Most of mylotters here probably love reading. And probably you constantly buy books. I realized that the last 3 or 4 years I always buy the used one. A lot of time when I browse around the book store, I find books that look interesting, just the price little too high. I started looking for the used one. And it depend on how really interesting these book are, I decide just to borrow it from the library. You know some books is only interesting when you read it the first time, and after that they are just collecting dust. Somehow I did save a lot of money, and still keep my reading going.

I take books from libraries too and take some from my friends too but mostly i love to by them and keep them with me. I don't know why. But eventually i just sell them due to lack of space and since it is a waste of money to keep buying lots of books every month. :)

I can relate! If a cheaper version is available, why not buy it? Its the wisest thing to do. Used books aren't that bad. They are ones that look as good as new. My only problem is that sometimes, its hard to look for used books especially if that book is newly released and is a bestseller so people are holding on to these kinds of books, and I'd to keep one myself. So I just buy a new one, even though it is a bit expensive. But I don't care about the price, if I'm really interested in the book.

i prefer used ones. it's not that expensive as long as i still can read it. any way i wont be reading it over and over. i don't do that, once i'm done with the whole thing, i just set it aside or keep it on the shelf for like forever.

I prefer new books, in hardcover if available. But I can't always afford to do that! I usually check out books from the library if I can't afford to buy them new and I only shop at used bookstores occausionally. I really just prefer a new book to a used one. Used books aren't always in good condition, and I like my books to be in good condition. Plus, neither the author nor the publisher gets any money from the sale of used books, and since I want books to be available to future generations, I want to feed the authors and the publishers.

earlier i used to spend a lot of money on buying books (you know the reading bug)...even i had many a times bought used books cause they were cheaper also one can find some out of print and rare books also.....but after i have got my computer and mobile i have started reading on them...i just download the book and read it on my mobile phone....so actually my expenditure on books has reduced a lot.....but still i prefer to buy used books(over new ones) ...i dont know the reason but its just like that...

Hi ibuemma, i think every book might be new one or old one has got its importance and value as per the content, subject matter and the way it is written. Still in Enginnering or medical studies, we prefer some books written by old authors of 18th or 19th century and what concepts they have explained then is copied by the new authors today. yeah, its a fact that once we've jumped to next level of our career, the old books are just collecting dust but for me the books that i've read is nearer to me like my family, so i take extreme care of them in terms of wear and tear. We can prepare a libraray for ourseleves, i think when a persoon is alone books are the best friends, and older friends are more nearer to hearts and life

Right, especially those text books, like every edition usually not exactly the same. Sometimes I noticed that the proffesor want the certain edition when they use those text book.

I get the same problems too. Especially when both of my kids start their own collection of books, I have no more room to add more.

I am not very fond of books and I buy then only once in a while. I have never bought any used book yet. If I feel to buy a book, usually I go for a new one. I don't spend too much to buy a binded version of the book. I go for a little cheaper paper bound version. I still have a few books, which I am yet to read. I like to spend time by chatting with friends rather than reading books.

I never buy expensive books. I belong to a book club and because I'm a member I get book for a reasonable amount. The Twilight series all four books I paid less then 30 dollars, and they were all hardcover books. That was a great deal. The same thing with the Harry Potter books and all too were hardcover. These were gifts for both my daughters. If I had went to a book store each book would have cost at least 20 dollars if not more.

I used to be the member of one book club too. It's just in the past, I have a lot that I only read once, and I haven't touch anymore. Sometimes buying it used even a lot cheaper than the book club. The store that I regularly visit also have the book swap. So I can exchange those books with the one that I haven't read.

I like reading books too, and I don't really mind if they're new or used, or even if I have borrowed them from a friend. A book is something you can read, no matter if it's new or old. Also new books are usually overpriced, so I prefer the second hand ones.

It depends on the condition of the books. I've had to buy many books at my school, and when Im on a budget, I usually try to buy as many used books in very good conditions. when they're sold out of them, I've got no choice but to go for the new ones. I usually only buy books mainly for my education, I don't buy any othe kind of books... say novels and such.

Personally, I like those used books which give me a worth-while impression. When I see those used books, I always feel approachable and believe those books must be welcomed by lots of people. And this imagination arouses my interest of reading.

I have a personal library of about 1000 books by now. Most of the books in my collection are really cheap books bought from local used bookstores. Just yesterday, I bought two books. One is about Japan and the other is a Japanese language book. For books that are just nice to have, I usually set my limit to about US$1. Anything above that and the book must be compelling enough for me to buy.

I like to read good books. but I don't think that the 'used books' will give the real reading satisfaction as you are doing with the new ones.

Why not? It's the same copy, it's just one is brand spanking new, the other one somebody else already read it.

if you could look at my last discussion (hehe) i have been buying a lot of used books,. there are a lot of thrift stores for books here and they are really cheap. but sometimes there are a lot of great books that cant be bought second hand bec they are really great titles and most owners wouldnt part with their copies. these copies im talking about must be bought new :)

The copy that I will buy new probably if it's signed by the author or if it's biography book, it has the signature of the person in that biography, it will make worth while. LOL

I buy used books. I just can't see spending the prices of books these days. I spend most of my time at the library checking out free books. Since I only read the majority of books once, I see no point in buying them all.

I'm not really a book-fan, but since I don't read many you might be thinking I could see the difference between books now and some time ago^^ I read like 2 books a year, and still I'd say the books don't get better. Books from before were straight to the point, the most books nowadays have some clues you gotta follow, or multiple points of view in every chapter. Give me books from before if you'd ask. But if you like reading, I'd say keep reading the newest ones :D

I'm talking about the same exact book , it's just the one you see in Barnes and Noble is new, but you might can find it in independent book store, used still in good condition but half price.
