I am saying all this during the season of Lent.

I hope you're not thinking I said something wrong. I didn't intend to, but if you feel like you should really give it a try, God will give you that little push you need. Before I got saved I thought it over in my mind so much. Like, I'd have to stop this an that, and my personality would be different, and I'd be nobody anymore if I was just nice and kind all the time, but it's amazing how God changed me over time, because I wanted to change. And for the first time in my life people actually said I was sweet. I never thought I'd hear that, but God can do anything. It took him. I know! So maybe you'll decide to give it a try. Be great for you.

Takeshiboy. Definitely that is a great way to learn from that. He perspire blood. He said 'nevertheless, they will be done'. It was showing love for us. Precious.

I am quite a fan of Ecclesiastes. There are some incredibly insightful words in it. The Synoptic Gospels are life-altering. Paul was brilliant. Isaiah is an eye magnet. Proverbs, yes. Psalms, yes. There are just so many.

Yes. Most of the books are so interesting, cept a couple, like numbers and chronicles. Before I would should skip over them, but then I knew God had them there for a reason, so I have read them each time.

When I first got into reading the Bible, I was into Psalms and Proverbs too. I think they are the easiest as they are often short. Another favorite of mine is Ecclesiates. It has a lot of good things to say about what is really important in life and comments on things we place high importance on. My favorite at the moment is the Book of Daniel, the Old Testament counterpart to Revelation. I took a Beth Moore Bible study on it and was blown away! I would recommend the study to anyone, male or female.

I take Beth Moore Bible studies through my church. They are on DVD and are available through Living Proof Ministries. I think you can get her stuff through Amazon, and I suspect Living Proof Ministries has a website. I have taken several of her studies and they are all fabulous. They are pretty expensive if you are buying them as an individual, but if you got a group together to pitch in, or a church it would be doable.

I like Psalms and Songs of Solomon and I enjoy reading these little stories about the lives of the people back then. The bible has many hidden surprises.

hello chrystaltears, i am not really into reading the bible...hehe but i do read sometimes. my favorite are the proverbs coz there's really a lot of good things in there. and another that i like reading are those parables, and the inspirational lives & stories of faith of job, esther, and all other characters in the bible... so when i am reading the bible by myself, i am just reading the stories of the lives of people back then...sometimes the bible is difficult to understand especially when it comes to some matters and so i don't try to understand it myself, i am listening to the preachers of our church when it comes to bible matters coz i believe that they are the one who are authorized to read & preach the bible to us... and if i try to understand it myself & give my own interpretation, im afraid that i get the wrong understanding...

You know what, even some preachers make false interpretations. Ask the Holy Spirit to interpret it for you. That's what they say.

I'm not a Christian, now, but when I was, I studied the Bible quite a bit. I always found Psalms and Proverbs to be the most interesting and moving books within the Bible.

Each book has a different story to tell. Salvation history, I think, has its stages. There was a time for the establishing the faith, as in Abraham, for searching for God, as in Joseph and his stay in Egypt, for setting the law, as in Moses, for defending the kingdom of God, as in David, and many more. There is progression in the stories till we come to the New Testament. And here we see the fulfillment of redeeming man from the great fall. I like all the stories. Some are even so scary like a thriller (Samson). Let's just say the Bible is a favorite, my only favorite book.

More blessings to you, too. Don't worry so much about not having much time to read. Our priest said that when you go to church for the rites religiously, then you get to know 1/3 of what is written in the great book. One day, when your are not so busy anymore, you would be able to enjoy the stories, too.

Each book in the Bible tells a different saga. I kinda like them all. But ask me what I don't like. Numbers. That book is a statistics of how many cups, platters, gold, silver, linen, and even livestock. Gosh, everything was accounted for, ha ha! I yawned a lot going through it all. I didn't know how I finished the book but well!, it's done.

In my Childhood I read only psalms and proverbs only. But now I read the whole bible. We have to learn so many things from the Bible. So we should read it completely. We should not reject any part of the Bible.

You know what I just finished watching a documentary on the gnostic gospels and parts that were left out and Enoch sounds like and interesting text to read. It is full of probablly the most metaphysical stories that the bible can hold. If you search the library, like I am going to do, you can probablly find books to read on it.

The Book of Sirach and the Proverbs are both books that I enjoyed reading from the Old Testament. However one of my favourite books in the Bible is the Acts. I love reading how the church grew from a tiny cell and spread throughout the whole world. It is interesting to read the challenges that the first Christians had to face.
