Should I be worried about Moomin? When do you call the Vet for your pet?

Moomin has always been a real character cat, full of feline fun, mischief and charm. For the past couple of days, however, he has been a lot quieter. He has always slept on my bed but he's now sleeping downstairs on the sofa at night, he's not as bouncy as usual, not waiting at the door for me like he normally does. He seems lethargic, not quiet so cheeky as usual and I'm getting a bit worried that he's sick. The trouble is, I can't find anything physically wrong with him, he's still eating and drinking as normal and I can't find anywhere he might have hurt himself. I love that daft cat to pieces and I'm trying not to worry too much right now, but ow long should I wait before taking him to the Vet. What can I possibly say to the Vet, I can't pin this down to anything out of the ordinary, other than he seems almost depressed. He's been sleeping on the sofa virtually all day, he's only just woken up, stretched and ambled outside, he's had a few laps of water but he doesn't seem to be hungry at the moment. Should I be worried? What would you do?

How long have you had the cat? How old is he? Has he gotten worse or? Isn't there a site online that would answer your questions? Perhaps a Question and Answer board on some vet site or animal help site. I don't mean to alarm you but there are mean, insiduous people out there that posion animals and I would definitely being checking toxins and such. Keep us posted. Hope he is okay.

I've had Moomin for five years now, but I have no idea how old he actually is. The thought of someone being so callous as to poison him makes me sick, I really hope it isn't the case.

The only reason I mentioned it was the symptoms and the fact that we had that happen to us. People can be real jerks.

Last time I had a cat act like that, it was something serious. Yep, I'd take him to the vet!

I think to ease your mind you really should take Moomin to the vet and as soon as possible. Since his behavior seems so different from his usual self that could mean he does have something wrong even though he's eating and drinking. Good luck and keep us updated

I'll phone the Vet later today and see if I can get an appointment, he's just not his usual self at all, although he did sleep on my bed last night and was demanding fuss this morning. I will keep you posted hun, thanks

Take him to the vet. It could be the beginnings of a Urinary Tract Infection. It will be a lot cheaper to take him in now and get it taken care of than to wait too long and have to take him in on an emergency basis. I have had to take three of the four furry fiends to the vet with UTI's. I didn't catch them early and it cost about ten times more than it would have if I caught it early. You know your furry buddy better than anyone, and waiting and hoping just doesn't work when he isn't acting like he usually does. Call the vet today and get him in. Cats can get so sick so fast, so it is very smart to be concerned and take him in even if it is just a check up to reassure you that he is okay.

I think he is sick - better send him to the Vet to determine what is wrong with him, especially when you don't see any injury.

To have a peace of mind. Bring her to a Vet. Don't cloud your self with questions. The answer is in the Vets hand. .. I have four dogs in our house. And we always bring our dogs to the vet every time we feel worry. Theirs nothing wrong if its a false alarm. That always happen to us. Just treat is as a regular check up. Also always keep your pet vaccine on time.

You have a right to be worried, but cats can suddenly change their habbits. Its not uncommon for them to want to change where they sleep. Most vets won't even consider anything wrong unless they stop eating and drinking. But, a depressed pet isn't good eaither. Good luck.

I think I would keep an eye on his eating and drinking and maybe check his droppings to see if they look normal. I don't know how old he is ,ours is 14 nearly and no where near the bouncy little kitten cat he used to be. If he is an outdoor cat, it might be another tom has come to the area and he is giving it a a wide berth for a few days . It might be he just has a little bit of a cold and is sleeping it off.

Hmm another tom cat in his territory could be the cause, I'll have to keep an eye on that. Thanks
