Here in my country, poverty is the biggest problem. That's why i see many beggars. I dislike seeing beggars for it hurts my heart. How I wanted to help but I myself, is suffering from being poor. Although, i can eat three times a day but my income is not enough to sustain my needs. Worst thing, I see many children begging around the city. As a teacher, it makes me sad because these children have the right for education and have a good shelter. They are too young to look for money just for food. Sometimes, I blame the parents for being irresponsible. If they could not afford to give better life for their children then please practice family planning. How i wish that someday there will be no beggars wandering the country. How about in your country? Are there many beggars also? Do you regularly give them coins or food? Please, let me know.

Here in Texas we also have many , many poor people, although they are not allowed to beg on the streets. So many people from other countries have came over here taking away our jobs, making people to be in poverty. Also many of our jobs have been sent over seas to other countries so that there are not enough jobs for our people. We have about ten percent unemployment now. Many people are out of work and have had their houses taken over by the banks. Many people can find jobs that pay a small salary, but their incomes do not pay for their rents or costs of food.

Some people choose to work in other countries because there aren't a lot of opportunity to work in their own country. And, I cannot imagine working for a thousand miles away. I don't want to be apart from my family and friends. However, money is in need so they sacrifice. Poverty is all over the world.

Well here in my country the beggars are mostly organized crime syndicate, and most of them really do have a place to live and they make more in a day then I do in a week. Their group mainly consist of gypsies and they are very well organized by someone who collects a take and then shares the crumbles with them, but don't worry the crumbles are big enough. Plus they are really arrogant when they ask you for money and if you say you don't have even if it's true you hear them curse you or say mean things to you (does this sound like someone you would like to help to?). Personally I am against begging, and exploiting social welfare so you don't have to work like everybody else.

I heard about that too. An organized crime syndicate. They usually use children. And they took money from them not giving them even a small amount. When this syndicate discovered, I can see a lot of signs like "Stop Mendicancy". It means stop giving money to beggars. But sometimes, I feel pity so I give some coins but sometimes I feel discourage for some beggars look healthy and could work alone.

I am from India and here begging in public places is prohibited by the the government. It is responsibility of the government to look after the poor and home less people.Up to some extend government and other charitable trusts are providing proper shelter and foods to the beggars, but still some people are begging.Encourage begging is not a right thing. It is better to help them by giving food and dresses. Most of the beggars misuse the money for drinking smoking and other anti social activities.

In my country one can hardly see the locals in public begging. Even if they are beggars in the street they are for sure not locals but illegal immigrants who flock to my country looking of better living but end up begging when they can't find employments. Our government are looking after the citizens very well. The hardcore poor are given free houses and the school children are given free meals and monetary aid. To the locals, begging is a shame and that is the last thing they would do to be seen in public begging.

We also have these homeless people, but I think that this problem isn't here as huge as in your country. I mean, you can see some of those people in our capitol city, begging for money or food in crowded areas, but there are only several of them you would notice when driving through the city. There are special shelters created for them, they can stay the night there and even have a bowl of warm soup for lunch.

We do have homeless people. If we go for help from the state if we are homeless they will give us a food stamp card..it holds money for food, we go to the store and they subtract what we bought from the card, that is done every month.Even if they don't have a place to live they get help that way to eat. we have shelters here for them...

We have a problem with homeless people here too, not enough affordable housing or jobs forces people onto the streets. In our town we have two regular beggars, one guy plays guitar very well and I usually drop a coin or two if I can afford to. The other guy isn't very pleasant, however, and is frequently moved on by the police.

Hi Tess_quinain, I am in NJ, USA and yes there are homeless people everywhere, they live under our bridges, in the park, where ever they can make a shelter. What's real here is the fact that in most all cases there is a reason for their homelessness...and some really just don't want help...it's like they have "checked out" of life. I also am poor but am grateful to our Lord that I have a job and a home...not too long ago I was homeless myself till an Angel came and saved me...the Angel was a boyfriend who to this day remains my friend. People need to understand that most homeless people are homeless through no fault of their own. Now talking about children: I've heard and seen stories on TV about this...the government of that country where ever it is, should be held accountable...Children are our future...and they too really don't have a choice...it's really sad:-( Sometimes I go to the supermarket and it never fails, there is always someone asking for change...Thank God I keep change in my car and so I'll just reach in and pull out whatever is there and I give it to them gladly! Poor or not, I have way more than any of them could even wish for, so why not share...even a quarter to them is a treasure. ~G~

I so agree with your last line. It's absolutely heartwarming to see them delight even in just a coin.

We do have many beggars who ask for money---its sad that the poor ones would prefer sending their kids to beg for money rather than sending them to the schools.I would offer money only to those who seem needy like the ones who have lost their body parts as they cannot work in full time in any job so i always offer money for them and coming to those who try to betray or beg indisguise of God or being handicapped i ignore them completely.great day.

This seems like a good place for me to ask you a question, "Can I borrow a quarter?" No, seriously the economy's drop-off has affected many people across a broad spectrum of the classes. To be honest, I'm surprised that there aren't more of them than there already are. My heart also goes out to them. It's got to really be hard to have nothing and then be forced to give up your pride too. I try to help 'em out whenever I can (good Karma), because you never know if that could you out there one day.

I don't think there is a country out there that doesn't have beggars. There may be certain cities where it is outlawed and strictly enforced, where they are rounded up and sent elsewhere, but generally where there are large populations there will be poor people begging for money. I live near the coast in southern California and I run into people asking for money all the time. They always have some story about how they ended up where they are and how if I give them money it will help them. I'd say its usually a scam or a con, but I am sometimes willing to talk to them, depending on if I'm headed somewhere and on a limited time or not. Their problem usually isn't really a need for money, but a need for God to change their lives. Sometimes they are willing to listen, but usually only enough to try to get what they want. I hate to be skeptical, but I've been lied to enough to make it impossible to not be skeptical. I just try to let God help me decide who is really willing to be helped and who just wants free money. There are other countries out there with real poverty where they have no choice, I'd love to see what that is like for some perspective.
