There are some things that we plan ahead of time, and other things that we do "spur of the moment". If it is something that needs to be scheduled or certain things are required before doing it (like taking a trip, for example), then we will obviously plan it in advance. If we just wake up one Saturday to a beautiful day and feel like taking a hike and having a picnic lunch, on the other hand, then we might just decide to do that and get things ready and go that morning. It is fun to do both (planned trips and spur of the moment outings).

Thank you very much for the honor of best response. My cousin and his wife did have a wonderful life together, and I really liked the idea that they had of putting time aside for not only family activities but also "adult time" no matter how busy their lives were, because I think that made it a lot easier for them to stay close as a family.
I have always thought that doing things as a family was very important, and maybe that is because I had such good examples and role models when I was growing up. I think that if more people took time to do family activities, then there might not be as many broken homes and children getting into trouble and roaming the streets, but that might just be wishful thinking on my part.

.
I wish i can play that part of reducing broken homes. i want to make 'home sweet home' for my kids and family. You have very thoughtful thinking. I am not kidding...
