Ar you as good as your word?

Ever since human beings could speak to one another, we have been making promises and keeping them or not keeping them. Those who keep their promises are regarded as people of integrity, while of those who don't it's said that they can't be taken seriously or even worst can't be trusted. Sometimes we forget how powerful our words are, and we use them lightly or unconsciously, creating expectations that are never fulfilled and leaving disappointment and distrust. Are you as good as your word?

We all have to live with our families, friends, neighbors, and countrymen, but first and foremost, we have to live with ourselves. This would be the most difficult part of a broken promise. The Japanese are famous for committing harikari if, or when, it became impossible to keep a promise. To give your life to keep your word, is the most precious gift that can be given!

I am a person with principles. One of the principles for me is to be honest and reliable and not to give empty promises. I usually try to fulfill the promises I gave, even if it's not beneficial for me. If I give my word, I keep it.

Hi Biomechanoid, Thank you for your comment, it's true that we are only as good as our word. Blessings.

Yes, I was taught that my words were sacred and once you promised someone something, it needs to be done. I have very little respect for people who lack integrity and have no word of honor.

I do my best to live up to my word. Sometimes it just can't be helped however. I have dealt with more people than I care to wher their promises mean little to nothing. I think that's at least part of why I at least try my best to live up to what I say. I guess I know what it's like to have people do nothing but break promise after promise (literally).

Hi Pose, Ahhh, difficult question. I make promises and I fulfill them, but there were a few times that I never did, either because they turned out to be difficult to fulfill, or that I didn't have the resources to do them - when this happens I take the time to explain. But I make sure I am as good as my word when I give promises to my kids, as I do not want to give them negative impression about me being a liar, or someone whose word they cannot trust.

Short answer, yes I am! I have been lied to and had promised broken against me plenty of time, so I know how horrible it feels! I would never put someone through the pain or doubt about me. If I make a promise, I will stick to it to the best of my ability, I would rather people trust me! Lee.

hi pose yes I am as I was raised by parents who were scrupously honest and always kept their word, or if they could not they would explain why and if it could be remedied they would do so.So I have also been honest and have always kept my word, and if a situation would arise that made it impossible I would explain what happened and if things changed so I could do what I promised I would do so at once. For one thing if it is impossible for me to keep a promise in the first place I will not make it at all. Honesty is always the best policy.

I sure try to be. This is why I will not make many promises, there are just to many things that can go wrong, and people tend to have selective memories. They only hard what they want to hear.

Hello Pose, I think I am good as my word. I try to keep my promises as much as possible, if ever I would break my promise there is a very good reason why I did that. Of course, I am not perfect, there are times that I can't keep up with what I promised and there would always be a good explanation for that. If I know, I can't do something, I won't promise doing it. I just can't break my promise. Reading and reading the topic again, I can say sometimes I am not as good as my word, I am better than my word. I am not a person who can say very flowery words, I am direct to the point. So, some times my words are plain and simple but my actions are better. Like saying how a friend is important to me, I can tell her as simple as you are important, but I can show it way better. Take care

Action speaks louder than words. For me, We do better if we have the actions on what we say. It cause disappointment if we just made promises and not keep it. We are only human that's why we did mistakes including promises which are not meant to be broken. But somehow, Its better to keep promises so we wont be judge by other people.

hello Pose, I hate liars,i hate cheaters, and i hate people who doesn't know how to keep their promise. So,i don't break a promise ,i always tried to fulfill every promise that i make. I can remember breaking a promise, due to some incident that can't be avoided, but, that's reasonable enough. I said sorry and make up from that broken promise. Every words spoken comes from our heart...we speaks from our heart. From the abundance of our hearts,we speak what we feel, and act who we are. (unless someone is a great pretender)

Giving my word to a person is something that I really do not do likely. I am careful with giving my word to people. The reason is this is that the less I give my word, then the less chance I have not keeping it. And believe me, I like to be as good as my word. When I give my word, it should mean something. Of course, if I promise for every little thing, then there is more chance to destroy a reputation that I am trying to believe. It just frustrates me that people say they are going to do something and do not keep that word. It makes me want to just scream out loud. If you are not intending to keep your word, why give it in the first place. I try to limit what I do to what I know I can handle without fail. Thus, if I do not raise people's expectations by giving my word too often, then I will be able to keep my word far more often than not.

yap! my word are my quality as human. The ability to keeping my word is what other people use to judge me weather I was trust worthy or not. Keeping our word is what we need in every part of our life including with your love one, family, relative, and especially in business. In every situation we need people to trust us.
