Would you rather Learn from Experience or Take Someone's Word for it?

You know how when you were a kid and your mother tells you not to play with fire because you can get burned? Or how in college your friend tells you to avoid taking a certain subject as an elective because it's totally useless? How about when you like a guy or a girl and you hear from someone that supposedly that person's a brat, or a player, or totally dysfunctional? How would you react? Tell me about the time you listened to another person, or took the dive and found out for yourself, and was it worth it? Happy MyLotting! :D

it was definitely worth it... costly but the experience branded itself into my mind like a hot poker on a cow's behind.

I'm interested to know what you did this time.. What happened? What was it about?

It depends on the person advising me. If it's my folks or my siblings or best friends, I'll often take their word for it. But if it's an acquaintenance or a salesman or a store clerk...I'll go with my own research results and experience.

Yes, I believe so too if it were something coming from someone I knew well, I'd take their word for it.

I don´t take everyone´s word but there are some people that I respect and I listen to their opinion. But in my life I have tended to learn from my own experience in general or I have discused some subjects with other people to see other perspectives. Each problem has a different answer. And there are some that can only be decided by each one. Happy posting!
