Ever wanted to know what your dog is barking at you for..? Ever wanted to know why it does not bark a lot ? Ever wanted your dog to reply to you with a voice..? A toymaker has a answer for these questions..It sounds crazy right..? Japanese toymaker Tomy has come up with the perfect gadget for all your doggie desires.He calls this as Bowlingual.The later version has no voice module but newer gives your pooch a voice... The new release replies with a human voice that comes from a transmitter that is wireless linked to a microphone that is in the form of a dog collar.It basically recognize six canine emotions and translate into words.It can say "I love you" or "feed me"..based on the emotions..I just said the basic concept but it has more features it seems.. This device is just to develop the bond between the master and the dog.However a person who truly can bond with his dog does not require it. It is just not a complete interpreter but something we can figure out what our dogs are saying...Technology is developing in different ways..What you think about this..?Good one or bad one ..?

I think if there is a good bond between the dog and the owner there is no need for such technological devices. I can understand my dog's needs by just looking into the dogs eyes. I can understand if my dog is happy or not, if she is hungry or not if she is in pain or not. I think that this device is good for the owner to make a quick buck out of it but a reputable dog owner does not need to resort to such device to know what his four legged friend needs or wants.

Thanks for explaining Gany. I find the bond with dogs comes so natural that sometimes I do question myself whether I do get along better with dogs than with humans :)

I think there is reasons behind all things and this one is a gadget just to make money. Would it be as a person you did not understand wear a necklace and then you can understand him or her now that is a great idea..BUT however if that ever happened which I doubt unless you are willing to learn it yourself. Animals and people come to understanding each other by looks and actions just as well. a sense of knowing. a welcome greeting, a sad or unplayful moment. Understanding your pet will come natural if you spend time with them. I think a dog might get confused hearing a strange voice speak out and humm LOL if the dog got angry wonder what words come out?? well it would maybe be greeeee.. we might think it brush my teeth LOL...I think it is all in the money department...

you are welcome and to sell a product to take from others is very dishonest and I think they should not be selling it because they really do not know. I think it is a waiste of money and time to even try. People can bond with their animals with love and care not just through something on their neck and walk away. All animals are differant, treat them good and good will come. to spend time with the pets. I think alot of products like that is a waste of time. Thanks.. and your welcome.

I dont have a dog right now. I do have 3 cats. One cat is named Bubba. Sometimes he will meow loudly for i do not know what reason. I just call him name and say here then he comes running for attention. He will be ok then. One day he was standing on the edge of their toy box moewing loudly so i thought id get his favorite catnip fill mice out for him. Only to discover all 6 were gone after just 2 days. I had just put them in there because he would try to get in my drawers where i had extras stored ina package. Ok so i started looking around and found a pile of 5 under the bed. Lol! I didnt know cats did that. I took them from his stash spot and hid them under the other toys and 6 more from a new package. In less then a week they all 12 are gone again. I do not know what is happening to them all. I found one once before that was shredded up so im thinking he could be eating them???

Questions: 1. Was the dog barking in Japanese, or was it a Japanese barking dog? 2. Can the collar be re-configured to translate barks into different languages? 3. How did the TOYMAKER figure out WHAT the dog was feeling in the first place? I would have to agree with you, in that, if you ARE "connected" to your pet, and WATCH its behavior patterns, you can pretty well figure out what it wants, or what it's trying to say to you. You don't really need a machine for that. However, in terms of science...it's pretty cool that someone has achieved this. Pet owners such as myself, have often wondered what their pets are saying and/or wanting. Well, I AM able to figure that part out, given the time that I've spent with my own pet. My problem though...is to figure out, WHAT the heck my pet is THINKING! Now THAT would be the machine I'd invest in. cdrxo

I think its kind of a neet idea, it reminds me of that animated film up where that dog had some kinda voice translation device, well I hope it works as good as its concept, and I also hope they make one for cats too because even though I'm good and under standing what my pet cat wants it would still be cool to actually hear it translated in words because every now and then I still have to guess what she wants.

frankly i dont think i can take a gadget like this seriously, sounds gimmicky,wonder how the gadget works? thru volume? surely emotions cannot be measured!
@bryanwmc (1051)

My guess is that its probably based on the vibrations or sound waves and program into memory certain waves or vibes in association with certain emotions, and even that large part , a must surely be guessswork , and as for the accuracy of the interpretation,seems to me i 'd say pretty much of hit and miss,Not like the pooches can use spoken words to translate the bow wows.

it is not volume..It is based on acoustics..The different forms of sound will be recognized and it will be converted into voice that is recorded...It is possible but don't know how far it will work in reality...

Hi Gany! This seems silly to me! If you are an animal person, which I am and you are truly bonded with your pet you already can pretty much figure out what their "sounds" "barks" or "meows" mean! I have had both dogs and cats and am pretty good at "reading" what they are saying to me most of the time! I have two cats now and one is more vocal then the other! Luna is a whiny cat and I might not always know what he is saying, but I can pretty much guess that he wants attention or food! And his brother Star, who is less vocal, but more loving is just as easy to read, but in a different way! So, I don't think that the transmitter thing is going to really do much for pet owners who already really know their animals! That's just my opinion!

I might look into something like this because even though I can usually tell what my dogs want there are times when they will start whimpering at me and nothing I do is pleasing them water, food petting, nothing and I can't figure them out then. Its frustrating when they do this crazy behavior and I can't fix the problem.

My little 3 pound chihuahua comes up to me and barks and scratches my legs or feet and I say 'wanna go outside'? That's not it. You want to eat supper? Not it. You want mommy to cook you some chicken. She takes off into the chicken and waits for me to do it. Love it.

My dog usually carries his water dish to me, and I know that he needs more water. I love him!! Another day, he brings the food bowl, I would know it is dinner time! I rarely remember whether he barks for food or water. He comes to me and paw my leg that he needs to pee or poop! My dog is amazing! So good!

My last dog was great at letting me know what she wanted but she was also very intelligent and took pity on her humans. She trained us as much as we trained her. I think it's a cool concept but I wonder how they decided on what bark means what emotion? My cats do have distinctly different meows for different things so it's almost like talking. Tomy toys always has very creative ideas! Take care!

ya... its good one man.. technology developing day by day... i don't know how its possible, but this a good application for pet lovers.. i too lik to see that equipment. where u got this info..in future lik this a transmitter needed to express the baby's emotion to their mom... lets see

I got that from a magazine...then there is no need for an instrument like you said for the babies emotion.If a mother can't understand what a baby says..then it is waste...

I agree that a person who can bond with dogs does not require a gadget to communicate with them. Having a pet can be a learning experience for both the human and the animal. I base this answer on my personal experience, and also on an interesting article on the NPR website, titled "Do You Understand Me, My Pet?" Creator of virtual dogs and former associate professor at MIT, Bruce Blumberg says that dogs observe if your body is leaning forward or backward, where you're looking, and how you say a word. I believe that humans also learn from observing their dogs. The more time you spend with your dog, the more you will be able to understand the meaning behind its body language and vocal expressions. That said, it is interesting that the toymaker has come up with such a device. It will be even more interesting to see how people respond to this in the near future.

I personally think its ridiculous..If a dog owner doesnt understand their dog then they shouldnt have one as far as I'm concerned..Why? Because they either arent spending any time with it or just dont pay attention to it and both situations are wrong and unfair to the pet..

This is amazing but it's just one more device to rob us of the ability to think. Like you said, a person bonded with their dog knows what they are barking about---they have carefully observed and cataloged their dog's actions and reactions, gotten to know him and thought about him. This collar means you don't need that. It seems that there are so many devices out there that discourage us to think, watch, be aware of things, get to know people or have a quiet few moments by ourselves. Our minds are being destroyed through dis-use and we enthusiastically embrace it.
@Gany15k (1673)

It won't destroy our minds i think..It is just a development in technology..which can be useful for someone who really needed unlike others.I mean the persons who are not able to bond with their dogs..

Mmm, this is weird isnt it? I know when my dog is hungry or when he wants to go out or when he heard a noise. I can tell. What Id like to know is "if" or "when" he's in pain. I dont think they bark when in pain and thats what Id need help with. If you love your dog, you know what he's saying!! Thanks for sharing this information!

its a good one i guess, but don't u think its a bit too predictable what your dogs wants? I mean dogs are unpredictable and they are very different from humans and there are alot going on in their brain as well not only "I love you" or "Feed me". What about if they get hurt? Or when they saw a stranger? I means it just so simple to be really translating what dogs are trying to say, and its not even connected to the brain. hehe I'm not against it, infact I want a real one, the ones in the movies that really works hehe not a toy.

That what I have mentioned this device is not for everyone.If master has the better understanding with dog .. you can move on.It is for those who wants to develop their bond with dog..and those who are eager to know what their dog is saying... It is related to voice.This device is developed with help of acoustics.Brain does not deal with this...
