oh my goodness I look horrid. I fell asleep at my computer yesterday morning while mylotting, my head hit the key board really hard. Blood on the keys. Sure woke up quick. I felt the spot on my forehead above my right eye and there was a big welt and a black and blue bruise forming. I went down to the nurse, and after a laugh fest she got an ice pack and handed it to me. NOw this morning I have for the first time in my life a black eye. And I did not hit anyone nor did they hit me either. I had a fight with sleep and my computer, and the computer won. Now I am asking did any of my fellow mylotters ever get a black eye in something silly rather than in a real fight? Or any other sort of injury that might look like you had been in a fight, only you had not? The nurse had to write up an accident report. wow. that seemed so silly but I guess its partly for protection in case I had a concussion or something.

My face was sore for a few days, but I guess it takes more than a ketchup bottle to give me a black eye! Falling off a horse or totaling a car, those did it!

hi ElicBxn my doctor took one look at me and said, what on earth did you do to your eye, and when I told him about falling asleep and hitting the key board with my face,he had to laugh,he tried not to but he did laugh.I did too as might as well as it was silly and funny too. totaling a car thats not funny but scary boy oh boy. oh falling I am so scared of falling as I never even thought of it before but four years ago I was wearing a different pair of orthopedic shoes with the brace on my left leg. On my way into my favorite restaurant for breakfast,I tripped on something and fell, really hard, landing on my left shoulder. my worn out shoes I think were the main cause. I tried to put my hands down to get myself back up on my feet, but my left arm did not respond. oh boy I know I was in trouble. thought I had dislocated my left shoulder. someone called the paramedics and they insisted that I go to the er for x rays and I kept saying my doctor is just across the street, then I heard the one paramedic sayh, maam we don't want you wandering around and I passed out.The er doctor immediately sent me to a room to be admitted then x ray and oh the pain, I had not just broke my shoulder I had smashed the bones into bits, so had to have a shoulder joint replacement of steel and plastic, a bionic woman now. sadly I cannot lift my left arm up now to reach any high places or even to just comb my hair. the real joint is much better.

hi gabs oh my doctor even laughed when I told him how I got it. I asked him why was i getting so groggy and sleepy after breakfast while working mylotting, and I said I just thought it was b ecause my blood sugar was too high, and he surprised me. no he said, those are symptoms of low blood sugar, so next time I get to feeling like that I am going to check my blood glucose, if I am low I will get some orange juice. as I had had a good night's sleep. I am being much more careful and when I get sleepy I stop and get a nap. after all I do not want to chance this again.

OMG, is the keyboard okay? (LOL) I’ve never had a black eye in my life, not even when I had surgery done to my nose to fix a deviated septum. I had to smile when I read your discussion Hatley, I don’t usually laugh at other’s misfortunes but it sounds so funny getting a black eye from your computer! Talk about these machines having a life of their own! I have fallen asleep on my laptop keyboard before but luckily for me I went down gently and just woke up an hour later with the keys indented on my forehead! All jokes aside I bet it really hurt! I hope it gets better in a hurry, you poor thing, that is what I call dedication! Take care of yourself, I would stick to working on the PC during the day if I were you or at least when you are not tired!

oh it hurt the day I did it but now its just very colorful.my doctor even laughed when I told him what happened and it really was funny. he said that the symptoms I told him about falling asleep so hard were probably because I had low blood sugar, so after this I will test when I get to feeling groggy. he may be right.

Haha! I never had a black eye, but I know what you felt with falling asleep while myLotting. I once fell asleep on the bed with my laptop on top of me, while trying to respond to a discussion. It took more than 6 hours, but I managed to submit my response for that particular question. The only 'silly' bruises that I can remember I got were from joining a fraternity. If I look back on it now, joining it was kind or silly, so I recall those black and blues I got as silly bruises.

So computers ARE hazardous to our health! Your injury must have hurt so much. Good you were able to laugh about it. I've had a number of black eyes over the years. The strange circumstance of one was that I was outside at a night time party. I heard my name and swung around - and that is when an empty swing a boy was pushing backwards and forewards hit me in the nose. Nose was broken and I had two wonderful black eyes. The unfortunate part was, this happened in a school break and I had to commence high school with two black eyes. Kids didn't mess with me! I have also caused a black eye in innocent circumstances. Vacuuming on a Christmas Eve when my youngest was two, I didn't hear him pad up behind me and my elbow caught him fair in the eye, poor kid. He and his brothers still like to remind me of how I gave the one son a black eye for Christmas.

hi rangagirl oh the teasing I had today and the concensus was I needed to wear a bike helmet next time I mylotted. the nurse and I had a good laugh then she handed me an ice pack and informed I would have a blackeye the next day, oh was she right. It looks horrid. but its not painful just rainbowful instead.he he. I can just imagine sitting in class in high school with black eyes.so nobody messed with you . he he. Its so easy for an accident to happen like that with you and your little son, I did the same thing to my hubby accidentally and he teased me for weeks, telling all how I gave him a black eye.now he knew darned well I would never ever have done that to him on purpose.

Hi Hatley. Firstly I hope your eye and head are feeling better by now. You do go to extreme lengths to make the nurses laugh! No, I can't remember ever having a black eye. As a young person I used to faint a lot, and even fainted when going down some steps, but never once did I hurt myself in a faint. I guess you fall "loosely" or without resistance, so even though I am told I went down with a thud, it was a "soft" thud. Now, in my older years I bruise fairly easily, for no apparent reason (although I MUST have knocked myself) I haven't had a black eye.

hi cloudwatcher oh the questions today, did you fall, what happened to you, did you know you have a black eye? and of course the laughter when I told them about falling asleep and hitting my forehead on the keyboard, I did hit pretty hard and just in the wrong place. I do bruise easily too. today its not that sore but its very colorful. I fainted once a couple of years ago when I was hospitalized with bleeding diverticulitis, the loss of blood had made me feel light headed, and I just crumpled up, went down on my knees, no damage at all but the nurse grabbed me and put me back in bed, the embarrassment came when I realized I had poohed on myself and the floor, that brought tears, and the nurse, really sweet, assured me that was easily cleaned up.All because I had ate some blackberries and the seeds had collected in one of the little diverticuli and broke an artery. so I had four blood transfusions before they got the bleeding stopped. black berries. now I know do not eat berries with seeds, or nuts, or popcorn, or any kind of seeds at all.

How awkward it is to tell the nurse that you have dozed off while surfing the net. It is indeed a self inflicted accident which landed you with a black eye. I never experience such a funny incident of falling asleep while I am surfing. The glare on the screen is enough to call off my sleepiness.

I know my blood sugar was way too'high and thats what made me so sleepy.

I got a black eye from a car accident and one when a string on my guitar broke and hit me in the face--ouch!!. But even now when I hit myself in the face on a door jamb--yes, it really is done!--I don't bruise. I bruise everywhere else on my body and I swear I don't know where they come from, can't remember how I did it. How embarrassing for you! I'm sorry, but it's rather funny! I hope it doesn't hurt much.

I have a habit of running into things with my face or head...the floor...the edge of the couch...the cupboard door The freezer door. A tree branch. As a kid i was forever looking bruised and scrapped up. Maybe that comes with being a klutz...and a farm kid lots more stuff to get into. I'm sure there were times people wondered if i was abused because i was such a klutz. I've fallen off fences (and had the saddle fall on me from same said fence...my Advice to anyone DONT sit on the saddle on the fence if its not tied on!) I've slammed a door so hard the window fell out on my head (needless to say ive never slammed a door that hard again!)I've fallen down a dry well...I've been bucked off a horse...

saundyl oh you have my sympathy as I think I am a bit of a klutz too. 'My fall caused by tripping over my own right foot, landed me in the'hospital with surgery to remove the smashed bones a nd put in a bionic shoulder joint. sadly I have never regained much use of my left arm but I have managed to live and cope with things anyway. I have tripped several times since, broke a couple of ribs and 'skinned both knees but other than that until this black eye I have 'been pretty good, maybe your good luck now will kick in and no more klutzy things. lol lol oh I grew up on a farm also. he he.

hi saundyl you should have seen me when I was twenty and at college in the U ofSD. and fell running to a class as I was late.I skidded on a patch of ice and landed on my tail bone. oh the pain. The campus doctor said you broke your tail bone. He gave me pain pills and a cushion like people with hemorrhoids use . I had to set on that darned thing fore almost six weeks as otherwise it was too painful to sit. imagine sitting on that thing with the whole class gigg ling and whispering.

hi bunnybon 7 boy do I hate husbands that do that to wives.I told my hubby when we were first married no man is ever going to hit me, he does it once,it will be the last time. He laughed then said no woman should ever be hit for any reason. He was more the cuddling kind, he never raised a hand to me or said mean things either. Mygrandad threw a magazine to me and the thing hit me on the arm and made a big bruise. He felt so bad as he was a gentle person, a real love. there is something in some of the heavier magazines that real will do a number if it hits you just right. wow.

My oldest daughter had a fishing game - one of those "virtual ones" that is shaped like a fishing reel and you have to pull back on it when it vibrates to simulate that a fish is biting the line. She was really into playing that game and pulled too hard and hit herself in the eye with it, which gave her a black eye. She was in grade school at the time, so I was a little worried sending her to school the next morning with a black eye, but all was well. Just about the time that her black eye had almost healed, however, she decided that the first one was not enough, and she did exactly the same thing with the fishing game. This time, I went in and explained to the teacher exactly what happened, because I really was worried that I would have Child Protective Service showing up at my door. The teacher laughed about it, and it was alright. I was ready to get rid of that fishing game, but my daughter really liked it and begged for its salvation. I told my daughter that the fishing game was going in the garbage if it ever happened again, and fortunately she was more careful with it from then on.

Yes, it would not have been a good thing if that had happened. I think that I was probably worried over nothing, but I just wanted to make sure. After talking to the teacher, I found out that there had been an outbreak of children having bruises on their faces from this game - not all of them had black eyes, but some had bruises on their cheeks and foreheads, too. I don't know whether or not they still make this game, but it definitely should come with an entire section of warning about the hazards from playing it.

Hello my friend AWWWW, You must have been really tired wow, sorry that happened to you, I have never had a black eye or anything close to this, my Daughter went out the other day and had a few drinks and feel off the bar stool and came home with a shiner I was so upset because she is really light looked like someone hit her, I also know she can't hold alchohol so I can see her falling off the stool. Try not to let that happen again my friend, you could really hurt yourself, even knock yourself out, be careful. Smoochesssss

Sorry for laughing, but I've done the same, only without injury. Playing with my daughter and niece when they were about 8. We were at a park running down a hill really fast. I saw a tree near the girls, spo I ran as fast as I could down the hill. Grabbed them just before they hit the tree, tossing them to the ground off to the side quickly. I in turn took the brunt of the tree hit. I actually broke 3 ribs. My niece said she doesn't wanna play with Unc Bob cause she got hurt. HAHAHA! As always, HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I broke my ribs following our friend through the parking garage adjacent to his apartment. I saw him jump over something but in the dark I did not see the concrete bumper thingy in front of the parked car. boy did I go down, skinned both my knees and broke my ribs falling over that concrete slab. wow the pain. I still had some soreness in my side when I first came here to GoldCrest.

Hi Patsy. I saved this so I could respond and then let time get away from me. I'm going through my inbox now getting rid of whatever I don't need or still need to deal with. This was one of them. didn't realize how long it had been! The last time I had a black eye I was a kid. I got one from the kid across the street who threw a ball that hit me in the eye and another one from the dentist who was trying to hold me down to work on my tooth. I fought him, literally, tooth and nail, even with his nurse and my mother trying to hold me still. His thumb went into my eye and my mother never took me back to him. It was ten more years before I saw a dentist. But, my mother once got TWO black eyes, back before I moved back home to be here when she got really sick. She was sick to her stomach one night and went into the bathroom to throw up, picked up the toilet seat and as she was just beginning to let loose, the seat fell back down and hit her on the bridge of her nose. The next day, both eyes were black. She said the pain was unlike anything she'd ever felt prior to that. But, she saw people looking at her when she went to the pharmacy (despite her limited vision) and thought that they must have thought her husband must have hit her because how else would a woman in her late 70s or early 80s (can't recall which) get TWO black eyes! She laughed about it every time she told the story. So, you're not alone, Ms. Hatley. These things happen and they can be quite funny (AFTER the fact, of course).

Hi Hatley, "Ouch"!! oh you poor thing, I've done that before, falling asleep on my computer, but thakfull never had a black eye on it, you must have hit your head bad. I once had this telephone table that hangs on the wall with a mirror, well I bend down to pick something up and knocked my head on the edge of the table, gosh, I saw stars and there was a big lump on my head, so I told my friends that I head butted my hubby, hubby wasn't amused, lol! LOL...poor Hatley! I hope you're feeling better and that it hasn't caused you much discomfort. Look at the bright side, at least the letters and characters on the keys aren't raised. Wouldn't look good to have a black eye and the mirror image of 'backspace' on your eyelid. The only time I've had a black eye was when I was little. When visiting relatives once, I had to sleep with my mother and her elbow hit me in the eye. She was horrified and probably spent time worrying that I'd tell some one where I got it, but not how...
