How Can I Get More People To Read My Articles?

United States

I'm trying to start writing a few articles when I have the time. I signed up for a wonderful website and I have only published three articles on there to date using my Pen Name, McKenna Cole. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas on how I might get more people to read my work. Any ideas on how to generate some traffic?

What website do you write with? If you are proud of a particular one you could always share it on here. But Twitter is a good way to generate traffic. You could post the links to your articles there...to be successful on Twitter you have to follow a lot of people, and they will usually follow you back. And whatever site you are using, be sure to read other peoples articles, and comment/rate (if you can) on them. And add lots of friends on the site so you have more people likely to "come across" your stuff.

I use booksie.com to publish my work. I have started tweeting and I think it is helping. I haven't been very active on reading others articles, etc on booksie so that is definitely something I will try out. Thanks!

Hi singlemommy! Nice to see you! Been missing you and wondering what you've been up! How's the kids? Hope everyone is good! I love the pen name! Very creative! As for topics for you to write, I don't think it should be hard for you! You have written some wonderful discussions here! Look back on some of them and get an idea what you like to write about! You happen to be a very intelligent and well spoken woman and I don't think you will have any trouble finding things to write about. Just write about things you know and feel comfortable talking about! And I really think that you will do a great job if you stick with things you know and like to talk about and just be yourself!

Hello! I know I haven't been on MyLot much lately. It seems I have been busy with so many other things that MyLot had to take a backseat for a bit. The kids are doing great, thanks for asking. Thank you for your words of encouragement and that is a wonderful idea about looking back on my old discussions, I'm definitely going to have to do that one for sure!

Are you on Twitter? My advice is to start a Twitter account, email all your friends, and get followers. Then use the account to publicize your articles. I've done this and found it was really helpful. Also, notify any email list you're on who might find your work interesting. You can even join new groups for the purpose of marketing yourself. Yahoo groups is a great service. You can find anyone who is interested in anything all over the world there. I'm sure you'll find a niche.

From one writer to another, congratulations on your publication. Networking is key and you need to make sure that you use many not just one, when you want others to know that you have published an article. You did a great job taking another step by not only tweeting about your article but also by letting others know here at mylot about your article. Join some writing groups as well, there are a lot of great ones out there. One that will help you out a lot is Wow-Women on writing. Check out the website, you will be amazed at the amount of information you will discover there. Join other writing sites to share your articles on. There are quite a few that will help you along the way like helium, associated content, hopefully, this will help you on your road to becoming a great published writer.

There are some ways to generate traffic including the classic social bookmarking sites. Have you tried to post your content there? Try digg and stumbleupon, they bring the most traffic comparing to other social bookmarking sites. Anyways what I love the most is clipmarks.com. Post your articles at clipmarks, and you'll get traffic. I swear! Good luck!

Eyeball catcher - A bright spot there under the discussion which the eyeball cannot miss.
In my personal experience two things can up the number of people reading and replying to your discussions-articles on MyLot. - 1. The picture draws more eyeballs to the discussion. That is because there is a bright spot there under the discussion which the eyeball cannot miss. - 2. The tag is a word that makes your discussion pop out at the searcher when any search is done on MyLot. It doesn't matter if the person doing the search is a friend or not, he or she will stumble on your discussion when he or she makes a search of a topic that interests him or her. - Here are my tags for my response to your discussion: - tags, MyLot, people, life, discussions, reading, replies, topics, issues, read me

I have studied how to get more traffic, but the problem is that the search engines keep changing the way they list sites, so getting more traffic is something everybody with a website and blog wants. What I have discovered is that you need a topic in which there is not too many other websites competing with, but not a topic that nobody would ever search for - a sort of balancing acts. Then you need to focus on keywords that you think people will use to search for your article, and use them in the title of the webpage, and then again in the heading of the article, and then a few times in the body (text) of the article. But don't use the keywords too many times as the search engines would ignore the page. It's a balancing act. Write about what you love, and let the traffic come when it comes. Patience is necessary on the Internet. _Derek

You need to network and let folks on other sites know you are writing these and invite them to read, perhaps leaving a link. Use twitter and FB and afew of those to post your most recent articles. Have your friends use the link to invite others as well. It is all in the networking. Good luck to you!
