Hello this morning I was moving on the streets of Hyderabad with my wife. I saw flower venders on the road side, the women here use flower in theie 'veni', we went to one gal who was selling flowers. She put some in my wife's hair too in the way women wear here. I must admit my wife looked great, flowers can change ones apperarence. Do you or your family members wear flowers in hair, or in your coat pocket? Bhuwan

Hi Professor, it’s a shame that we don’t have such good habit for female to wear fresh flower on hair in my society. Yeah, from your description, it shows that your mrs looked really great with the beautiful on her hair. Yeah, don’t look down on just a single flower. How miraculous it could change the appearance of a person totally once wearing it I think I should put one on my hair when passing by a florist vendor at the busy street next time. I’m keen to see the amazing expression of my husband after wearing it Happy posting

Hi Bhuwanji Yes of course, we do wear flowers in the hair and this is happening since so many years in the South Indian families.Actually it is our custom to offer flowers to a women whose husband is alive and she is called SUHAAGAN. From the old Suhaagan lady to the small girl, we put flowers in the hair either little or more and during marriages, you can notice all the ladies will be adoring flowers including the bride in their hairs.

Yes. Buwanji. It is the reflection of the Indian suhaagan, wearing glass bangles, sindhoor, alta, toe ring (bicchuvan), mangal sutra, flowers in the head. In north suhaagan ladies apply sindhoor in the head and in south she puts sindhoor in the fore head.

We don't usually do that here. The only time women here wears flowers in their hair is when there's local celebrations that would cater to tourist. I believe flowers not only change appearance of a person but also of a house or office.I would usually buy cut flowers during weekends and i keep them in the fridge at night and put them out to decorate my coffee table. I feel refreshed and relaxed when i see how beautiful a flower while sipping coffee in my mornings.

Hello Sir, You made me to laugh and remember about my college days. In South India it is a usual scene girls are wearing flowers in their hair. It may be like that it is also an essential part of the make-up. I did it same when I was studying especially in the month of Marc/April which is the season of Jasmine flowers. We had jasmine plants at home and in night we enjoyed the fragrance of jasmine flowers. We made our own chain with flowers in night and decorating in hair in the morning. At present I am in north and here the people are just opposite to south people. I have not seen anybody wearing flowers in hair in this part of the world.

hi professor its a shame women do not do that here in the US as you are right flowers can change one's appearance, this one pretty cashier at my favorite grocery store where we used to live always wore a flower in her hair. It was very attractive. She was originally from Hawaii and I guess they also have that custom. I think its really a pretty custom too. Almost all women myself included love flowers and wearing one in your hair I think I would like that.

Plumerias - We grew 27 varieties of these.
Where I am originally from, most people wore flowers in one form or another. In the area I lived while growing up, many people grew a wide variety of flowers. The only time it was worth going to deliver my newspapers in the morning was when I went by those houses that grew flowers because you could smell it in the air as you walked by. At our house we had 27 varieties of plumeria and 12 of bouganvilla, among other plants and trees (some very rare). I have not worn any flowers lately, do I do like to give them. The more uncommon, the better I like to give them.

I love the idea of wearing flowers in my everyday but that would make look ridiculous because the culture here is not like that. Yes, flowers really prettify girls, I must admit, and I love the way I look in front of the mirror when i wear a flower in my hair. Most flowers look good in the hair. Maybe when I get married, I'll put some small white flowers in my hair, or one big white flower. That'll do!

hie professor, flowers change the mood and enhanced the aura of the wearer. i am sure your wife is delighted when the florist put a flower in her hair and your expression tells her that you like what you see. it makes both your day. women do wear flowers here especially the indian ladies. not so the other races here. its popular in hawai and the tahiti islands. the maoris wear flowers in their hair. our here the men wear flowers in their coat pockets like a corsette. flowers are enchanting and indeed pleasing to look at. what is life without flowers to give to loved ones.

I feel it to be a great pleasure ,if I had met you in Hyderabad because I am a Hyderabadi. You find many flower vendors who sell these beautiful flowers on the road sides arranging flowers in a decent way and fashion in the form of garlands. You would have visited the main market near Mojamhjahi chourasta -which is the main flower center .It is really a spell bound place extending the natural fragrance of flowers. Yes as you say if you are shopping flowers with a lady vendor they love the customers from other places and also extend their love by sharing some extra flowers too. This is the specialty of Hyderabad. Yes,flowers decorated on the hairs of ladies add beauty to them. We always use these flowers mainly on the festival.

Flowers being worn in coats was something I used to see a lot of a child here in the UK. Here in Wales on St. David's Day (March 1st)- St. David is the patron saint of Wales - daffodils used to be worn on the lapels of coats, but these days I don't see it on March 1st. It's a shame really, but many people don't seem to bother now. _Derek

dear professor, there is not much ladies wearing fresh flowers on their hair nowadays. i guess the fad has changed it all. but i see artificially made flowers attached to headbands worn by the teens and sometimes, the much younger ones. fresh flowers are usually given in long stems. the ladies here receive arranged flowers as gifts from their loved ones, and bouquet of a dozen flowers or two, depending on the occasion and sometimes even without occasion. it is either given personally or through the mail. it is nice to have a flower on one's hair as it makes her looking fresh as well especially if she smiles a lot. but sad to say, as of the present, if one has a flower on her hair here in our country, (that is without any festival going on) people will stare like it is weird for a girl to have it on her hair. thank you for this discussion. ann

I fully agree with you that women look very beautiful with flowers in their hair. I being from the South are taught to wear the flowers everyday but nowadays girls do not like to wear flowers as they think that people would take them to be conservative. I though do not wear the flowers everyday but make it a point to wear it whenever I wear Indian outfits. My mom wears flowers everyday.
