Do you feel sorry for others?

Hello friends, There is no doubt about the fact that we love ourselves the most. There is always a certain urge to keep ourselves safe and happy. Our whole life is just a quest for happiness. We seek for the things that may bring happiness to us. We are busy in making ourselves more comfortable and contented. We like ourselves a lot. But how come then we think about others? Why do we feel sorry for someone in distress? We even feel sorry for people we don't even know. We sometimes forget our own stand and wish if we could help them. When others get hurt, we get hurt too. Is it simply empathy? Or, is it something more subtle and inherent nature of human beings? Do you feel sorry for others?Have you ever actually wept because others are in danger? Have you ever wished if you could be of immense help to those people you don't even know? Thanks in advance for your response God bless you

The reason why we are empathetic towards other human beings is because we ourself is a human. We like to put ourselves in others situation and problems in time of distress. Mostly because we ourself want to be happy, I feel that we then would want others to feel the same way. But this deoends on how a person is too. A person who does not care will probably have a different view on this.

That is well deserved BR Lipstickstain. I might add more often than not, we in someway identify with the pain - may be because we have been through it ourselves, or someone close to us has been through it. Or we may fear such pain. That is the reason we look for rememdy, indirectly consoling ourselves. :)

Yes, I couldn't agree more. Our inclination to happiness is the reason for all those empathic feelings. We ourselves want to be and stay happy. We don't want to be distressed. This is the reason that solely motivates other similar feelings that accumulates into kindness. There are not many persons who don't care, but most of them are just afraid to face it or, probably too busy in finding excuses for not helping others. Thanks so much for your insightful response. Welcome to myLot God bless you

I'm a very compassionate type of person. If I think I'm going to able to help that person why not? I think that all of us has that kind of thing in us. We still need to develop. It's hard to humane than human.

Hello, Well it only feels hard if you don't feel a sincere urge for it and do it just as your duty or with some other expectations. But if you are truly compassionate person and don't expect anything in return your help will be worth something. Thanks so much for your response. God bless you

Yes, I do. I've recently seen a documentary about so called "elephant-man". It was about the young man, who lived in China. He suffered from neurofibromatosis, and as a result of that disorder there has a huge deformity been developed on his face. It's weight was over 20 kilos I think. Documentary showed, how doctors were going to remove that deformity. That poor man had to survive several operations, before his face was of normal size again. That film squeezed my heart really hard, I feel very sorry for people who have such serious health issues

Hello, I often wonder why people should suffer this way when there is plenty of things we can do about it. We aggressively seek international domination, wealth and improved technology but we care less about the hazards that we make in the process. Nuclear weapons and their testing, the unthinking industrialization, lack of social awareness should be the fundamental issues to address. These health anomalies are partly caused by the sudden change in global atmosphere. The life span of a normal human being is cut to almost half. There are poor people dying of malnutrition. It freaks me out how those people dominating the global scenario can shift their attention from this. It is mere wishful thinking to have a wonderful earth without actually setting it as an aim. Thanks for your contribution. God bless you

I think that if we hurt others that we are only hurting ourselves. There is only one earth. And the only beings are humans and animals. I dont see any reason for war. It makes me feel sad to see people on the street begging for money. Especially if they have children.

Hello, One of those great saints of India once mentioned that one should help poor only from one's surplus, otherwise that help may increase expectations which in turn can harm your moral. You help them with limited capacity but with sincere urge. This is all you need. Thanks for sharing your views. God bless you

When I go to school everyday, I always saw beggars soliciting, performing something just to earn money. I really feel sorry for them. When I see them, Im always thinking I was so lucky I came from a decent and a good family. Do they deserve that? life can be so unfair. :(

Well, there is meaning for everything. If God has chosen them to be that way, I hope He must have a concrete reason for that. Who will understand the plans He has. We shouldn't worry about life's apparent injustice. A helping hand is what we need to give them. We should consider it as our responsibility and not means to gain virtue. Help is effective when its sincere and candid. Thanks so much for this wonderful response. God bless you

Yes Yes Yes i am what some would call an easy target!! I can't help but feel for other people and think it is human nature to feel compation for others if human u know or just things you have seen on TV. without love and faith and compation the world will stop spinning for no1 will care enough to keep things moving. civilisation would stop.

Hello, I completely agree to that. I wonder what this world would be if there were no place for compassion and empathy in human heart. Are you an easy target? I will call that being a tough believer. Thanks so much for this wonderful contribution. God bless you

hi getbiswa, well sometimes i try to put myself in someone else's shoes and when we see things from there, it really feels such a pity for them, i feel sad for them, even though they might not be in any way related to me but still we have sometimes sympathize seeing others in distress, i try to picture myself how i would have felt if i was in their position, i have never actually wept for anyone but sometimes i have been gloomy and cared less for myself when i saw some in distress, although we might not be able to help them coz we don't know them or for other reasons but just wish it all gets over soon and they get back with their normal happy life, we all have our times, wish the dark days were over soon!.. anyways, have a nice day.

Dear voldrox, You should consider yourself lucky to have that kinda empathy in you. When you think about how distressful life other people have in this earth, you even forget your own sufferings for a few moments. This particular feeling initiates all help and fraternity. Even if you can't do any serious help, praying sincerely for them is a lot you can do. Thanks so much for your participation. God bless you

Hey my dear friend, I'm such a type of person who gets hurt and feel sorry to see the suffering and misfortune of others. That's why I always pray to Allah so that he can enable me to drive away the all kinds of misery of human race. I specially feel sorry for the poor and helpless and wish them good. With this end in view, I want to establish a departmental super store/shop where essentials goods will be sold at a price that will be much lower than the market. May Allah bless you.

Those who have had a hard life by reasons beyond their control, I feel sorry for. I mean the people despite their best efforts, have really gotten the short end of the draw of life. They try their hardest to get better and I salute them. However, they fall short in their efforts. I feel bad for them and wish them success, as if anything they deserve it. However, there are many people in a place where they brought every bit of misfortune upon themselves and they have done absolutely nothing to correct that problem. Then they expect other people to feel sorry for them. Those people make everyone else look bad. I do not feel sorry for those people, as they just want everyone's pity and do not want to do anything on their own.

Hello Matt, Well about the people you are talking about, they are actually a victim of self pity. They love to be unhappy as they think that would bring them lots of sympathy from others. But those who struggle to uplift their life are truly honorable. Thanks so much for your contribution. God bless you

I feel sorry for people who are trying to put other people down because it will make them feel better. I always feel sorry for these kind of people because they are just so full of insecurities in their lives that they wanted to play a role in the lives of others even if they are not wanted. I dont know how to help people like this but I feel sorry for them. I always thought that we can never do something about it because that's who they are and if changes are suppose to be made, it only depends on them.

Hello peks, I don't think that monetary help is the only thing they need. They don't need consolation or sympathy. What they need is a few wise words and lot of empathy. Even if you can do anything significant for these people, if you just feel their pain and be sorry for them and stay by their side, that would be of enough help. People often show kindness to people they are indifferent to. That can't be a sincere help. That is just pretension. You feel sorry for those who are in distress, and that is what makes your intentions pure. Thanks for your response God bless you

I am easily touched seeing others who are weak and helpless especially those who are mentally and financially incapable. I mean, If I only have the superpower to change things, I would. But all that I can do is to pray for them, for the better things to come.

Hello, I know how it feels. If your intention is earnest, you will be, one day blessed with such power to help them. Don't worry you will get the opportunity. God always listens to our intentions. He gives more importance to intentions than to our deeds. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful opinion God bless you
