Easter is less than two weeks away, have you started getting things for your child's Easter basket? This year we've decided to go easy on the candy and more heavy on the things like toys and trinkets that our children are more likely to enjoy. For my son's basket we've gotten a box of crayons, a Thomas the Tank engine and a Webkinz L'il Kinz bunny. For my daughter's we've also gotten a box of crayons and a Webkinz L'il Kinz Lamb as well as a spring pack of Littlest Pet Shop. We haven't gotten any candy yet, but we will get a little bit of candy to go in their baskets as well. What is your child going to find in their Easter basket on Easter morning?

I was thinking about the same thing - going easy on the candy this year! Also we've been thinking about going easy on the little gift basket period . . . and turning it around so that my daughter would do more of the giving. We got these fancy treat bags that have chicks (her favorite) on it and we plan to bake some little treats (something else my daughter loves to help with) for each of the family members. Otherwise, for my daughter, I'll probably fill plastic eggs with tiny toys so she can hunt for them on Easter morning. Believe me, she would just LOVE the plastic eggs . . . she has this big desire to lay eggs and hatch them . . . so I'm not kidding when I say she's just fine with getting eggs! I'll probably get my son a new baby toy. Oh - even though I said going easy on the candy - I already bought some malted chocolate "eggs" from Trader Joes (on my daughter's favorite egg theme).

I decided to go all out for the other children so that there would be plenty of eggs for the children to hunt. I also did request that the others bring stuffed eggs as well so that everyone can feel some sort of an ownership with the hunt. I'm looking very forward to it.

Myself and my sister-in-law are doing an Easter egg hunt for our playgroup this weekend. We stuffed over 200 eggs with goodies this afternoon. I certainly hope that we end up with a good turnout because we certainly don't need to keep all of these eggs for our four children.

That sounds like a lot of fun!! We just went on an egg hunt field trip with my daughter's class yesterday . . . but we only had to stuff 12 eggs. Everyone was supposed to bring a dozen stuffed eggs, so everyone can leave with a dozen Easter eggs. We filled them with stickers because we knew most folk were going to stuff them with oodles of candy already (and we were right!). 200 eggs, wow, that is a lot to stuff!!! Hope you all will have fun (I know the kids will!).

Nice to hear Doran, this shows your love for your kids, well we don't have easter, but many similar things those are specific for kids, some are for sons and some for daughters and some for both.. Thanks for sharing. Sorry for late response.. Welcome always. Cheers. Prof

That is neat that you all have celebrations that are specific for certain children. Thank you for the response.

My son only got a little bit of candy as I don't like him eating a lot of candy. He also got sidewalk chalk, bubbles, Alvin & The chipmunks the squeakeal movie (he wanted that so bad lol) and he got a workbook (he's 3 so he likes writing his numbers and letters) and he got a coloring book too.

That is the reason that my children didn't get a lot of candy in their Easter baskets as well. That is awesome to hear that your son likes writing his letters and numbers, I'm working with my son on them, but it is a long process.

That is a really neat idea to collect the trinkets throughout the year for their Easter egg hunt. I am going to have to try to keep this in mind for next year. Thank you for the great idea.

I have not even started shopping for Easter yet. My kids are not real big candy eaters and never have been. They still had Christmas candy from their stockings until I threw it away. So, I probably will not put a lot of candy in them. I will be looking for toys and activities for them. I think that they get much more enjoyment out of these things than the candy. I have looked at the big baskets that are full of toys and activities with a little bit of candy and have been thinking about getting those. I am just not exactly sure what I am going to do yet. Time to get busy I guess.

Last year I did the premade baskets because I waited until the last minute. The children liked them, but I myself wasn't thrilled with it. This year, I decided that I was going to make the baskets myself.

Hi Dorann, I think we will just bring our kids to the mall. there they can enjoy thegg e easter hunting. i am excited with the way you are preparing for easter friend. i hope i can do it too here. in our country most of the preparations for easter as it relates to egg hunting, bunnies etc. are the malls, subdivisions, and other groups. we are more on the church activities. some churches also introduce this fun activity with the kids.

You are right about the churches introducing fun activities for the children. The church that is at the end of the street where my mother lives does a community Easter egg hunt and we had fun with that a couple years ago. We may also try to go there on Holy Saturday when they do that event.

I haven't do anything. A lot of times I wait until the last minute to do so. I always try to reduce to put so many candy in it. I try to get the basket that has activities toys in it. And I'm not sure what I'm going to put in there this year. They bigger now, I don't think I'm going to put too many toys in it.

Last year I really did wait until the last minute to get Easter Baskets for my children, but I found that the selection was very, very limited so I knew that I didn't want to make the same mistake again this year.

I haven't started yet. Next week the children will be at their grandmother's, so I will be able to sneak some things into the house. Usually it's candy and one other thing (toy, game, stuffed animal)...

You are lucky that you are going to have the opportunity to sneak things into the house. I am never able to sneak things into the house and even less likely to have the opportunity to go shopping without my children.

I seem to have forgotton about easter and then all of a sudden these chocolate eggs start appearing on the supermarket shelves and we are all then reminded of how close Easter is once again! Well, I'm single and I don't have children but having said that I still like to treat myself to an egg once in a while. There's just so much choice when it comes to selecting a chocolate easter egg! I bought one a few days ago anyway and so I've had my fill! It sounds like you have a good plan yourself though for this upcoming period! Andrew

Despite the fact that I am married and that I do have children, there are also certain things that I like to treat myself to. I love Reesee's peanut butter eggs and I've helped myself to them a couple of times this season.

Thankfully, mine are not big candy eaters. They like skittle or nerds, so I buy some of that for them. I usually get them a new dvd, since we have seen the ones from Christmas a hundred times by now. I probably will get them a small lego binocle, they really like those. Last year they got guinea pigs, well they were thrilled for about a month, and you know who is taking care of them now. So no more pets.

DVDs are an awesome idea. I know that my children absolutely love movies and I know that is something that I can't go wrong with concerning my children.

My daughter's Easter present will be spent in Orlando for her performance. It was either letting her perform or getting the traditional going to park for the hunt. She not into the baskets. She is not sweet eater. She chose the park. I like giving them options so they do feel like they missed out. I personally would of like the hunt because it costs much less. Have a good holiday and I hope the children enjoy their goodies. They grow up so fast and then again so do I , lol.

My children are easily amused when it comes to Easter. If we can find an Easter Egg Hunt for them, they are happy. And, last year I found an Easter Train ride, and that really, really was a hit for them. They really had a blast.

I don't have kids of my own, so I get to be the crazy uncle that gives all the good stuff...I want my nephews to get all jacked up on sugar in any way that they can...because that is what good uncles do :)

You are the uncle that the nephews surely adore just as my little sister is the aunt that the children really do adore. You might one day have children of your own, and remember what you've done for the nephews because your siblings will return it to you two-fold.

I bought the traditional stuff, a couple of chocolate bunnies, some chocolate eggs, some jelly beans, etc. I figure that I only buy chocolate a few times a year so I let my daughter enjoy it.

If my daughter would eat the traditional stuff, then I would do that as well. However, my daughter doesn't like candy very much at all. She did, however, request that the Easter Bunny bring her some new crayons this year. I knew that I'm doing something right because I've already got the crayons for her basket.

I do wait until the last minute to get my stuff together, but this year I am not going to do very much candy at all. I will probably get the dvd Princess and the frog and a few other things for my 5 year old daughter, but my 19 month old son still not sure. He does love Thomas the train so I might get him something to do with that.

The thing that would be very neat with doing something with Thomas the train for your son is that it is not something that he would be likely to outgrow any time in the near future. I also like that you are thinking about getting a movie for your daughter, I've yet to see that movie, but my daughter said that it is really good.

It's many years since I had to think about getting sweets and chocolate for Easter but at my son's school we used to make up a little easter basket for the children. These usually held a small chocolate easter egg, a fluffy little easter chick and a pack of colouring pencils

Honestly I don't plan on doing too much w/ the baskets. I want to get my oldest a razor scooter as it's silly to buy one for Christmas and then let it sit for several months in the basement or shed unable to use KWIM? But I don't know if I'll have the money for that. Otherwise so far we bought some kites from the dollar store thus far. Usually my Aunt (Great Auntie whom also has no kids) will make up baskets for them and the in-laws will. So we'll probably dye eggs and have an egg hunt in our yard and then head off to the in-laws and just get stuff after the holiday perhaps... we'll just have to see how money is and right now it's pretty tight... I wish it wasn't.

First off, I have to admit that I was the crazy mother who did get not one, but both of my children a Razor scooter for Christmas. And, I also have to admit that they haven't had a lot of opportunity to use them yet, but they were thrilled to get them none the less.

hi doranmwin oh my I did not realize Easter is that close wow. Well I am now out of the loop for years. but I do remember getting the Easter baskets for my two little kids many years back. Then it was heavily into Chocolate Eggs and other candies, and real Easter Eggs too because at the time we had not yet began to realize that most kids got way too much sweet stuff and far too little things that were much better for them. But at least the real Easter Eggs were better for them than all the candy they usually got. Now we all have a better handle on good nutrition thank heaven for that. wow my only living child will be 51 this coming June, its hard to believe. we lost our daughter when she was eight, which took a long time for me to get over but now its just bittersweet, she would be fifty now.

I'm not nearly as old as your son, but I also do remember that when I was a child the Easter baskets that we got were plum full of candy. My daughter doesn't like chocolate at all and that is the main reason that my children don't find a lot of candy in their Easter baskets.
